MidTerm Exam FALL 2023

EEE 207 / EEE 308 / ECE 308: Electronic Circuits II
Total Marks: 50 Duration: 1 Hr 20 Min
Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering BRACU

• Answer All (3) Questions.

• Figure in bracket [] next to each question indicates marks for that question.
• This Question Paper must be returned with the Answer Script.

Question No. 1 [18]

(a) Draw and label the gain vs frequency plot of a capacitor coupled amplifier circuit. Show
the three frequency bands (low-frequency, high-frequency and the mid-band) in your
plot. Explain why the gain, while remains constant in the midband, falls off at both ends
of the plot. [6]
(b) Draw the low-frequency small signal equivalent circuit for the following common emitter
(CE) amplifier. [4]
(c) What limits the frequency response of the amplifier at low frequency? Briefly explain
how the amplifier gain decreases at low frequency due to the coupling capacitor CC1. [4]
(d) Suggest and draw the circuit configuration for wide band amplifier. [4]

Question No. 3 [18]
Consider the following difference amplifier circuit (Circuit 4).
(a) Calculate the differential gain and the differential input resistance for the following
difference amplifier. [4]
(b) What are the major drawbacks of this amplifier? [2]
(c) Modify the circuit to construct an instrumentation amplifier. Find the gain expression of
the instrumentation amplifier. [6]
(d) Design the instrumentation amplifier circuit and choose appropriate values for the
resistors so that the overall gain can be varied from 10 to 1000. Do not change the
resistor values of the original difference amplifier. Use a 10 K pot for the design. [6]
