COURSE/INSTRUCTOR INFORMATION
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a non-credit, intermediate level English course which focuses on reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
The course consists of twelve hours of classroom instruction over a 12-week semester. In this course, students
develop intermediate language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students’ work is mostly focused
on integrating the reading-writing and speaking-listening skills into direct class activities. Students receive
blended online instruction through My English Lab which reinforces targeted skills taught. Students prepare for
the TOEFL as a part of the curriculum.
Pre-requisites:
TOEFL Score of 440-479 or IELP 085.
Course Objectives
To provide students with the necessary writing and critical reading skills that enable them to write and edit essays
of various rhetorical modes.

To achieve the course objectives, an integrated approach emphasizing the following is used:

Note: All course work will be assessed on content, academic merit and communication skills.

Grading Profile:
Passing Policy
Class Attendance
In this course, you are expected to:

Attend all classes online from the first day of the semester.
Be punctual and attend the whole online session.
Be in every class. If you are absent for more than 15% of a course (4 hours), you will be
withdrawn from the class.
Participate in class discussions
Send an email in case of absence.
Help Sessions
Help sessions will be organized at convenient times as needed upon request from students.
Expected Behavior
You are expected to conduct yourself in an ethical and professional manner. This includes attending all online
class activities; meeting deadlines; observing common courtesies to fellow students, teachers, and staff; being
honest; and making a diligent effort to learn. Any disruptive behavior or academic dishonesty will not be
tolerated.
General Policies
The student must understand his/her rights and responsibilities that are published in the Student Catalogue on the
RHU website. He or she is urged to become familiar with all university policies that relate to conduct, appeals,
exams, and course management. For inquiries about these policies the student should refer to the course instructor
and faculty advisor.
Withdrawal Policy
Students wishing to withdraw from one or more courses must follow the withdrawal procedure provided by the
Registrar’s Office. Students withdrawing from a course after the Drop/Add period and before the withdrawal
deadline will receive a W for the course.
The deadline for withdrawal for Fall 2023 is Nov. 17
Email Communications
An email list server has been created for all students and for each of the programs to notify students of relevant
information. Students are expected to check their RHU email accounts at least once a day for information
regarding their courses, programs and events.
