Lesson 1 Introduction of Computer

Charles Babbage is considered the father of computers for his conceptual designs of mechanical calculating machines in the 1800s. Computers have evolved greatly since then and are now essential tools used in many aspects of modern life like education, business, communication, and entertainment. Computers consist of both hardware and software. Hardware refers to the physical components like processors, memory, and storage devices. Software includes operating systems and programs. There are different types of computers ranging from personal computers for individual use to mainframes for large organizations.

LESSON 1 CORE COMPETENCIES

INTRODUCTION
OF COMPUTER

TRAINER: KING NARDO

WHAT IS
COMPUTER?
A Computer is a general purpose device that can be programmed to
carry out a set of arithmetic or logical operations automatically.

Defining Computers

accepts input
processes data
stores data
produces output
WHY
COMPUTER?
"Now we are living in
the world where
almost everybody
knows the word
Computer and more
than 60% of people
know how to use it"
Why are
Computers so
important ?
Because it is very
much accurate,
fast and can
accomplish many
tasks easily.

WHO MAKE
COMPUTER?
charles
babage
Charles Babbage (1791–1871) was
an English mathematician,
philosopher, inventor, and
mechanical engineer who is often
referred to as the "father of the
computer." He is best known for
his conceptual designs of
mechanical calculating machines,
which laid the groundwork for
modern computers.
Computer
History
The First Computer
Analytical Engine
In 1837, Charles Babbage
proposed the first general
mechanical computer, the
Analytical Engine. The Analytical
Engine contained an Arithmetic
Logic Unit (ALU), basic flow
control, punch cards (inspired by
the Jacquard Loom), and
integrated memory.
First programmable
computer
The Z1 was created by German
Konrad Zuse in his parents'
living room between 1936and
1938. It is considered to be the
first electro-mechanical binary
programmable computer, and
the first really functional
modern computer.
The first computer
with RAM

MIT introduces the Whirlwind

machine on March 8, 1955, a
revolutionary computer that
was the first digital computer
with magnetic core RAM and
real-time graphics.
The first computer
with Hardrive

"The first hard disk unit was

shipped September 13, 1956.
The first Personal
Computer

On 12 August 1981. IBM

gave the world its first
personal computer which
could easily be used by new
users and businesses for
work .
The first laptop or
portable computer

The first truly portable
computer or laptop is
considered to be the
Osborne I, which was
released on April 1981 and
developed by Adam
Osborne.
The first Apple
computer
Wozniak had been dabbling in

computer-design for some time
when, in 1976, he designed
what would become the Apple
I. Jobs, who had an eye for the
future, insisted that he and
Wozniak try to sell the machine,
and on April 1, 1976, Apple
Computer was born.
Four Types of
Computer
1. Personal Computer
2. Mini Computer
3. Mainframe Computer
4. Super Computer
PERSONAL COMPUTER

A computer designed for use

by one person at a time.
MINI COMPUTER
A minicomputer, or colloquially mini,
is a class of smaller computers that
developed in the mid-1960s. A
minicomputer is a medium-sized
computer that is more powerful
than the Personal computer
MAINFRAME COMPUTER
Mainframe computer is a large,
expensive, and powerful computer
that can be handle hundred or
thousand of clients at the same
time.
SUPER COMPUTER

A supercomputer is a computer
with a high level of
performance as compared to a
general-purpose computer.
THE TWO ELEMENTS
OF COMPUTER
HARDWARE

SOFTWARE
Computer Hardware is the
collection of physical parts of a
computer system. This includes
the computer case, monitor,
keyboard, and mouse. It also
includes all the parts inside the
computer case, such as the hard
disk drive, motherboard, video
card, and many others.
Computer hardware is what you
can physically touch.
Software is a set of instructions,
data or programs used to operate
computers and execute specific
tasks.

The operating system (OS)

manages all of the software and
hardware on the computer. It
performs basic tasks such as file,
memory and process management,
handling input and output, and
controlling peripheral devices
COMPONENT
OF COMPUTER
SYSTEMS
There are three types/Categories of Computer Hardware

INPUT OUTPUT STORAGE

any hardware component that allows basically means getting data out of basically means getting data out of the
computer. •Some of them can be
users to enter data and instructions the computer
classified as the Removable data
into a computer
Storage devices and the others as the
Non-removable data storage devices
Conclusion

Computers are an integral part of modern

life, performing a wide range of tasks and
significantly impacting society.
Understanding their components, functions,
and types is crucial for anyone interacting
with technology.

Remember, this lesson provides a basic

introduction to computers. As you continue
your learning journey, you can explore more
advanced topics such as programming,
networking, and computer architecture.
