Special electronics module Basic Operation

Special electronics module

The ProAir is equipped with a special electronics module (SE). According to the device
configuration set via the software, the software evaluates the status messages and
executes the tasks requested by the special electronics.

The special electronics module has the following functions in the ProAir:

− powering up the whole device,

− cold start after the period of time specified by the application has elapsed (reboot),
− switching on the optical indicators,
− switch the device on/off via SOP key or SOP switch (function depends on the
application),
− query the proximity sensor,
− monitoring the UPS,
− connecting the customer connector panel.

By pressing the main switch the ProAir is supplied with voltage. The special electronics
module is then in standby mode.

01750044376 A ProAir - Operating Manual 23

Switching off the ProAir Basic Operation

Switching off the ProAir

Switch off the ProAir by pushing the ON/OFF button of the special electronics module
(ProAir returns to standby mode).

In normal operation the device may only be switched off by pushing the ON/OFF
button of the special electronics module. Only switch the device off via the main
switch in emergencies (see chapter "Introduction", section "General power
interrupt"), since this could corrupt the software.

• Open the customer panel (see section "Opening / closing the device").

Press the ON/OFF button at the special

electronics module (1).

The procedure for switching off the ProAir depends on a parameter setting in the
configuration file of the operating system software.

The parameter setting defines whether the ProAir shuts down directly after the
ON/OFF button has been pressed or after a defined period (after a few seconds).

24 ProAir - Operating Manual 01750044376 A

Basic Operation Switching off the ProAir

Immediate switch off

The ProAir is switched off immediately when the ON/OFF button is pressed.

Then the red LED lights up.

Defined switch-off
In this case, pressing the ON/OFF button simply lets the ProAir know that you want to
switch it off.

After the ON/OFF button has been pressed, the red and green LEDs light up together.
After several seconds the device switches off.

Transactions that may be in process, e.g. dispensing a ticket to a customer, are

completed properly. Only after completing the transaction is the device switched off.

After switch-off only the red LED is on.

If the ProAir does not switch off once the transaction is completed, you should
check the setting in the configuration file.

Please contact your system administrator.

Uninterruptible Power Supply Unit (UPS) Operation of the UPS

Operation of the UPS

• Open the customer panel (see chapter "Basic Operation", section "Opening / closing
the device").

• Activate the product-specific software (see chapter "Basic Operation", section "Call up
the Product-Specific Software").

• Pull out the equipment carriage (see chapter "Basic Operation", section "Opening /
closing the device").

Power-up
Press the ON / Test switch (top switch).

The UPS issues an acoustic signal and carries

out a self-test, while the connected devices are
immediately supplied with power.

(See the section "Self-Test").

Operation of the UPS Uninterruptible Power Supply Unit (UPS)

Power-down
Press the OFF switch (bottom switch) to switch
the output power of the UPS off.

Under certain circumstances it may be useful to

use the ON / test switch and the OFF switch of
the UPS as main switches to power up the
devices connected.

The UPS is switched on (the internal processor is running) when the power cable
is connected and mains power is available.
Even after the UPS has been switched off, it maintains the battery charge and
reacts to commands from the PC interface port and the accessories board.

94 ProAir - Operating Manual 01750044376 A

Uninterruptible Power Supply Unit (UPS) Operation of the UPS

Self-test

The self-test can be used to test the UPS operation and the battery charge level.

As soon as the UPS is connected to a normal safety socket, a self-test is carried out when
the ON / test switch is pressed.

The UPS issues a beep, and the Online-LED flashes.

As a default, the UPS carries out a self-test whenever it is switched on, and every
14 days.

During the self-test the UPS supplies the connected devices with battery power
for a short time (the battery LED shines).

If the UPS passes the self-test, it switches back to line power. The battery LED
goes off, and the online LED shines constantly.

If the UPS does not pass the self-test, it switches to line power immediately, and
the LED indicating that the battery needs replacing, lights up (see section
"Malfunctions").
This does not affect the connected devices.

Monitoring the UPS

The UPS can be monitored - in dependence of the configuration - by the user software in
conjunction with the special electronics. The connection of the UPS to the special
electronics is realized via the customer connector panel.

The status messages 'On-Battery' and 'Replace Battery' are displayed on the special
electronics with two yellow LEDs corresponding to the display on the UPS.

Environmentally friendly product design and development

This product has been designed according to our corporate standard "Environmentally
friendly product design and development".
This means that crucial criteria such as long life, choice of material and its labeling,
emissions, packaging, ease of disassembly and recyclability have been taken into
account. This saves resources and relieves the strain on the environment.

Saving energy
Please switch on devices that need not be constantly running only when they are actually
needed. They should also be turned off when they are not needed for longer periods of
time.

Disposing of used consumables

Please dispose of printer consumables and batteries according to the applicable
regulations of your country.
