Problema 7 y 8

Escherichia coli are grown aerobically in batch culture with glucose to produce recombinant porcine growth hormone. Cell and substrate concentrations are measured over time, with the maximum growth rate (μmax) calculated from this data. The observed biomass yield from substrate (Y'XS) is determined and whether it remains constant is examined. Similarly, Atropa belladonna hairy roots are grown in batch culture. Biomass and sugar concentrations are measured periodically and used to analyze the maximum growth rate, specific sugar uptake rate, and observed biomass yield from sugar (Y'XS) and whether it is constant.

Growth parameters for recombinant E.

coli
Escherichia coli is being used for production of recombinant porcine growth hormone. The bacteria are
grown aerobically in batch culture with glucose as growth-limiting substrate. Cell and substrate
concentrations are measured as a function of culture time; the results are listed below.

Growth parameters for hairy roots

Hairy roots are produced by genetic transformation of plants using Agrobacterium rhizogenes. The following
biomass and sugar concentrations were obtained during batch culture of Atropa belladonna hairy roots in a
bubble-column fermenter.
