Method Statement
MS - MasterTop 1205 - 10/2013

THIS METHOD STATEMENT COVERS THE PREPARATION & APPLICATION OF

MasterTop 1205, A SOLVENT-FREE, 100% VOLUME SOLIDS EPOXY FLOOR COATING

METHOD STATEMENT: MasterTop 1205

1. SUBSTRATE PREPARATION:
1.1. Prior to starting preparation, close the area to be prepared to all traffic and other trades.
1.2. The preferred methods of substrate preparation are; captive blasting using fine shot or
surface grinding. Acid etching is not recommended.
1.4. If any part of the floor is contaminated by oil, grease or fat, the contamination shall be
removed before other forms of preparation are undertaken.
1.5. Prepare the concrete substrate using the chosen method, removing all weak or friable
laitance and concrete. The finished surface should have the texture of fine to medium grade
sandpaper.
1.6. Surface defects such as shrinkage cracks, blow holes, minor honeycombing, minor damage
to joint arrises etc. shall be filled with MasterTop 2200 a thixotropic two component epoxy
surface filler.
1.7. When floor preparation is complete, vacuum the area to remove all dust and debris.

2. APPLICATION:
2.1. MasterTop 1205 is applied by short hair roller or brush.

2.2. MasterTop 1205 shall be applied to a dry substrate.

2.3. Do not apply when relative humidity is 90% or more, or when the dew point is reached.

2.4. Do not apply when the temperature of the substrate is less than 10°C.

3. FIRST COAT:
3.1. Providing the substrate is mechanically prepared and is good quality dense concrete no
prime coat is required.
3.2. Pour the reactor into the base component and mix for 2 minutes, using a slow speed drill
(300-400 RPM) fitted with a paint mixing head or a spiral mixer.
3.3. Apply the first coat to the surface at minimum 0.2litre/m² depending on surface porosity and
absorption, and allow to become tack-free before over coating. Allow a minimum of 6 hours
at 20°C before overcoating with subsequent coats.
3.4. Inspect the surface for defects such as blow holes, pin holes etc. and fill as required, using
MasterTop 2200.

MS - MasterTop 1205 - 10/2013

4. SECOND COAT:
4.1. Mix as 3.2, and apply at an equivalent coverage rate, ensuring total coverage of the
substrate. Apply the second coat at right angles to the first coat. Further coats can be
applied if required.
4.2. Allow to cure for 24 hours before allowing access to traffic. Full chemical cure at 72-96
hours.

5. SLIP RESISTANT FINISH:

5.1. For the base coat apply MasterTop 1205 at a minimum 0.25litre/m².
5.2. While the MasterTop 1205 is still wet, broadcast aggregate MasterTop SR over the surface
to saturation. Spiked shoes will be required for the application. Allow to cure for 12-24 hours
depending on temperature.
5.3. Remove excess aggregate by vacuum or sweeping with a stiff brush. Recovered aggregate
may be reused, if clean and dry
5.4. Mix and apply MasterTop 1205 as in section 3 at a minimum rate of 0.25 litre/m².
5.5. Allow to cure for 24 hours before allowing access to traffic. Full chemical cure at 96 hours.

Note: Any masking tape used during the application process should be removed before the
resin hardens.
