Marketing and Merchandising

Master data comprises the most important information on sites, suppliers, and
customers. It also contains the information on the articles and article categorization.
This information is retrieved from the system when business transactions are
processed.

When master data is consistently maintained, the time required to process

transactions can be drastically reduced, as the system automatically recommeds the
relevant fields required in the business transactions.

This section covers about master data management for merchandising using SAP
S/4HANA Retail for merchandise management.

Master Data Management

Use
Master data is used to map operational processes in all areas of merchandising. The
assortment of articles, the business partners, and the structure of the retail company
with its branches, warehouses, stores, and other sales channels are all mapped in
master data. The relationship between the company and its suppliers is also
recorded in the master data, as is the basic data for identifying articles including
pricing and time dependencies.

Master data is stored in master records that the system retrieves when a user
performs specific tasks. Master data management significantly reduces the time
required to perform tasks because the system is able to propose data automatically.
The solutions available for managing master data for merchandising offer hierarchies
for managing products and distinct hierarchies and groupings for monitoring
locations and channels. The tools support you in updating, copying, and integrating
large volumes of master data into retail activities.

Integration
Master data management for merchandising covers the following areas.

Product Data Management

The article master contains data on all the individual articles that a company
purchases, sells or produces. It is the central source for retrieving article-specific
data. This information is stored in individual article master records. An article master
record includes information such as the unit of measure and the description of the
article.

information is automatically sent from the supplier to the retail site.

Archiving Merchandise Management Data

Data archiving can be used to remove mass data from your productive database so
that the data can be used for analysis at a later date. Before beginning to archive
data, it is a good idea to check if you want to avoid creating data, aggregate data or
simply delete data. Archiving is used for data that cannot be avoided and that cannot
simply be deleted.
