American Version

Bird Cushion

Materials;
♥ Approx 300g DK yarn. Here DROPS Lima 100% wool has been used in the following colours;
3 x 50g balls of Off White 1 x 50g ball of Ice Blue
3 x 50g balls of Cerise 1 x 50g ball of Beige Mix
1 x 50g ball of Powder Pink 1 x 50g ball of Rust Mix
1 x 50g ball of Pistachio
♥ 4mm hook ♥ 3 x 3.5cm buttons
♥ Small triangle of orange felt for the beak ♥ 41cm x 41cm cushion pad
♥ Small (5mm) bead for the eye ♥ Darning needle

Gauge;
16 stitches and 18 rows = 10cm x 10cm square using single crochet and 4mm hook.

Finished cushion measures 41cm x 41cm (16” x 16”)

slst = slip stitch st(s) = stitch(es)
ch = chain rpt = repeat
sc = single crochet frm = from

ch60 plus ch1 for turning.
Work all stitches in sc (plus 1 turning ch at the end of each row) for the whole cushion front,
following the grid below and starting at '1'.

1 square = 1sc

If you would like to make the cushion bigger, simply use a larger hook and yarn or add stitches and
rows equally to the top, bottom or sides to your required size.

The front and back of the cushion should look something like this;

It's very important not to pull too tightly or leave the yarn too loose across the back of the image or
your cushion will not lie flat. Fasten off yarn and weave in ends.

Back of the cushion (worked in two parts);


For the first part;
ch60 plus ch1 for turning.

Row 1;
1sc in 2nd ch frm hook, 1sc in each ch across til end, turn.

Row 2 – 50;
ch1, 1sc in each sc across til end, turn.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

For the second part;


ch60 plus ch1 for turning.

Row 1;
1sc in 2nd ch frm hook, 1sc in each ch across til end, turn.

Row 2 – 40;
ch1, 1sc in each sc across til end, turn.

Row 41;
ch1, 1sc in each of next 12 sc, * ch4, skip 4 sc, 1sc in each of next 12 sc * rpt frm * til end, turn (3
buttonholes made).

Row 42-43;
ch1, 1sc in each stitch across til end, turn.

Row 44;
Work slst in each sc across til end.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Assembly
Sew on a small triangle of felt for the birds beak and the bead for the eye. Next place all three
pieces of the cushion on top of each other, right sides facing, making sure the piece with the
buttonholes is the centre layer. Square up the pieces and sew around the outside using a small
running stitch. Turn inside out and sew on the buttons under where the buttonholes lie. Point out
your corners with the wrong end of your crochet hook and put in your cushion pad.

Ta-dah, you have made your very own Bird Cushion!
