Course: GEC 8 (The Contemporary World)
Topic: Structures of Globalization
I. Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the module, you are expected to be able to:
1. Determine the structures of globalization; and,
2. Construct a timeline of the history of global market integration in the twentieth
century.
II. Core Values/ Biblical Principles/ Inspirational Quotes
In an era of globalization, the recognition of human dignity and the fight to safeguard human
rights have grown even more complex and demanding.
Financial capital around the world is becoming increasingly connected, and wealth is becoming
increasingly concentrated in the hands of financial elites and corporate entities. It is becoming
increasingly difficult to realize social and economic rights, particularly in terms of ending hunger
and lowering unemployment.
It is in this light that we realize our Christian tradition showing people to “do justice, embrace
faithful love, and walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8b). What has to be globalized is a
culture of peace in visible and practiced ways in the lives of all humanity.
We must globalize an ethos that values and defends human life through human rights, so that
everyone “could have life – indeed,… live life to the fullest” (John 10:10b), as God intended.
III. Learning Activities and Resources
As mentioned in the previous section, the economic dimension of globalization is at the heart of
the discussion. To continue with this course, it is important to determine the structures of
globalization.
Please read “A Course Module for the Contemporary World” by Botor et al., pages 21 to 56 to better
understand the structures of globalization.
A cluster session will be scheduled for a thorough discussion on the concepts of globalization
structures. Please refer to the announcement of your class professor for the schedule and link.
Your class professor will also schedule a synchronous class session for clarifications, information
processing, and academic consultations.

IV. Introduction:
We begin our discussion with global economy with the following questions: What is more
necessary for the society – the present or the future? Has the global economy gone too far, not far
enough, or has it been heading in the wrong direction?
This unit will assist you to think independently, to make sound judgments, and to cooperate and
collaborate with others to understand new situations in the changing world. A new system of
knowledge, education, and learning will be included in the variety of synchronous and
asynchronous activities to help teachers and students break space and time constraints.

of today's technologies. It is concluded that knowledge, skills, and intellectual assets must be
shared globally to support diverse developments at various levels. Promoting international
understanding, collaboration, harmony, and acceptance of cultural diversity across countries and
regions is a must, especially in these times of uncertainty.
