Introduction of the Course:


Students are introduced to the management of an organization’s workforce through the design and
implementation of effective human resources policies and procedures. This course provides an
introduction to the various functions of human resource management, including compensation and
benefits, staffing, recruitment and selection, labor relations, training and development, health and safety,
planning and the influence of government legislation and employment equity.

Course Scope:
No organization can succeed without harnessing the talents and abilities of its employees. Companies
that successfully attract, retain and support the best employees gain a strategic advantage over their
competitors through increased performance and reduced turnover costs. Decisions about when and whom
to hire, how much to pay, what training to offer, and how to evaluate employees thus have important
consequences for an organization’s ability to reach its objectives. As the strategic value of human capital
increases, effective human resource management becomes even more vital to companies success.

Course objectives:
1. To develop a critical understanding of different HRM practices and how they relate to an organization’s
overall business strategy. For students interested in HR carriers, this course satisfies the HRM course
requirements as per market demand.
2. To gain hands on experience with HR activities through performance based simulations.
3. To learn to analyze current events from the perspective of an HR professional.
4. To strengthen your research, analysis and communication skills.

Learning outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:
1. Explain the various functions of human resource management and identify the relationship to the
workplace from the perspective of both employee and employer.
2. Apply the principles of human resource management to the industry in the areas of hiring, compensation
and benefits, and government legislation.
3. Identify social issues relating to human resource management such as systematic discrimination and
develop approaches to resolving these problems in the workplace through various methods learned in
class.
4. Identify and predict human resource management trends in the industry and develop proactive solutions
and techniques of adaptation to changing industry demand.
Expectations for success:
1. Always finished readings before each class.
2. Actively participate in class discussion, group work, and exercises.
3. Complete and submit all graded assignments before the deadlines.
4. Stay engaged and informed! Think deeply about the course materials.

Course Procedure/Teaching method:


Course activities will include lectures and discussions of examples, group discussion, homework,
assignments, class tests, a midterm and a comprehensive final examination (Full Syllabus). Homework
and assignments will be given during the classes. Students are advised to submit assignments and
homework in tome. Submission of every assignments and homework is mandatory. In case of late
submission, marks will be deducted from the allotted quota for continuous assessment. There will be
taken four class tests. Students will be expected to take all class tests at the schedule date and time. No
make-up class test will be taken after the scheduled time. Class tests can be either announced or
unannounced (surprised test).
