The document outlines a lesson plan to teach students to identify all upper- and lower-case letters of the alphabet. The lesson includes introducing the topic with a paper pot activity, teaching the letters through a chart, guided practice of writing letters, independent practice identifying letters by sound, reinforcement activities on Lumio and a Google Classroom quiz, and a closure activity of placing letters in the soup. The teacher will formatively assess understanding throughout and summatively evaluate the quiz, expecting students to score an 8 out of 10 or higher.

TOPIC:

Today we will be learning about letters. The students will learn to identify all upper- and lower-case
letters of the alphabet.

OBJECTIVES/STANDARDS:

Standard- CC.1.K.B Recognize and name all upper- and lower- case letters of the alphabet

After being taught all the letters, TSWBAT identify letters of the alphabet and their order.

TEACHING PROCEDURES:

1) Introduction (Anticipatory Set)- Before the students come in, I will have a paper pot taped on the
board with Velcro letters on the board next to it. At the beginning of class, I will announce to the
students that today we are making alphabet soup. We need to put the pasta in the soup, but the
only way we can do that is by learning what these letters are. I will then explain to them that we
will be learning to identify upper- and lower-case letters.
2) Development- I will show my students a chart of all the upper-case letters, and we will go
through them together. I will point to each letter and say it out loud, then ask the students to
repeat it back to me. This will keep them engaged in their learning.
3) Guided Practice- I will pair each student with another and give them all a copy of the chart. They
will be asked to read through the alphabet taking turns saying each letter out loud to each other.
When Student A says a letter, Student B will write the letter down. Then Student B will say the
next letter, and Student A will write it down, and so forth. After everyone is done, I will assess by
having them read through them as a group. I will also go around and check their papers as they
are doing it.
4) Independent Practice- I will read off letters in a random order without pointing to the chart, and
the students will be asked to write down the letters they hear. I will assess this by checking their
papers afterwards.
5) Repeat steps 2,3,4, but with lower-case letters instead of upper-case letters.
6) Using Lumio, the students will complete a series of educational activities to reinforce their
understanding. https://suite.smarttech-prod.com/lesson/358e046e-0fd7-46a2-9c7c-

7) Students will then complete a quiz on Google Classroom to assess their learning.

loud, and placing it in the soup.

ADAPTATIONS/PLAN MODIFICATIONS

EVALUATION

1) Formative- Throughout the lesson, I asked my students to repeat things back to me to check
their understanding. I also walked around and checked their papers as they worked.
2) Summative- The students were asked to complete a quiz on Google Classroom. They will be
expected to get at least 8/10.

REFLECTION

1) Were my students actively engaged in their learning?

2) Were my students having trouble remembering the difference between upper- and lower-case
letters?
3) Was I able to give my students instructions clearly?
4) Was I prepared to answer any questions they may have?
