Computer Networking Project

The document outlines the requirements for designing a network for a three-floor university college. Each floor will have a router connected to switches to service the departments on that floor. The floors will be connected via serial cables between the routers. VLANs will be configured to separate the network traffic of each department into their own subnets. DHCP and SSH will be configured for device IP addressing and remote access. Port security will restrict a specific port to only allow a designated device.

University College Network Design Project

Project Requirements
As a part of your course study, you are required to design and implement University College
network. Assume, the college has three floors; in the first floor there are three departments
(Computer Science, Software Engineering and Information Systems), in the second floor
there are three departments (Civil Engineering, Biology and Economics), while the third floor
hosts the IT department and Geography department. Therefore, the following are part of the
considerations during the design and implementation;
There should be three routers connecting each floor (all placed in the server room in Computer
Science department).

 All routers should be connected to each other using serial cable.

 The network between the routers should be 10.10.10.0/30,10.10.10.4/30 and
10.10.10.8/30.
 Each floor is expected to have one switch (placed in the respective floor).
 Each floor is expected to have WIFI networks connected to laptops and phones.
 Each department is expected to have a printer.
 Each department is expected to be in different VLAN with the following details;
1st Floor;
- Computer Science- VLAN 80, Network of 192.168.8.0/24
- Software Engineering- VLAN 70, Network of 192.168.7.0/24
- Information Systems- VLAN 60, Network of 192.168.6.0/24
2nd Floor;
- Civil Engineering- VLAN 50, Network of 192.168.5.0/24
- Biology- VLAN 40, Network of 192.168.4.0/24
- Economics- VLAN 30, Network of 192.168.3.0/24
3rd Floor;
- IT Department- VLAN 20, Network of 192.168.2.0/24
- Geography Department- VLAN 10, Network of 192.168.1.0/24
 All devices in the network are expected to obtain IP address dynamically with their
respective router configured as the DHCP server.
 All the devices in the network are expected to communicate with each other.
 Configure SSH in all the routers for remote login.
 In IT department, add PC called Test-PC to port fa0/1 and use it to test remote login.
 Configure port security to Computer-department switch to allow only Test-PC to access
port fa0/1

Implementation

1. Create a network topology (select your topology based on your network design) using
Cisco Packet Tracer
2. Connect Network devices with Correct cabling
3. Create VLANs and assign ports VLAN numbers
4. Make Subnetting and IP Addressing to your network
5. Configure Inter-VLAN Routing
6. Configure DHCP Server (Router as the DHCP Server)
7. Configure SSH for secure Remote access
8. Configure switchport security or Port-Security on the switches
9. Configuring Wireless LAN or wireless network (Cisco Access Point).
10. Host Device Configurations
11. Test and Verifying Network Communication

Note:
-Organize your group into 5 members
-Design and implement the above problem using packet tracer software
-Last submission date is on 30/12/2015e.c unless 10% deduction
-All students should participate in the project work
