There are two processes for installing RecurDyn as General or RecurDyn Server Client.
They are decided by license type. To see more each chapter’s roadmap in the above flow
chart, refer to Roadmap for using this manual section of Chapter1.

o OpenGL version will be detected as 1.1.0 when using the remote desktop
connection.
• RecurDyn only supports 100% size of apps and text on the display.
• Please provide the following items for a computer that will act as the
FunctionBay License Server:
o Host Name
o Physical (or MAC) Address
The physical address can be obtained as follows.
▪ From the Start button of Windows, select:
- All Programs
- Accessories
- Command Prompt
▪ Type the command: ipconfig /all
▪ Look for the block of data associated with the Ethernet adapter
used with your Local Area Connection.

INSTALLATION PROCESS
1. Send a Purchase Order to your RecurDyn sales representative.
6. Start RecurDyn and start up ProcessNet to install the IDE (Integrated Development
Environment).

model. For additional help, contact your local FunctionBay representative.

Note: Before uninstalling the existing license server, a backup can be made of the
current license file which resides in the license server’s installation directory (usually
“C:\Program Files\FunctionBay, Inc\FunctionBay License Server”). Then during
installation of the new license server, the user can easily locate the license file.

2. The Check Pre-Requirements dialog is shown up, the user can figure out what
programs are required to install RecurDyn.
If some requirements are not checked, press Install button to setup the programs.
Then the installation processes will be executed one by one.

Note2: Problem might occur when installing .NET Framework 3.5 with exe file. It might
not be installed in Windows 10. To install the .NET Framework 3.5, follow the below
processes. Internet connection is necessary in this process.
2. Check .NET Framework 3.5 (include .NET 2.0 and 3.0), select OK, and reboot
your computer if prompted.

Note3: To install .NET Framework 3.5 follow the below process. You need Windows
Installation Media such as DVD, ISO image or USB.
1. Insert the Windows Installation DVD, or double-click your ISO image, or insert
USB drive, according to what you have.
2. Open 'This PC' and note the drive letter of the Windows installation media.
3. Open Command Prompt as Admin (Press Win + X and click Command Prompt
(Admin)) and type the following command:
Be sure to replace the Y with the drive letter of the Installation media.
Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /All /Source:Y:\sources\sxs
/LimitAccess

Note4: You are using DriveTrain toolkit must have the Window Media Feature Pack
installed on their computer. This has been added as a Requirement in the 2020 version

1. The Install License Server is installed using the option from the RecurDyn DVD
Installation screen as shown in the figure.

2. The Destination Location for the FunctionBay License Server must be defined. The
default location is typical for a Windows application.

5. A browser window appears. The location of the RecurDyn license file that was
provided by the local RecurDyn sales representative should be set.
6. The License Server files will be copied to the installation directory. If you want to
stop the FunctionBay License Server installation, click the Cancel button.

8. The Licenser Server software should be running now. You can go to the Program
Folder of the FunctionBay License Server (accessed from the Start button, then
selecting All Programs) and run the FLEXlm Utility to check the status of the License
Server.
9. The FLEXlm Utility provides capabilities to start and stop the License Server, as well
as perform diagnostics. The FLEXlm End Users Guide provides valuable information
about the License Server.
Note1: Using the license server version offered with the RecurDyn version is required.
◼ If you use the previous license server version, it might have some problems to
confirm the RecurDyn license.

Note2: The default port number in the license file supported from FunctionBay is 11800.
If other services are stopped by starting FunctionBay License Server, they maybe use
same port number. To resolve it, we recommend specifying port number in the SERVER
line for FunctionBay License Server.
If the function is successfully activated, you can check the log window as shown below.
The function is set up in minutes, and if the value is less than 0, the function is
deactivated.

2. Insert the RecurDyn DVD into your DVD-ROM drive. The RecurDyn installation
program should automatically begin to run, bring up the window shown in the
figure.
2. Notification is given that the InstallShield wizard is being prepared. The window will
put itself away after the wizard preparation is complete.

2. The Next button will no longer be grayed out. Click the Next button to continue.
3. The computer hardware and software system requirements are presented. This
information is also provided in Chapter 1 of this manual.

4. The RecurDyn installation offers two setup types. To use the Complete type which is
the default is recommended to user. Click Next to accept the setup type.

5. Program Folder can be customized. This is the folder that RecurDyn appears in,
under the All Programs list. Click Next to accept the Program Folder.

6. The RecurDyn files will be installed. A status bar will show the progress. The window
is put away when all the files are loaded.
7. Note that the installation window for pre-requirement softwares will appear as
shown in the figure.

Note2: When RecurDyn is installed with the keyword of this function set to False, the
following functions cannot be used.
◼ ProcessNet using VSTA
◼ TNO
Note3: This function is available only when the full version is installed.

8. A new window will appear when all files are installed. Click the Finish button to
acknowledge the completion of the file installation. With checking Open What’s New
option, you can see What’s New document.
9. After finishing the installation, RecurDyn License Manager will appear. Refer to
Registration of License.

Note: At the end of the installation, RecurDyn License Manager window opens for your
convenience. However, some users do not need to do this. A Install_Preference.dat file
has been added to the packaging file to assist these users. (This file can be opened
using a text editor.)
In this file, there is a line "License Manager Execution Automatically = True". In this line,
you cannot open RecurDyn License Manager window from opening by changing the True
keyword to False as follows:
◼ License Manager Execution Automatically = False

◼ Modify: Install the selected Feature, uninstall the unselected Feature and no
changes if the feature selection status is same as the installation.
◼ Repair: Reinstall the Features that were selected during the installation.
◼ Remove: Uninstall all installed Features.
Note: At the end of the installation, there is a function to copy folders and files defined
by the user. Create a folder named by “Copy Folder” where Setup.exe is located. And put
the files to be copied inside the Copy Folder. After installation, the files in the Copy
Folder are copied to the install directory.
Example
Define Copy Folder where Setup.exe is located and put files as shown in the figure
below.

In the preceding figure, ProgramSettings.xml is an existing file and the file has the path
of online help. We change the html path like bellow figures for testing.
◼ XML file is defined as below. Change the path of Official online help for testing.
After the installation is finished, user can see that the files in the Copy Folder are copied
to the appropriate location.

If there are files that need to registration among the copied files, a file named
“Registry_Batch.dat” is create where setup.exe is located. Enter the file name and
registration command as shown in the picture below and save it, and it will
automatically find and register it in the install directory where the copy process is
completed.

Tip: If the RecurDyn icon appears as a generic icon, place the cursor in the
background of the installation window, click the right mouse button and select
Refresh from the pop-up menu.

c. Tutorials – Training document for RecurDyn. The support material for tutorials in
found in the following RecurDyn installation directory.
4. The USUB folder contains example RecurDyn user subroutines. The DP_Study folder
contains a Design Parameter example, and the Examples folder contains a variety of
RecurDyn example models.
5. If you are asked to reboot your computer, you can do it immediately or after you set
up the licensing on the computer. Then your computer system will reboot, or you
can start registration process

REGISTRATION OF LICENSES
To register licenses, you can use a license file by selecting one of two types as On
Premise or Cloud.
◼ On Premise is to run RecurDyn when a license file enables a License Server
somewhere on the network. So, you should install FunctionBay License Server on
the License Server computer before registering the license.
◼ Cloud is that a set of valid user ID and password is needed. In this case, Internet
should be connected and there is no need to install any local license server for
connection. This service is available only for users who contracted Cloud license
server service with official RecurDyn dealers. For more information, please
contact RecurDyn dealers through (https://functionbay.com/en/contact-form).
1. You can access the RecurDyn License Manager from the Windows Start menu from
the FunctionBay folder.
Note:
o If you log in using a Standard User account (not an administrator account),
then the RecurDyn License Manager must be run using standard user
privileges. In other words, do not run the RecurDyn License Manager using
Administrator Privileges. The RecurDyn License Manager requires the same
privilege level as the account that will be used to run RecurDyn.
b. Enter the License Server name in the License column when the using a Floating
License.

Note: Multiple license servers can be registered. However, regardless of the order
in which they are registered, the license is obtained first from the server where
the connection was successful before. If you want the licenses to be imported in
the registered order, check Fixed Order.

3. An alert box appears to indicate that the license was registered successfully.

4. In RecurDyn License Manager, you can set the license for 3rd party supported in
RecurDyn.
When you register with the Floating License, you must make sure that you
have used the correct License Server name and the License Server is
operating properly before you execute RecurDyn.
If the server or your network is not operating properly, you will see an error
message. You then click the Cancel button, make sure the server and
network are operating correctly, and restart RecurDyn.
◼ The environment variable is set in User Variable. So, RecurDyn License Manager
should be executed for each user account.

◼ If you want the license information to be shared for all users, delete the
information in the User Variable and enter the environment variable in the
System Variable.
1. Without .NET 3.5, in the start of installation, you will be given the warning dialog as
below. To install RecurDyn without .NET 3.5, click ‘No’.

3. Click ‘Yes’ to install without .NET 3.5. Keep in mind that you cannot use ProcessNet
(VSTA) in this case.
SILENT INSTALL
Silent installations are installations that run without an end-user interface. If you want
your installation to run silently, follow the below process.
2. Open the Install_Preference.dat file and change the value of License Manager
Execution Automatically to False
4. Execute setup.exe file with command-line argument ‘-s’. You can make shortcut of
setup.exe file and add ‘-s’ at the end of Target Path.

5. After Silent Install, you may have to register the license information manually at
License Manager (…\Bin\LicMgr.exe).
Note
You can use silent install without changing the file name of iss file with custom
command-line below.
Setup.exe /s /f1"C:\Temp\Setup_install.iss"
(Path of iss file should be changed to correct value.)

SILENT UNINSTALL
1. Change the name of the file setup_uninstall.iss to setup.iss.
3. After Silent Uninstall, it may be required to restart the computer to complete the
uninstallation process.
Note
You can use silent install without changing the file name of iss file with custom
command-line below.
Setup.exe /s /f1"C:\Temp\Setup_uninstall.iss"
(Path of iss file should be changed to correct value.)
3. Register slvcore.dll and convert.dll files using regsvr32.exe with custom command-
line below.
“regsvr32 SlvCore.dll” & “regsvr32 Conver.dll” (Administrator right is needed.)

Before starting this step, you should install RecurDyn on the Network Server
computer.
2. Insert the RecurDyn DVD into your DVD-ROM drive. The RecurDyn installation

b. Select the Type option as Server Name. (Refer to License Registration in Chapter
3.)

If the Network Client computer does not have permission, input the user name which
includes domain name and password.
3. After installing the pre-requirement software, the batch file will set the registry key
about RecurDyn, License and VSTA configuration.
5. After once running as Administrator, shortcut is created on all user Desktop folders.
The user can run RecurDyn as clicking shortcut.

There are some preparations before starting this step. There should be Linux
Network Server and Installer Computer. Installer Computer is used for
configuring the RecurDyn on the Linux Network Server. You should install
RecurDyn on Installer Computer before starting this step. Also, Installer
Computer should be able to access the target folder of Network Server where
RecurDyn should be installed.
1. Log on to the Installer computer using an account that has administrative privileges.
2. Insert the RecurDyn DVD into your DVD-ROM drive. The RecurDyn installation
program should automatically begin to run, bring up the window shown in the
figure.

6. Enter the Linux Host PC Name, RecurDyn Folder Name, Common Folder Name in the
following dialog box.
7. Click OK if the following folders are shared, accessible and are where RecurDyn is to
be installed.

• Load

11. After installer creates necessary batch files, it copies the RecurDyn and Common
folder to the user designated shared folder from Step 5. It copies the RecurDyn
folder which is 7GB+. Therefore, it might take several minutes.
12. The RecurDynNetworkClient.bat file will be created as shown in the figure. This file is
located in the following file path :
<Installer Computer InstallDir>\NetworkServer/NetworkClient
<Network Server InstallDir>\NetworkServer/NetworkClient

2. Click the RecurDyn License Manager. The RecurDyn License Manager window
appears as the following figure.
The user should input the port number in the license file before setting up the
redundant license. The following is an example of the license file configured for three-
server redundancy.
And the user should enter the three servers installed in the RecurDyn License Manager
window as the right example.

If the installation of the redundant license is failed, please check the Windows Firewall
in Control Panel. (Start->Settings->Control Panel->Windows Firewall) or (Start-
>Settings->Control Panel->Security Center->Windows Firewall)
1. Make sure the radio button and select the Off option.
2. Press the Browse button.
3. Find the FunctionBay License Server folder.
4. Add ‘fblmd.exe’ and ‘lmgrd.exe’
5. Click the OK button.

4. RecurDyn is now ready to for use with account without administrative privileges as well
as with administrative privileges.

INITIALIZATION PROBLEMS
You can use this option to initialize User Settings and License Information.
a. You can use this option to delete dump files which are created when RecurDyn
crashes. RecurDyn saves these dump files in User Setting folder.
b. You can use this option to initialize the location of Tool Bar and customized layout.
(In this case, you must use it with User Settings Registry Key option.)

a. You can use this option to delete all your license information registered in RecurDyn
License Manager.
REGISTRATION PROBLEMS
You can use this option to solve registration issues by re-register some of registries
related to RecurDyn.
1. Solver
a. You can use this option when RecurDyn tab is disappeared in RecurDyn Model file
properties.
a. You can use this option when RecurDyn tab is disappeared in RecurDyn Model file
properties.

a. You can use this option to open *.rdyn and *.rdx file with target version.
4. KISSsoft COM
a. KISSsoft is used in RecurDyn/DriveTrain toolkit. When the KISSsoft COM fail message
is appears during the analysis, you can use this option.
5. CoLink
a. You can use this option to open *.clk file with target version.
PROCESSNET PROBLEMS
You can use this option when ProcessNet related problems occur.
1. VSTA Initialize
a. You can use this option when ProcessNet is not working because information
registered to VSTA Host is not correct about RecurDyn.

2. Template Project
a. You can use this option to initialize VSTA Template Project to Default state.
3. Assembly Registration
a. You can use this option when ProcessNet is not working because registration of
ProcessNet Assembly is failed
a. You can use this option to clear the VSTA project list in Run dialog. Also, you can use
this option when ProcessNet is not working with below error message.

3. Follow the instructions and click next to proceed. In Setup Type, there are three
installation options, and set the type according to the purpose.
C. Agent + Solver: Install agent and standalone solver required for simulation

4. Check once again the components to be installed according to the selected Type.

5. After confirming the installation path and clicking Next, the installation starts. When
the installation is finished, the completion screen appears as shown below.
6. When the installation is complete, you can check it in the Start menu.
