RCS - Assignment 1

The document provides instructions for Assignment 1 of a reinforced concrete design course. It includes 3 design problems: 1) designing the flexure and shear reinforcement for an interior beam in a floor system with given parameters, 2) designing a simply supported beam with given loads and materials, and 3) computing the maximum moment for a beam with given dimensions and reinforcement. Students are instructed to assume any missed data and that copying will disqualify their results. Neatness will be considered in grading.

Title of the Course: Design Reinforced Concrete Structures

ASSIGNmENT 1
General Instruction:
 Assume any missed data with reasonable justification.
 Copying from each other will disqualify your result.
 Neatness will owe the point.

1. A floor system is supported by beams spaced at 2.5m on the center lines

which are simply supported at one end and fixed at the other. The beam are
6 m in span with web width 250 mm, overall depth limited to 500 mm and
slab thickness 100mm. The floor is subjected to a super imposed service
load of 4 KN/m2. Design the typical interior beam for flexure and shear
reinforcement.
Use concrete C30, steel S300 and Class I works.

2. Design a singly supported beam of span and width of 5m and 300mm

respectively. The loads acting on the beam are live load of 20 KN/m in
addition to self-weight.
Materials used are: C20, S300 and Class II work

3. Compute the maximum moment sustained by the beam of designed depth

and width of 350mm and 300mm respectively, using 4Փ20 longitudinal bars
provided under tension zone and Փ8 for transversal bars was used.
Materials used are: C-25 and S-360, Class I work

Due date:May 22, 2023
