Computer Networking: o o o o o o o o o o o o o

The document discusses computer networking concepts including TCP, IP, UDP, FTP, HTTP, ISPs, IP addressing classes, DNS, URLs, and an introduction to the internet including requirements, services provided, viruses, firewalls and passwords. It also covers HTML basics like page design, lists, images, hyperlinks and tables. Uses of networks include sharing resources, software/databases, fast communication between computers, and exchanging data/information. Advantages are connecting computers to send/receive information and share printers/scanners/email. Disadvantages include high initial costs, security risks without precautions, outdated components, administration time, and regular failures.

Uses of Computer Networks

Here are some common application of computer networks

1. Helps you to share resource such as printers

2. Allows you to share expensive software’s and database among network
participants
3. Provides fast and effective communication from one computer to another
computer
4. Helps you to exchange data and information among users via a network.

Advantages of Computer Networking

Here are the fundamental benefits/pros of using Computer Networking:

Computer Networking

1. Helps you to connect with multiple computers together to send and receive
information when accessing the network.
2. Helps you to share printers, scanners, and email.
3. Helps you to share information at very fast speed
4. Electronic communication is more efficient and less expensive than without the
network.

Disadvantages of Computer Networking

Here are drawbacks/ cons of using computer networks:

1. Investment for hardware and software can be costly for initial set-up
2. If you don’t take proper security precautions like file encryption, firewalls then
your data will be at risk.
3. Some components of the network design may not last for many years, and it
will become useless or malfunction and need to be replaced.
4. Requires time for constant administration
5. Frequent server failure and issues of regular cable faults

INTRODUCTION TO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM:

Communication is the process of establishing connection (or link) between two points
for information exchange. The Science of Communications involving long distances is
called Telecommunication ( the world Tele standing for long distance). The Two basic
types of communication systems are

(i) Analog.

(ii) Digital.

In Analog Systems: Both the information and the carrier are analog signals.

In Digital Systems: The digital pulses are transferred between two or more points in a

communication system.

Analog communication:

The modulation systems or techniques in which one of the characteristics of the

carrier is changed in proportion with the instantaneous value of modulating signal is
called analog communication system.
