CONDITIONAL SENTENCES
1. Conditional sentences: Type 1
- Structure: If + S + Vs/es , S + will/can/may… + V(inf) - Example: If he runs, he will get there in time. The cat will scratch you if you pull her tail. Exercise 1: Put the verbs in brackets into the correct tenses. 1. David will leave for Ren tomorrow if the weather .......is................... (be) fine. 2. What will you do if you ....doesn’t go........................ (not / go) away for the weekend? 3. The game ......starts.................................... (start) if you put a coin in the slot. 4. 2. Conditional sentences: Type 2
- Structure: If + S + Ved, S + would/could/… + V(inf) - Example: If I had a map, I would lend it to you. If I were you, I’d plant some trees around the house. Exercise 2: Put the verbs in brackets into the correct tenses. 1. If I knew his address, I (write).....would write........ to him. 2. If the sun (be).....was........... shining now, we would go to the beach 3. If you (paint)…painted………….the walls white, the room would be much brighter. 4. 3. Conditional sentences: Type 3
- Structure: If + S + had + PII, S + would/could/… + have + PII - Example: If I had studied harder, I would have passed the exam. If I had saved enough money, I could have bought a new car.
