Week 3

The document discusses Rene Descartes' view of mind-body dualism, which proposes that the mind and body are distinct substances. Descartes believed this provided a rational basis for the soul's immortality and also supported his mechanistic view of physics by removing the mind from the physical realm. The dualism suggests that the real essence of a person is their mind rather than their physical body.

PHILOSOPHY

LEARN THIS :
The quote of Rene Descartes that states , “ The real essence of man is different from his body.
“ is the best for me. He highlighted the mind-body dualism. For Descartes the payoff is twofold.
The first is religious in nature in that it provides a rational basis for a hope in the soul’s
immortality [because Descartes presumes that the mind and soul are more or less the same
thing]. The second is more scientifically oriented, for the complete absence of mentality from the
nature of physical things is central to making way for Descartes’ version of the new, mechanistic
physics.

DISCOVER :
A soul is part of the individual which partakes of divinity and often is considered to
survive the death of the body. The soul is the part of you that would go from one life to
the next, that would go into that bug after your body died. It's the part that would carry
everything you learned in each incarnation.
GENCHEMISTRY
1.By putting an adequate amount of powder juice , the solution taste balanced in
sweetness and acidity .
2. The powder juice taste too strong for my liking and with an intense aroma if I
put too much powder in it , meanwhile , if I put too little, it taste flat , plain and
flavorless.
3. CONCENTRATION -the ratio of solute in a solution to either solvent or total
solution.
SOLUTE-
The substance which dissolves in a medium (solvent)

SOLVENT - The substance in which the solute is dissolved

SOLUTION - Solution is a homogenous mixture of two or more substances

4. The Powder Juice represents the solute while the water represents the solvent .

5. To estimate the amount of solute in each solution , I used different measuring spoon
to measure the quantities depending on the procedure given .

6. Yes, it is expressed the same way for it can be easily distinguish and
characterized. Also , it can simply differ from one another.
7. A solution's depends on the amount of solute dissolved in a solvent at a particular
temperature. A solution with only a small amount of dissolved solute, such as the powdered
juice dissolved in water well, is said to have a low concentration. As more solute is dissolved,
the concentration gets higher. Thus, the taste of the solution varies to the amount of the solute
dissolved in the solvent.

Many chemical reactions are carried out in solutions, and solutions are also closely related
to our everyday lives. The air we breathe, the liquids we drink, and the fluids in our body are all
solutions. Furthermore, concentration of solution is very important in our everyday lives. It
can be used in cleaning products , cooking foods, making drinks and beverages, and etc.
CONTEMPORARY ARTS

TRY THIS!
1. Mural Art -Nowadays, community murals are a mode of expression for
artists in every graphic style imaginable: abstract, photorealistic, surrealist,
expressionist and graffiti, to name just a few. Most recently, murals have
become community centrepieces that bring people together to celebrate the
heritage and history of their home.
2. Many art enthusiasts understand how art genres affect one another, how styles transform
over time, artists develop new approaches, and cultural changes drive popularity and
demand. War, politics, technology are all well-known influences which play a part in art
development.
3. Art gives meaning to our lives and helps us understand our world. It is an essential part
of our culture because it allows us to have a deeper understanding of our emotions; it increases
our self-awareness, and also allows us to be open to new ideas and experiences.

Filipinos should make an effort to conserve the tradition

of 'Batok' or Kalinga tattoo for the sake of preserving the
historical culture of the Philippines. The value and importance
of 'Batok' art are in the meaning of the symbols used in the
tattoo. Every symbol in 'Batok' has a meaning that represents
the culture and tradition of our ancestors.
As Filipinos, we can help preserve the 'Batok' tattoo by
continually promoting awareness of its existence, also help
the tribe in their livelihood. If I were given a chance to get a
tattoo , I am willing to be tattoed by Apo Whand -od. It is an
honor and privilege to be tattooed by the legendary artisit and
the last ‘mababatok’ in the Philippines.

REFLECT :
1. In a broader sense, form in art means the whole of a piece's visible
elements and the way those elements are united. In this context, form allows
us to mentally capture the work and understand it. form in art helps artists
to produce an illusion of 3D and depth on a two-dimensional surface

REINFORCMENT AND ENRICHMENT
Name of the Artist : Harry Mark Gonzales
Address: Iloilo
Short description of the Artist : he was actively participated in some
prestigious art contests and exhibitions using terra cotta materials in sculpture
that later he master the materials. After that Harry was invited in the 2nd
Biannual International Open Terra Cotta Festival and Competition in Siliman
University Dumaguete City.He already participated in some prestigious national
and international art exhibitions such as the Manila Art, Art in The Park,Art Fair
and some collective art exhibit in reputable galleries and group exhibit in Artists
Space in Ayala Museum last 2012 .He exhibited in The Philippine Artrek
Singapore in Forest Rain Gallery last 2014-2016. Lately he was one of the
awardee in TUKLAS program of Eskinita Art gallery.
Discussion and Description of his/her work :
Artist Mark Harry Gonzales is known for his cold-cast marble sculptures with forms that calls to mind
fantastical sea creatures fused with familiar imagery. he often incorporates dynamic biomorphic elements;
elongated, wave-like forms that give the impression that his sculptures are organic entities in the process of
growth but caught mid-metamorphosis, suspended in a moment between what it was and what it will become.
The artist’s fascination with undulating forms sprang up from his contemplations about the sea and its dual
nature of nourisher and devourer.

While the artist operates in a clear meta-narrative, as far as each individual piece is concerned, there is no
single linear narrative. Rather, like the ebb and flow of the sea that creates foam and surf that briefly appears
then quickly dissipates as it merges once again with the waters, the images in Gonzales’s works fuse with one
another, not only sharing in their physical form but their meanings intertwine and form a lattice from which
the story can be read like in a tapestry. The images seem to bob and sink on the pictorial plane, like the
proverbial message in a bottle floating out to sea.

TEST II.
1. Philippines welcome the birth of Contemporary art when the world opened up the idea of
postmodernism in the late 1900’s. Many Filipino artists and architects became adherents of the
modernist style.

2. By expressing the cultural richness of the archipelago in all its diversity, Filipino artists have
helped to shape a sense of national identity. Many Malay cultural traditions have survived
despite centuries of foreign rule. Muslims and upland tribal groups maintain distinct traditions in
music, dance, and sculpture.

3. The art of the Philippines refers to the works of art that have developed and accumulated in
the Philippines from the beginning of civilization in the country up to the present era.

ANALYSIS !
1. The cell need to increase in size during G1 phase to cater

REFLECT:
Cell cycle checkpoints are surveillance mechanisms that monitor the order, integrity, and
fidelity of the major events of the cell cycle. These include growth to the appropriate cell
size, the replication and integrity of the chromosomes, and their accurate segregation at mitosis.
What would happen to the cell if the checkpoints failed?
If a checkpoint fails or if a cell suffers physical damage to chromosomes during cell
division, or if it suffers a debilitating somatic mutation in a prior S phase, it may
selfdestruct in response to a consequent biochemical anomaly.
