Module 2 CITIZENSHIP TRAINING

ACTIVITY II.

1. Enumerate and discuss the Five (5) derivative words stipulated from the preamble of
1987 Philippines constitution.

Truth- It is the foundation for a fair and just society. In court, we require witnesses to swear to
tell ‘the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth’, because only that way can justice be
delivered. Truth telling is essential for authentic communication to occur within society, and as a
member of society, I owe and am owed truthful interactions, not only because it demonstrate a
basic level of respect for and toward those around me, but also because, if truth were not spoken,
communication would not be possible. Truth matters, both to us as individuals and society as a
whole. As individuals, being truthful means that we can grow and mature, learning from our
mistakes. For society, truthfulness makes social bond, and lying and dishonesty break them.
Justice- justice is the concept of fairness. Social justice is fairness as it manifests in society. That
includes fairness in healthcare, employment, housing, and more. In a socially-just society, human
rights are respected and discrimination is not allowed. In law justice is defined as the quality of
being fair. This means that all people are treated equally under the law. It includes ensuring that
everyone has their due process rights and that civil liberties and human rights laws protect them.
Love- love and society discusses the meaning and importance of love for contemporary society.
Love is not only an emotion that occurs in our intimate relationships, it is a special emotion that
allows us to related to each other in a lasting fashion, to create out of our individual pasts a
shared past, which enables us to protect a shared future. Society cannot stay away from chaos
with different kinds of people living together, and love often prevent this. With the love of
humanity and their country, people leave their differences to work together to maintain order and
peace in society.
Freedom- freedom is one of the most important things in the world. It makes us human and it is
something we should all value as human beings. Freedom allows us the opportunity to pursue
happiness while ensuring our rights are protected at all times, this includes things like religious
freedom and speech rights as well as many others that have been granted under law throughout
history. Freedom is important because it leads to enhanced expressions of creativity and original
thought, increased productivity, and overall high quality of life.
Peace- peace is a way of living together so that all members of society can accomplish their
human rights. It is as an essential element ton realization of all human rights. Peace is a product
of human rights: the more society promotes, protects, and fulfils the human rights of its people,
the greater its chances for curbing violence and resolving conflicts peacefully.

2. What is self-awareness?
Self-awareness is the ability to recognize one’s independence from other; nevertheless, in
order to be self0aware, one must be able to identify and categorize one’s own emotions, ideas,
and behaviors. A person who self-aware can evaluate their emotional, mental, and physical well-
being and recognize that various aspects of their internal personality enable them to engage with
the outside world.
To simply define self-awareness, is having a clear understanding of your personality
including your strengths, weaknesses, thoughts, beliefs, motivation, and emotion.

According to Goleman a psychotherapist, the most important emotional competence is

self-awareness knowing one's internal states, preferences, resources, and intuitions. Another
psychotherapist states that is “bringing to the conscious mind our understanding of the
compulsion that pushes us around”. However, according to Marilyn vs. Savant, self-awareness
simply calls it the "art of waking up" or realizing what you really are and why you do the things
you do, in the way you do them.

3. Reflect yourself the different classification of Good Citizenship Values Based on the 1987
Philippine Constitution.
As a naturally born Filipino citizen, I have responsibilities and duties to fulfill. Being a
good citizen is one of my responsibilities as Filipino. In the preamble of the 1987 Philippine
Constitution is where the “The Good Citizenship values” is based on.

One of the Good Citizenship Values is pagkamaka-diyos or spirituality. As a Filipino we

are known for being religious. During Sunday I always spend my time going to church with my
family, it is the time and place where I could show my respect and gratitude to the almighty god
who created us all. Offering my time and devotion to our God gives me a sense of fulfillment
and indescribable joy that I can only experience in the presence of God at the church. Faith or
paniniwala is one that I have always carried, I have put all my faith in the hands of God as he is
our savior and creator. I know that everything that has happened to me has a meaning and I know
that God is preparing me something in the future that is why even when I sometimes fail or
having problems, I always think that God wants me to overcome this challenges and have faith
in him, because after this difficulty I will be rewarded. If we respect God, we must also respect
others as we are all created by him our savior. Not only that we respect other human being but
also to all the life that is created on earth. Whenever I see my friends, family, and peers I always
show them my respect through speaking with sincere voice and using ‘po’ and ‘opo’ to those
who are much older than me. I also respect other people’s opinion about a certain topic because
we all have rights to express our thought and emotions. Order (pagsunod sa alituntunin) and
work (paggawa ng marangal) , we must act and follow rules in our community to live peacefully
with others. For me, I throw my garbage in trashcans or I sometimes put it in my pocket, I also
pick up trash that I found while walking along the streets to keep my community clean because I
know through helping my community I experience happiness and sense of fulfillment though
accomplishing duties as a person who live in that community. Concern for Family and Future
Generation (pagkalinga), even though I am still a student, helping other people and protecting
them with my own small ways are important because when I protect and care about others, I am
protecting the future generations that will have a significant impact in our community.

The second Good Citizenship Values is pagkamatao. As a Filipino, showing my love to

others and respecting them is not only important to our community but also to our it gives
respect for our country. In order to achieve peace and justice, I contribute through speaking the
truth to others and giving my fellow Filipino people the respect, they deserve. Just like others, I
also don’t interfere with other people’s action such as stating their opinion or doing what they
want because we all have a freedom and we must know how to respect it.

The third Good Citizenship Values is pagkamaka-bayan (love of country). As a Filipino,

who resides and is born in the Philippines it is only natural that I must show my love and respect
my country. There are different people in our community, however, we are all driven to act as
one because of we all have a thing in common and that is the love of our country. Following
rules and showing patriotism is one of the few things I do in order to show my love for our
country. Being fair to others and showing respect towards them is also one way. Loving,
respecting, and valuing others are all my simple ways to express my gratitude and responsibility
in my country.

The fourth Good Citizenship Values is pagkamaka-kalikasan (love of environment). Not

only Filipino but all of us must care for our environment. Everything that surrounds us do not
belong to us but it is given to us by our God. So, we must protect and take care of our
environment if we want to preserved and use it for further generations. It is also our
responsibility as the current generation to give what has God has given to us to the future
generation. It may be the land, air, and seas, we have the responsibility and duty to protect and
maintain the environments beauty.

4. Explain the importance of human rights to every Filipino Citizen.

All people in the world not only Filipino, from birth to dead, are entitled to some
basic liberties and privileges known as Human Rights. No matter where you are, what you
believe, or how you choose to spend your life, you will always have this privilege that is entitled
to you as a human being. Human rights are legally guaranteed by human rights law, protecting
individuals and groups against actions that interfere with fundamental freedoms and human
dignity. They encompass what are known as civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights.
Human rights are principally concerned with the relationship between the individual and the
state. Governmental obligations with regard to human rights broadly fall under the principles of
respect, protect and fulfill. Human rights are very important for individuals and they can exercise
their rights in the court also including right to freedom, right to education and right to freedom of
speech. Human rights protect all people regardless of race, nationality, gender, religion, and
political leaning, among others. They should be respected without prejudice.

5. List down the seven intermediate values related to socialization and define each.

1. Pakikisama- is a typical Filipino trait that means "getting along with others." It entails a
genuine intrinsic appreciation of togetherness of working together to reach a good purpose.
2. Reciprocity or Utang na loob- is a Filipino cultural trait that may mean debt of gratitude and
reciprocity. We keep to our heart the good deeds we receive from someone, especially when we
need help. It is as if we say we are indebted to that person for life.
3. Looseness and Security in the Family- it is overserved in the Filipino culture, were family
members are very close to each other and always interact. Almost every household in the
Filipino community has a complete member of the family which includes the mother, fathers,
son, daughter, and grandparents living in the same house. Through the closeness of the family
they can ensure that their family is guided and protected.
4. Respect for Elders- it is a common trait of Filipino to show respect to their elders especially
to their grandparents. Younger Filipino use ‘po’ and ‘opo’ whenever they communicate to elders
to show their respect. Some Filipino also lower their head and tilt it to elders or some relatives
that are older than them to show respect and good manners, this practice is called pagmamano.
5. Personalism- is a high value placed on sensitivity and regard for others, respect and concern,
comprehension, assistance, and consideration for others' limitations.

of challenge that only those who have reached a reasonable level of maturity can understand.
