CHAPTER LLL

This chapter outlines the methodology used in the study including the research design, locale, respondents, sampling technique, instruments, procedures, and statistical treatment. The study will use a descriptive correlational research design to understand the relationship between online buying behavior and related factors. It will survey students from Southern Mindanao Institute of Technology about their online shopping habits and analyze the data using Pearson correlation coefficient.

METHODOLOGY

This chapter represents the overall methodology of the study, which

contains the research design, the research locale, research respondents,
sampling technique, research instruments, data gathering procedure and
statistical procedure.

Research Design
The researcher will use a descriptive correlational type of research, as
it tries to explain the relationship between two or more variables without
making any claims about cause and effects. It collects data to explain
variables of interest and figure how they relate (Adi Bhat, 2023). Quantitative
Descriptive research is a type of research whereby the variables are
measured using numerical terms ( Dr. Mbuva, 2023). A correlational research
design investigates relationships between variables without the researcher
controlling or manipulating any of them (Bhandari, 2021).

Research Locale
The Researchers wants to know the online buying behavior of students
at Senior High School Department of Southern Mindanao Institute of
Technology, Inc. located at National Highway, Barangay Buenaflor, Tacurong
City, Sultan Kudarat 9800.

Research Respondent
The respondent of this study are students that has 5 months and above
experience of buying through online shops. For most quantitative studies, 40
is an appropriate number of participants (Budiu and Moran, 2021).
Researchers conducted a room to room Pre-survey to identify who among the
366 population of Senior High School students’ does the online shopping; out
of 366 population of students, only 149 students does the online shopping.
The researchers will select 27% sample from 149 students to be the
respondents of this study.

Sampling Technique
The researchers will use Purposive sampling. In this sampling, units
are selected because they have characteristics that you need in your sample
(Nikolopoulou, 2022). This method can be used in many populations, but it is
more effective with a smaller sample size and a more homogeneous
population (Singh and Jadhav, 2023) therefore, researchers will select a
respondent with the same characteristics from the 366 population of Senior
High School students in Southern Mindanao Institute of Technology
Incorporated.

Data Gathering Instrument

The researchers will develop survey-questionnaire which is close-
ended to achieve the main objective of the study. In this questionnaire, the
researcher will use a checklist that comprised of 17 questions and has five
response choices (Extremely important, Very important, Some what
important, Not very important, Not important at all). These options served as
the quantification of the participant’s agreement or disagreement on each
question item. The questionnaire was developed and patterned from the
previous study entitled “An analysis of the Factors Affecting Online
Purchasing Behavior of Consumers” by Adnan (2014).
Data Gathering Procedure
The initial procedure of the researchers is to send a letter of
permission to the office of Basic Education Principal, Officer in Charge,
Academic Coordinator of Basic Education - Senior High School Department
and to the Statistician.
Moreover, the data for this research will be collected by distributing the
survey-questionnaire to the respondents, and the raw data will be gathered
and scrutinize through the specified statistical method.

Statistical Treatment
In analysis of the data, the researcher will employ the statistical tool -
Pearson Correlation Coefficient®. This tool yields the maximum degree of
linear relationship that can be obtained between two or more independent
variables and a single dependent variable..
Pearson Correlation Coefficient is the most common way of measuring
a linear correlation. It is a number between -1 and 1 that measures the
strength and direction of the relationship of two variables. This treatment is
also an inferential statistic, meaning that it can be used to test statistical
hypothesis. Specifically, it can test whether there is significant relationship
between two variables (Shaun Turney,2022).
