NSTP Accomplishment Report

The seminar discussed solid waste management and the responsibilities of local government units under the Code of Local Government. Proper waste management is important for protecting public health, safety, and the environment. As populations and waste production increase, we must reduce, reuse, and recycle to prevent environmental damage. Young people have a stake in sustainable waste management practices as they will live longer with the consequences. Improper waste disposal negatively impacts the environment, so primary waste storage and disposal techniques must be developed at the local level.

National Service Training Program

Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS)

The National Service Training Program, also referred to by the acronym

NSTP, is a civic administration and defense preparedness program for Filipino
tertiary education students. It is instituted by the Government of the Philippines on
January 23, 2002 by virtue of Republic Act 9163, otherwise known as the "National
Service Training Program (NSTP) Act of 2001". And one of the coverage of the
program is the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS). This program component
is designed to provide students with activities contributory to the general welfare and
betterment of life of the members of the community especially those developed to
improve social welfare services. As I selected CWTS for the first and second
semester, I learned a lot from this course. The activities and seminars really change
my point of view. At first, I thought CWTS is only about voluntary works, like
cleaning in the streets but that is not at all. The class sessions and seminars taught me
how practical experiences and theoretical knowledge would come into handy in the
real life. But it doesn’t stop there, because there is this program that was currently
introduced to us which were tutorials on some things that serve us our practice in
preparation for the future use. With the things mentioned even by slowly, I improved
myself physically, mentally, spiritually and socially. This program is really helpful to
the students and youth. It does not only help us develop ourselves for the betterment
of life but it also teaches us to help the society in small ways. It increases our
awareness to what is really happening and prepares us from whatever we may face as
we go outside the walls of the school so that if the time comes we will know what
should be done and are already responsible enough in making our own decisions.

II. WEEKLY NARRATIVE REPORT

WEEK 1

January 24, 2023

At our first meeting in NSTP 2, CWTS, our professor introduced to us what the
subject is all about, what the topics covered in the subject are, and why it is important. We were
able to get a preview and an overview of our professor, Ms. Jecella Denise R. Rigodon. After the
introduction of the subject, I discovered that this is not just an ordinary subject because it can
provide some benefits to many people if we give it some focus, and this is somewhat related to
community service. Everything we must complete, including our necessary prerequisites, in
order to pass the subject. She told us that until the last week of the semester, in addition to our
regularly scheduled cleaning sessions at NSTP, we would also be required to create recycled
bottles to donate, go to seminars, and complete our tree-planting duty. She also recommended us
to attend her sessions and wear our NSTP shirts while engaging in other activities in order to
finish the topic, as NSTP only requires our presence to pass the program.

and where we were assigned to clean the seats and pick up plastics and other rubbish to be
thrown in the proper disposal.
III. SEMINAR – TOPIC

SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT

March 4, 2023

Code of Local Government of 1991 (RA 7160)

The LGU must advance public health, safety, and the right to a healthy diet.
While protecting their occupants’ convenience and comfort.
Waste management should be a vital part of daily living in order to preserve the
environment and maintain our health. The amount of waste produced is limitless, and the
population is expanding constantly. We either burn the trash or simply discard it all in a place
with no suitable disposal choices, without thinking about any potential harmful effects. All trash
from homes, businesses, and factories needs to be managed properly; otherwise, it could pose
risks to the environment and human health. All trash from homes, businesses, and factories needs
to be managed properly; otherwise, it could pose risks to the environment and human health. By
managing garbage effectively, we can prevent environmental damage and ensure the safety and
wellbeing of people and all other living things. The production of waste will decline as more
people choose to recycle and reuse materials.
Reduce implies to cut back on the garbage we produce.
Reuse something means using it more than once.
Recycle refers to reusing a product as opposed to tossing it away. “Young people have a greater
stake in the more distant future because they will have to live longer with the consequences of
current environmental decisions than will their elders.”
It is evident that improper waste management methods have a detrimental effect on the
ecology and sustainable development of the study area. The SWM must therefore be developed
at the primary level. Waste storage and primary disposal are the two fundamental techniques for
handling rubbish. The outcome has been significant challenges for the research industry. As a
result, it is concluded that procedures are needed in the study area for waste separation from the
home level, proper storage, improved garbage collection systems, and sustainable recovery and
disposal approaches.
DRUG EDUCATION, PREVENTION AND CONTROL
March 25, 2023

I learned important information regarding the serious problems associated with drug
usage and the steps taken to solve them. The program gave a thorough overview of drug
addiction’s many manifestations and effects on people, families, and communities. Hearing from
recovering addicts who discussed their experiences with addiction and the path to recovery was
one of the most memorable experiences for me. Their candid and frank accounts served as a
reminder of the terrible consequences that drugs may have on a person’s life. Seeing how they
had conquered their addiction and improved their lives was motivational. And it gave me hope
that anyone who may be battling with addiction might heal.

Additionally, the lecture offered insightful information on the many drug types, their
impacts on the body and mind, and the signs and symptoms of drug use. I learned how using
drugs may affect one’s relationships, mental health, and physical health, and that addiction can
be a chronic, relapsing disease that calls for ongoing care and therapy. The importance of the
community, educators, and parents in avoiding drug use was also a significant topic that was
covered. It was emphasized that drug prevention involves more than merely telling people “No
to Drugs”; it also entails developing trusting relationships, encouraging healthy lifestyle choices,
and offering information and tools to individuals who may be at risk of using drugs.

The program also covered the significance of lessening the stigma associated with
mental illness and addiction. It was emphasized that addiction is a complex condition that calls
for empathy, comprehension, and assistance rather than being a sign of moral failing. The
conference gave me a renewed commitment to raising awareness and promoting prevention
initiatives in my community, as well as a tangible sense of thankfulness for the support and
resources that are available for people who may be battling with addiction. It was a worthwhile
experience that has given me the skills and knowledge I need to improve the lives of people who
may be at danger of drug usage.
2023 WOMEN’S MONTH CELEBRATION
March 25, 2023

International Women’s Day is observed on March 8 each year to recognize the courage of
women. The bulk of the country has commemorated the day as a national holiday. Women from
all cultural and racial backgrounds gather together, overcoming all boundaries, to remember their
long struggle for justice, equality, and growth. Women have the option to speak up on this day in
support of getting the same opportunities as men in any career they choose. International
Women’s Day aims to support women in realizing their worth and inspiring them to realize their
full potential.
Since then, the Women’s Month Celebration in the Philippines has served as a forum for
talking about both old and contemporary topics relating to women’s empowerment, gender
equality, and women’s achievements. On this day, festivities and activities are organized all over
the world to commemorate the women who have made a major contribution both inside and
outside of their communities as well as to draw attention to the ongoing fight for gender equality.
On Women’s Day, many people make commitments to support women’s rights, promote gender
equality, and take action to create a more fair and just society for all. The entire world unites to
celebrate their fortitude in overcoming all challenges and achieving such important strides in
almost every facet of life.
In addition, it is crucial to emphasize how much effort needs to be done in order to fully
repair the gap that has existed for a very long period.
Celebrating women is a method to express gratitude for all the women in one’s life, both
personally and professionally. The goal of International Women’s Day is to draw attention to
ongoing issues with women’s rights and gender equality. It is an opportunity for people to band
together and take concrete steps toward creating a society with greater equality and fairness for
all. Additionally, it serves as a reminder to acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments
made by women in a number of fields, such as politics, business, education, healthcare, and
many others.
IV. OUTREACH ACTIVITY

TREE PLANTING ACTIVITY

Day 1 – April 8, 2023
Our instructor let us know that we will be doing a tree-planting exercise at our final class
before the holy week. For life, we require the oxygen that trees release. In light of the fact that
May to June is the greatest time for calamansi tree cultivation, I decided to plant one. A tropical
crop called calamansi does well in hot climates.
I immediately started looking for a location and getting the soil ready for my calamansi .

V. TOOLS AND PLANTS

INTRODUCTION

Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over
80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. The roots of trees hold the soil in place as it fights
erosion that causes landslide. It also absorbs and store rainwater that helps reduce runoff and
sediment deposit after the storms. It also helps recharge ground water supply, prevents transport
of chemicals into streams as well as prevents flooding.
WEEK 1
April 15, 2023
Calamansi cultivation is best suited to soil with a minimum depth of 1.2m and a somewhat
excellent water-holding capacity. As of this week, I haven’t noticed any progress, so I can only
pray that it won’t die any sooner.
WEEK 2
April 15, 2023

After a further week of anticipation. I've started observing the plant's development.
Watering. The calamsi tree, like many other plants that like warmth and humidity, is a thirsty
tree. To keep the soil's moisture content constant without making it soggy, soak it with warm
water once or twice a week. Keep an eye out for waterlogging, which can result in root rot.
WEEK 3
April 29, 2023
I’m glad it didn’t die and is still growing because I can already see the development.
Calamanci trees do grow more swiftly than most other types of trees, but it does take some time
before they begin to give fruit. Despite the fact that I’m too busy with schoolwork to regularly
check on it, it’s great to know that planting a calamanci is simpler than growing any other type of
tree.
WEEK 4

May 6, 2023

Between 85 and 95 degrees is the optimal temperature range for calamanci

development. Since calamanci need a lot of water and do best in sandy soils, a sunny, tropical
climate is optimal for their growth and survival.
