8. Solve the following homogeneous system of equations


i) x + 3y + 2z = 0, 2x − y + 3z = 0, 3x − 5y + 4z = 0, x + 17y + 4z = 0.
ii) x + y − 3z + 2w = 0, 2x − y + 2z − 3w = 0, 3x − 2y + z − 4w = 0, −4x + y − 3z + w = 0.

9. Determine a such that the system of equations 2x + y + 2z = 0, x + y + 3z = 0, 4x + 3y + az = 0


has i) trivial and ii) non-trivial solutions.

10. Solve the following non-homogeneous system of equations


i) x + 2y − z = 3, 3x − y + 2z = 1, 2x − 2y + 3z = 2, x − y + z = −1.
ii) 2x1 + x2 − 3x3 = 2, −x1 + 2x2 + 3x3 + x4 = 3, x1 + 2x2 − x4 = −2, 4x2 + 3x3 = 5
11. For what values of λ, the equations x + y + z = 1, x + 2y + 4z = λ, x + 4y + 10z = λ2 have a
solution and solve them in each case.

12. If a+b+c ̸= 0, show that the system of equation −2x1 +x2 +x3 = a, x1 −2x2 +x3 = b, x1 +x2 −2x3 = c
has no solution. If a + b + c = 0, then it has infinitely many solutions.

13. Find the values of a and b for which the equations x + ay + z = 3, x + 2y + 2z = b, x + 5y + 3z = 9


are consistent. When will these equations have a unique solution.

14. For what values of a and b the system x1 + 2x2 + x3 = 6, x1 + 4x2 + 3x3 = 10, x1 + 4x2 + ax3 = b
has i) no solution ii) unique solution and iii) infinite many solutions.

15. Solve the system of linear equations 2x1 + x2 + x3 = 10, 3x1 + 2x2 + 3x3 = 18, x1 + 4x2 + 9x3 = 16
by using Gauss-elimination method.
