Animation Syllabus:
Welcome to your Animation class! I'm absolutely thrilled to have you join me on
this creative adventure. Together, we'll explore the exciting world of visual storytelling
and embark on a journey of self-discovery. This class is your safe haven to explore your
unique style, unleash your creativity, and learn new techniques. From designing
captivating visuals to bringing characters to life through animation, we'll dive into the
endless realm of artistic possibilities. So, get ready to embrace your inner artist, make
lifelong memories, and discover the incredible things you're capable of. This class is not
just about learning, it's about finding your voice and creating art that truly reflects who
you are.
This syllabus will serve as a crucial guide for our class, outlining expectations,
assignments, and important information. It is important for both students and parents to
thoroughly read and understand the syllabus to ensure a successful learning
experience. To emphasize its significance, I will require a signature from both students
and parents, acknowledging that they have read and understood the syllabus. This
signature will serve as an important step towards building a collaborative and
accountable learning community and will also be considered as a graded assignment.
In this computer lab, students should expect to move around frequently and be
prepared to collaborate with everyone in the class at least once. Flexibility is a key
component of our learning environment, and teamwork and group work will comprise
approximately 90 percent of the class activities.
Working effectively with others is essential, so if there is anyone with whom a student
feels they cannot work well or cannot work with, it is important for them to communicate
this as soon as possible. We will strive to create a positive and inclusive atmosphere
where everyone can contribute and learn together.
By engaging in collaborative projects and tasks, students will develop important
teamwork skills, such as communication, problem-solving, and cooperation. These skills
are not only valuable in the computer lab but also in various professional settings.
Remember, effective teamwork requires active participation, respectful communication,
and the ability to listen and consider different perspectives. Embrace the opportunities
to work with different classmates, as it will broaden your understanding, enhance your
skills, and foster a supportive learning community.
2

Be open-minded, adaptable, and ready to contribute to the success of the group.

Together, we will create a dynamic and interactive learning environment that promotes
both personal growth and the achievement of collective goals.

Classroom Expectations for Lab

instructed by the teacher before leaving the lab. Leave the workspace clean and
organized for the next user. Push in the chair or roll your chair back to your
space.
16. Some days, we will be sitting at tables without using computers. Please refrain
from automatically signing into the computers on those days.
17. Check the whiteboard for pre-class instructions. Important information and
announcements will be posted there.
18. Never touch a computer without permission. Always ask for permission before
using or accessing any computer in the classroom.

2. Phones must be turned off or set to silent mode and kept out of sight.
3. Refrain from using phones for personal calls, texting, or browsing social media
platforms.
4. Do not use phones for any form of communication or entertainment while in
class.
5. Exceptions to the policy may be granted for educational purposes with the
teacher's permission.
6. Any violation of the no phone policy may result in disciplinary action.
o First Occurrence:
▪ Verbal reminder to put the phone away and focus on class.

▪ Phone returned at the end of the class period or when appropriate.

Phones will NOT be taken to the office and if it is taken up you will get it back at the end
of class.

If a classroom rule is broken, a progressive discipline approach will

generally be followed. The steps of action may include:

1. Warning: The student will be given a verbal warning, reminding them of the
classroom rules and expectations.
2. Phone call home: If the behavior continues or escalates, the teacher may contact
the student's parent or guardian to discuss the issue and find ways to address
and resolve it.
3. Write-up: If the misconduct persists, a written report documenting the incident
and the actions taken will be filed. This serves as a formal record and may be
shared with the school administration.
4. Parent-teacher meeting: A meeting will be arranged involving the student's parent
or guardian, the teacher, and possibly a school administrator or counselor. The
purpose of this meeting is to discuss the ongoing behavioral concerns and
develop a plan for improvement.
5. Meeting with teacher, principal, and parent: If the misconduct continues despite
previous interventions, a meeting involving the student, their parent or guardian,
5

the teacher, and the school principal may be scheduled. This meeting aims to
address the issue more comprehensively and explore additional strategies to
address the student's behavior.
6. Final course of action: If the behavior remains unacceptable and there is no
improvement, the teacher, in consultation with the school administration, may
determine that failing the class due to behavior is the appropriate consequence.
At this point, the student may be advised to consider another Career and
Technical Education (CTE) course or alternative educational opportunities.
It is crucial to maintain a positive and conducive learning environment. However,
the teacher may need to exercise discretion and adjust the disciplinary measures based
on the severity of the incident, ensuring the safety and well-being of all students. The
primary objective remains to promote a positive learning environment that supports the
academic and personal growth of all students.

Expectations for Class Presentations:

1. In our class, we will have various opportunities to present our work to different
audiences, including peers, judges, and industry professionals. These
presentations will vary in their level of formality, so it's important to understand
the expectations and conduct yourself accordingly.

2. Informal Presentations: Some presentations will be more laid-back and casual,

where you can showcase your work and receive feedback from your peers. While
the atmosphere may be relaxed, it's still important to present your ideas clearly
and professionally.

3. Formal Presentations: On certain occasions, we will have formal presentations

where you will be required to dress and act as a professional. These
presentations may involve industry professionals or potential employers, so it's
crucial to make a positive impression. Dressing appropriately and demonstrating
a high level of professionalism will reflect your commitment to your craft.

4. Dress Code: If you don't have proper attire for a formal presentation, please let

suitable clothing for the occasion. Planning ahead will ensure you feel confident
and prepared for these important moments.

5. Advanced Notice: I will provide you with ample warning before any presentation
that involves industry professionals. You will have sufficient time to prepare,
practice, and polish your work. Being aware of when design professionals will be
present allows you to mentally and professionally prepare yourself to make the
most of the opportunity.

6. Networking: Remember that networking is a significant aspect of this career field.

The design community is relatively small, and you will likely encounter the same
individuals frequently. They could become your future co-workers, bosses, or
even offer you internships. Therefore, it's vital to conduct yourself professionally
and leave a lasting positive impression. Treat every interaction as an opportunity
to build connections and establish your professional reputation.

Required Class Materials:

To ensure a smooth learning experience and effective participation in class activities,
please come prepared with the following materials:
1. Flash drive: A USB flash drive is essential for storing and transferring your digital
design files. It allows you to easily access your work from different computers
and ensures that your projects are safely backed up.
2. Sketchbook: Please bring a sketchbook with no lines. This will serve as a space
for you to brainstorm ideas, sketch out concepts, and explore your creativity. The
absence of lines allows for more freedom in your artistic expression.
3. Pencils or pens: Bring a selection of pencils or pens for sketching and note-
taking during class. Having different tools will allow you to experiment with
various line weights and styles.
4. Binder: It's important to have a binder to keep your sketchbook and important
papers, such as class notes and handouts, organized and protected. This will
help you stay organized and easily access your materials when needed.
If you are unable to acquire any of these materials, please let me know in advance. I'm
here to support you, and we can work together to find suitable alternatives or solutions.

Submission of Class Materials:

1. Flash Drive: Your flash drive is a crucial tool for storing your digital work. At the
end of each class session where we use the computers, I will collect everyone's
flash drives to ensure the safety and organization of your files. This ensures that
no work is lost or stolen and allows for efficient access to your projects during
future classes.
10

2. Sketchbooks: Occasionally, I will collect your sketchbooks for grading purposes.

Please refrain from using your sketchbook for other classes.

I have thoroughly reviewed the syllabus alongside my parents, and I am committed to

adhering to all the rules and guidelines outlined within it. I understand the importance of
maintaining a structured and respectful learning environment, and I am determined to
contribute positively to the class by following the instructions provided. With the support
of my parents, I am confident that I will fulfill all requirements and uphold the standards
