Detailed Lesson Plan in Math 5 - DIVISIBILITY

The document provides a detailed lesson plan for teaching divisibility rules for 3, 6, and 9 to 5th grade students. It includes objectives, materials, procedures, examples, group activities, and an evaluation. The teacher guides students through interactive discussions and examples to help them understand divisibility rules and how to determine if a number is divisible by 3, 6, or 9. Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics V

by Ma. Julie C. Enciso

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the pupils will be able to:

a. Define divisibility rules.

b. Identify appropriate divisibility.
c. Choose appropriate divisibility.

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic: Divisibility Rules for 3, 6 and 9

b. Reference: 21st Century MATHletes 5 pages 30-41
c. Materials: Laptop, marker, construction papers and tarp papel

III. Procedure (Inductive Method)

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

a. Preparation
Good morning grade 5 pupils!
Good morning teacher!
My name is Ma. Julie C. Enciso. Just call me Teacher Julie.
I will be your Mathematics Teacher for today.
Before we start our formal lesson, I have three (3)
rules while our discussion is on-going:
1. One mouth policy.
2. “I” turn
3. Actively participate.
What was your lesson last Monday and tell something
about it?
Yes, Jia?
Rounding Whole Number
Very good Jia!
Can you identify what’s missing letters in this word and
choose here the appropriate letter to be put?
Anybody? Yes, Mica?
(Mica identifies the missing letter in the word
and picks the letter “I”).
Very good Mica you choose the letter.
Yes Vic?
(Vic identifies the missing letter in the word
and picks the letter “S”).
Very Good Vic you did it confidently.
Yes, Aby?
(Aby identify the missing letter in the word
and pick the letter “L”).
Very Good Aby you did it great.
What word did you formed?
Yes, Ana?
DIVISIBILITY
Very good Ana you pinpoint it.
Let’s give Jia, Mica, Vic, Aby and Ana thumbs up clap.
I’ll be the first to do the clap. It goes like this.
(1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, thumbs up, thumbs up, thumbs up.)

1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, thumbs up, thumbs up,

thumbs up.
b. Presentation
Our lesson for today is Divisibility of 3, 6 and 9.

c. Discussion
Let’s first have a vocabulary list.
Divisible- means dividing a number without any
remainder.
Divisibility Rules- are set of general rules that are often
used to determine whether or not a number is evenly
divisible by another number.

Ways to Find if Divisible by 3, 6 and 9

Divisible by Method of Example
Testing
Number
3 A number Example 1: 18
is divisible by Step 1: Adds the
3 if the sum digit. 1+8=9.
of the digits is Step 2: Determine if
divisible by 3. 9 is divisible by 3.
Or if the 9÷3=3. Therefore 18
number is a is divisible by 3. 18 is
multiple of 3. a multiple of 3,
(3,6,9,12,15,18).
6 A number Step 1: Determine if
is divisible by the number is even. It
6 if the ends in 0,2,4,6 and 8.
number is Example 2: 12 the
divisible by 2 underlined last digit is
and 3. Also, an even number; it is
multiple of a divisible by 2.
both 2 and 3. Step 2: See if the
number is divisible by
3 as explained in the
first example above.
Example 2: 12
(1+2=3); it is a
divisible by 3.
Therefore 12 is
divisible by 6 because
it is both divisible by 2
and 3. Also 12, is a
multiple of both 2 and
3. (2,4,6,8, 10, 12)
(3,6,9, 12)
9 The sum of its Example 3: 99
digit is Step 1: Add the
divisible by 9 digits. (9+9=18)
and multiple
of 9. Step 2: Determine if
18 is divisible by 9.
(18÷9=2); it is
divisible by 9. 99 is
divisible by 9. Also it is
a multiple of 9,
(9,18,27,36,
45,54,63,72,81,90,99)
Now, We will have a board work.
Choose the appropriate divisibility by circling it.
1. 933 a. 3 b. 6 c. 9
2. 621 a. 3 b. 6 c. 9
3. 816 a. 3 b. 6 c. 9
4. 855 a. 3 b. 6 c. 9

D. Generalization
What is divisibility rule? Yes, Mike? Are set of general rules that are often used to
determine whether or not a number is evenly
divisible another number.

Very good Mike you recalls it immediately.

What is the importance of divisibility rule in our daily life? For instance, You are canvassing online
market which grocery store offers cheaper
cans of tuna. You can determine it quickly by
using divisibility of rule.

Very good Kate you have internalize our lesson very well.
Let’s give Mike and Kate a bravo clap.
(1,2,3,1,2,3, bravo clap, bravo clap, bravo clap.) 1,2,3,1,2,3, bravo clap, bravo clap, bravo
clap.

E. Application
We will have a group work.
Here are my rules for groupings.
1. After counting, go to your assign group quietly.
2. Actively participate in the task given by the teacher.
3. Every member of the group will go in front to report
I will group the class into 2. I will give an activity
card that you will do and materials for the activity.
If you have clarifications or questions, raise your hand
so I can acknowledge you.
The activity duration is five (5) minutes.
Activity Card for Group 1 and 2:
Direction: Choose appropriate divisibility then show your
solution. Write it in a manila paper.
1. 864
2. 360
Start the activity.
(The pupils start the activity given.)
Time’s up!
(The pupils start the reporting and acting.)
(The report ends.)

(The teacher checks the work.)

Very good children! Give yourselves a round of applause.

IV. Evaluation

Choose the correct divisible then write the letter before the blank.
b. 1. 162 a. 3 b. 6 c. 9
c. 2. 342 a. 3 b. 6 c. 9
b. 3. 336 a. 3 b. 6 c. 9
a & c 4. 198 a. 3 b. 6 c. 9

V. Assignment
Write 3 examples each of divisible by 3, 6 and 9.
