ADVANCED DIPLOMA in


Step 1
With the Ellipse Tool (U) create a circle in the centre of the
document using red (#d51a37) for the colour.

Step 2
With the Magic Wand Tool (W) select the area of the circle and then
add a new layer on top of the red layer.

Step 3
Fill the new layer with white using the Paint Bucket Tool (G).

Step 4
Go to Filter>Noise>Add Noise. Make sure you have black and white
for the background and foreground colours. Use 150% for the
Amount, Gaussian for the Distribution and select Monochromatic.
Step 5
With the marquee selection still active go to Filter>Blur>Radial Blur. Use 40
for the Amount, Spin for the Blur Method and Best for the Quality.

Step 6
Go to Image>Adjustment>Levels. Change the Input Levels using 103 for the
black, 1.00 for the grey and 192 for the white inputs.

Step 7
Change the Blend Mode to Darken at 100% Opacity.

Step 8
Repeat the same thing now to create the grey circle of the shield.

Step 9
Repeat the same steps to create the 3 other circles and the star.
Step 10
Add Layer Styles to all the main Circles
Step 11
Place a Metal Texture Graphic on the Top Layer, apply a Circle Mask and set
the Blend Mode to Soft Light

Step 12
Place a second Metal Texture Graphic on the Top Layer and using the Brush
Tool (B) paint in some highlights in the centre.
Change the Blend Mode to Colour Burn at 30%.

Step 13
Add a new layer and using the Gradient Tool (G) with the Angle Style,
fill the layer with a gradient using black and white. *custom gradient
Change the Blend Mode to Overlay at 80%.

Step 14
Add a new layer on top of the others and then create a marquee selection of
the circle area. Then go to Filter>Render>Clouds. Make sure you have black
and white for the background and foreground colours. Change the Blend
Mode to Soft Light at 50% Opacity.
Step 1
Open your image, crop if necessary and adjust levels as necessary to
add more contrast.

Step 2
Now we need to get rid of the background. Take the Magic Wand
Tool (W) and click anywhere on the background to select it. Then go
to Select > Inverse in order to make the woman selected.

Step 3
Create a Mask from your selection (Third Icon in the bottom of your
Layers Panel)

Step 4
Add a new layer underneath your Mask Layer and fill it with your
background colour.
Step 5
Place your Mask Image (in our case it was a forest, it can be
whatever you wish) above your Woman Mask Layer

Step 6
While still on your Mask Image (forest) layer, Cntrl and Click on the
Mask (Black & White) thumbnail icon in the Layer below (Woman
Layer)

This will select the outline of your Woman, you will see a Marque
Selection appear

Still on the Top layer, create a mask from this.

Step 7
By clicking the link icon on your top layer you can move the Forest
Image around to find the best positioning
Step 8
Drag your Woman Layer above the Forest layer

Step 9
Make Image adjustments if necessary such as Darken with your
Levels, adjust the Hue & Saturation with the Colorize box enabled
and then Desaturate the Layer (These adjustments will depend on
your chosen image, so let your eye be your guide)

Step 10
Set the blend Mode to Screen

Step 11
These are the basic steps, I encourage you to experiment with
painting out areas of your masks and adjusting Blend Modes and
more layers as you see fit.
Step 1
Open your image and make any adjustments to add more contrast,
eg. Levels

Step 2
Click the Channels Tab beside Layers, select the Layer with most
contrast as you see fit, in our case Green

Step 3
Right Click and Select Duplicate Channel, set Document as New and
name appropriately, click Ok and this will open a new document in
another Tab
Step 4
On your new image Go up to the Filter menu in the Menu Bar at the
top of the screen, choose Noise, and then choose Median:

Also apply a Gaussian Blur – Under Filter - Blur

Step 6
Covert Image to Grayscale and save a Displacement.psd
Step 7
Open your texture image (whatever you wish) copy and paste it into
a new layer above your original woman image, position as
appropriate.

Step 8
Click the Eye Icon to turn the visibility of your Texture Layer off.

Click on your Woman layer and using your selection tools, eg.
Magnetic Lasso Tool, select the area of the image below you would
like to apply the effect too, in our case it will be the woman's face
and body.

Step 9
With your selection still enabled, click back onto your Texture layer
and create a Layer Mask. Set the Blend Mode to Overlay.
Step 10
Select the Texture Layer and Unlink it, click the Link Icon between it
and the Mask

Step 11
Go up to the Filter menu, choose Distort, and then choose Displace:

Select the graphic you saved as your displacement earlier

Step 12
Your Settings here will vary depending on your images, please
experiment.
