Twiligth review

Name: Tanya Camps

Number: 3
0. Name the author, the original source of material and its genre.

The author is Stephenie Meyer.

She was inspired by many novels she read and decided to create one.

Its genre is novel and its subgenres are fiction and romanticism.

1. Make a synopsis of the movie.

When Bella's mother begins to travel with her husband, 17-year-old Bella has no choice
but to leave her home in Phoenix and return to live with her father in the small town
called Forks, Washington. She meets a boy named Edward and although he initially
avoids her, they end up getting to know each other. Soon the young couple is inseparable
and Edward's internal struggle intensifies as Bella longs to become one of them. As Bella
discovers Edward's world, she is thrown headlong into a thrilling and terrifying romance,
which draws the attention of a group of vampires who don't have the same qualms about
human blood as the Cullens and decide to make her their next victim.

2. Name the main characters.

Bella, Edward and the Cullens.

3. Name the antagonists.

James, Victoria and Laurent.

4. How does this movie change the vampire mythology?
Vampires with characteristics different from those of the traditional myth are shown.
Although the vampires in the movie bear similarities to the vampires of legend, they have
many more unique characteristics and supernatural abilities. Like for example, each
vampire has a different quality, some can read minds and others can see the future. In
real life, vampires’ eyes only change color when they are about to attack, while in the
movie this is not the case. In the movie, vampires glow in the sunlight instead of burning
like vampires in myth.

5. What is it the most significant difference between the twilight

vampires and the original myth?

In the movie they can control their thirst for human blood while in the myth they can't.
In the movie the vampires live like a human and can do everyday things while in the
myth they don't.

6. Are you familiar with the terms Mary Sue and Gary Stu?
Whether yes or not, define it.

A Mary Sue is a character who seems unrealistically perfect; an idealized female character
without demonstrable flaws, used as a kind of wish fulfilment for the author and
audience. Although this criticism is mostly associated with female characters, male
versions have been referred to as a Gary Stu or Marty Stu.
7. After searching and writing what a Mary Sue and Gary Stu are,
do you consider Bella Swan and Edward Cullen to be under such
terms?

I don't think Bella and Edward are Mary Sue characters for the simple fact that the movie
is funny. It has many ups and downs with each character. It doesn't really show up as a
scenario where we can see everything going in favor of characters like these Edward and
Bella.

8. How would you categorize Edward and Bella’s relationship? Is it

sane or do you find it has flaws? Why?

Their relationship is far from a healthy one. It's mostly based on control and fear. Edward
stalking her under the excuse of "protecting" and "caring about her", and his power over
Bella was such that even when he left, she was still controlled by him somehow. Edward
controls who Bella is allowed to associate with, threatens to kill himself if anything
happens to her and frequently scares her in a variety of ways such as by driving too fast or
abandoning her in the woods after breaking up with her. And for that reason I consider
that it is a toxic relationship

9. What impact did the novels and films have on the pop culture?

The impact that the movie had on pop culture is that it made the world fall in love with a
super couple, made up of a human and a vampire for the first time. It also introduced a
whole world of sagas and interest in the teenagers of the time.
10. Write a summary of the movie parting from when Bella visits
the Cullens for the first time.

Edward invites her to meet his family who are happy to meet her, except for Rosalie. He
takes her to a forest that is near the house, they climb trees and see the view. Later, they
invite her to a baseball game, in which for the first time the danger in which Bella is
manifested. This manifests itself with the visit of James, Victoria and Laurent.

11. What would you change of the ending? Why would you change
it? How would you change it?

I think it's fine but if I had to add or change something, I would extend the ending by
having Victoria see Bella and Edward, so that they meet and maybe that's where it ends.
Since it was not known what Victoria's intentions were. In short, I would add more
action at the end so that the person watching is more satisfied.
