Introduction
We are excited to introduce you to the Beginning Reading Exercises using Fuller
Technique! It is an output of the Project CHEER (Comprehensive Help in Enhancing
Efficiency in Reading through Locally-Developed Interactive Beginning Reading
Exercises. This Learning Resource (LR) for Beginning Reading is composed of print
(black and white and colored) and non- print Learning Resources (digitized file using
LUMI application). This LR is intended to equip Grade 1 learners with a strong
foundation in reading using the innovative and effective beginning reading exercises.
The Fuller Technique recognizes that every child is unique and progresses at his or
her own pace. It is designed to cater to various learning styles and abilities, ensuring
that all children can succeed in their reading journey. It includes exercises that will
engage and promote your children’s learning style, whether they are visual, aural, or
kinesthetic learners.
Inside this LR, you will find a carefully structured series of exercises and activities
that gradually build your child's reading skills. The following is the sequence of the
exercises:
Phonics Practice: Your child will learn to decode words by mastering letter sounds
and phonetic rules. We use engaging and interactive activities to make phonics fun
and memorable. Word families are added to consonants and consonant blends (initial
and final) as a strategy in word recognition activities. The word families are grouped
according to the medial vowel like hen, mat, lip, mop, put, etc.).
Sight Word Mastery: Recognizing common sight words is essential for fluent reading.
We provide lists of high-frequency words and engaging games to help your child
memorize them effortlessly.
Fluency Development: The beginning reading teachers will expose the learners to
repeated reading, paired reading, seatmate reading in reading new words, phrases,
and sentences for mastery/fluency.
Vocabulary Development: All the words introduced in the lessons are accompanied
with pictures to make decoding of words more meaningful.
Reading Practice: Throughout the workbook, your child will find short stories and
passages that are age-appropriate and designed to build confidence in reading.
The Beginning Reading Exercises is your child's key to unlocking the world of
reading. We believe that every child can become a confident and enthusiastic reader,
and we are here to support you on this journey.
