 Characteristics: Typically one sheet or a few sheets, often folded, containing essential

Why Called Leaflets?

Planning Leaflets in Technical Writing

 Understand Your Purpose: Before creating a leaflet, you must understand its purpose.
Are you informing, instructing, promoting, or persuading? Having a clear purpose is essential.

 Identify Your Target Audience: Know who your leaflet is for. Understand their
demographics, interests, needs, and expectations. This information will guide your content and
design choices.

 Determine Key Messages: Decide on the main messages or information you want to
convey. Be concise and focus on the most important points. Prioritize the information based on
its relevance to the audience.

 Create a Hierarchy of Information: Organize the content in a logical order. Start with
an attention-grabbing headline or title, followed by subheadings, and then supporting text.
Ensure the flow is easy to follow.

 Use Visual Elements: Visual elements like images, diagrams, charts, and icons can
make your leaflet more engaging and help convey information more effectively. Ensure
that visuals are relevant and enhance the message.

 Write Concisely: Keep your text concise and to the point. Use clear and straightforward
language. Avoid jargon and technical terms that the audience may not understand.

 Design the Layout: Pay attention to the layout and design. Consider factors like font
style, size, and color. Use a consistent design that aligns with your organization’s branding.

 Include Contact Information: If the leaflet is for a business or organization, provide

contact information, such as a phone number, email address, or website, so readers can
reach out for more information.

 Review and Proofread: Thoroughly review and proofread your leaflet to ensure there
are no grammatical errors, typos, or inconsistencies. A well-presented leaflet enhances your
credibility

 Test with a Sample Audience: If possible, test the leaflet with a sample
audience to gather feedback. This can help you identify any issues or areas for
improvement.

 Print and Distribute: Once the leaflet is finalized, determine how you will print
and distribute it. This may involve using professional printing services or sharing it
digitally.

 Evaluate Effectiveness: After distribution, assess the leaflet’s effectiveness in

achieving its intended goals. Did it resonate with the audience? Did it lead to the
desired action or response?

Note: When planning leaflets, always keep the audience’s perspective in mind. Ensure
that the information is presented in a clear, concise, and visually appealing manner to
effectively communicate your message.
