5 Example p2

The document discusses prestressed concrete and provides examples of prestressed beams. It describes different loading cases for cantilevers and unsymmetric sections. It then gives an example problem of designing the critical section of a prestressed beam under various loads and stresses. Diagrams show the distribution of stresses along the beam length at transfer and working stages. Finally, it provides a multiple choice question about designing critical sections of a prestressed concrete frame.

Figure 1 shows the plan and cross section of a prestressed concrete shed
with overall dimensions of 12 24 meters. The slab is prestressed in y-direction

and supported on two beams and two lines of columns as shown in the figure .
The 8.0 meter cantilever slab has a varying thickness from 180 to 400 mm.
The slab carries a superimposed dead load (floor cover) of 2.0 kN/m2and live
load of 1.0 kN/m2. It is required to :
1- Calculate the bending moment at the transfer and working stages .
2- Estimate the prestressing force and eccentricity of the cables at the
critical sections .
3- Check the stresses at both the transfer and working stages and draw the
stress distribution at the critical sections .
4- Draw the stress distribution along the top and bottom fibers of the
beam at both the transfer and working stages .
5- Calculate the area of the prestressing steel .( jacking stress = 0.75% Fpu)

Use Fcui= 30 Mpa Fcu = 40 Mpa

prestressing steel of Fpu = 1860 Mpa
Minimum concrete cover to c.g. of prestressing steel = 90 mm.

cross - section ,It is required to :-
1 Design the critecal sections.
2 Draw the stress distribution along the frame for both
Transfere and Working Stages .
3 Draw the detailes of rft. in elevation and cross sections.
