WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

INTRODUCING THE VIRTUOUS

SHEIKH ABD EL GHANI AOUSSAT
(May Allâh preserve him)

C
ertainly, Praise be to Allâh. We praise
Him, implore His Help, and ask Him for the
forgiveness. We ask Him
to protect us from the evil that exists within us
and from our evil deeds. W h o m Allâh guides,
no one can lead astray, and whom He leads astray,
no one can guide. And I testify that there is no
deity worthy of worship except Allâh, the One,
without partner. And I testify that Muhammad is
His servant and
Messenger.
Having said this, Allâh - Most High be He - has
made the hijab (veil) an act of worship for
believing women; He has made it obligatory for
them for the many and varied benefits it covers.

-6-
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

Indeed, the hijab has a number of benefits, both

overt and covert, religious and worldly.
It is a cult from which the one who practices it
will be rewarded, while the one who abstains
from it will be doomed to divine punishment.
Truly, Allâh - Purity be to Him - has never
commanded His servants to do a thing without it
being a source of good with great benefits, just as
He has never forbidden them to do an act only
because of the evil and harm it contains.
Believing women, like believing men, respond to
their Lord's command without hesitation or
rebellion. They also apply themselves to His
worship without adding or diminishing anything.
Allâh - the Most High - says: "The only response of
believers, when called to Allâh and His
Messenger, for the latter to judge between them,
is to say, "We have heard and we have obeyed!"
These are the successful ones." An-Noûr. V. 51.

-7-
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

These believers comply with the divine

prescription to wear the hijab, for the sake of
preservation (covering), modesty, chastity and
purity, and in obedience to Allâh - Most High be
He - and His Messenger; and all this...
... without modifying or changing anything, and
without resorting to laxity or choosing (not to wear
it). Allâh - Majesty be to Him - says: "It is not for a
believing man or woman, once Allâh and His
Messenger have decided on a thing, to have any
choice left in the way they act. And whoever
disobeys Allâh and His Messenger has gone
astray, surely, from an obvious error." El Ahzêb. V.
36.

Allâh - the Most High - has instructed all

Muslim women to wear the hijab, saying:
"O Prophet! Tell your wives, your daughters, and
the women of the believers to cover themselves
with their large veils: [Jalâbîb]." El-Ahzêb. V. 59.
It's an order involving obligation, constraint
and firmness. So it's up to them to be resolute and

-8-
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

applied [to carrying out Allâh's command]. And

may they not be led astray by some desire,
ambiguity or barrier.
This is because they have a very fine example
to follow in the conduct of the women of the
Companions. cÂ'icha - may Allâh be pleased
w i t h her - said:
"May Allâh have mercy on the first emigrant
women; when Allâh revealed His Word: "And let
them fold their veils over their breasts," they
hastened to cut their garments in half and veiled
themselves with them!" Thus, every Muslim
woman must submit and comply [with Allâh's
orders].
What's more, when the Muslim woman devotes
herself to contemplating this divine injunction,
she will end up unveiling noble wisdoms,
precious secrets and countless virtues! Also, she
will deduce, through the sacred texts on this
subject, inestimable benefits, including:
• The hijab is in fact a way of preserving a
woman's honor and purifying her heart.

-9-
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

and fructify his soul. Allâh - Purity be to

Him - says: "It is purer for your hearts
and their hearts." El Ahzêb. V. 53.
• It's also a sign of noble traits such as
chastity, dignity, modesty and defense of
honor.
• It's also a mark1 that distinguishes virtuous
women who behave in an honourable
manner!

1 It's worth noting in passing the scandalous events that

have taken place in France since 2003, concerning the ban

on the "veil in public schools". At the time, I recall some
disgraceful remarks made by certain mosque leaders! They
said that wearing the hijab was an ostentatious sign! O
ignorance! How ostentatious and ostentatious these remarks
are! O pettiness! What more dishonorable word than to say
that it would be enough to wear a headband instead of a
"veil"! A statement perverted by the greed of Parisian lucre,
which can only be the product of a conscience drowned in
cowardice and pettiness! "Those who take the unbelievers
instead of the believers as their allies, is it power they
seek from them? W h e n in truth, power belongs

- 10 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

• Moreover, the hijab is proof that the sister

who wears it is free from suspicion; just a s
she has signified her refusal of all risks of
harm and temptation; the Most High says

entirely to Allâh!" An-Nisê'. V. 139. And the Prophet said:

"Degradation and meanness are inflicted on anyone who
opposes my order. And anyone who tries to resemble a
people is therefore one of them." That's right! The person in
question is head of a theological institute in Paris! A headband
instead of a veil! "What monstrous words come out of their
mouths! What they say is a lie!" El Kahf. V. 5.
Blessed be Allâh! His Words are sharp and do not imply any
ambiguity, here is their interpretation in French: "Et qu'elles
rabattent leurs voiles sur leurs poitrines" An-Noûr. V. 31; and
He also says "O Prophet! Tell your wives, your daughters,
and the women of the believers to cover themselves with
their large veils: [jalâbîb]. "El Ahzêb. V. 59.
People, especially in France, should know with certainty that
these individuals are impostors. Their speech has no religious
weight. "The Day when their tongues, hands and feet will
bear witness against them of what they were doing" An-Noûr.
V. 31. Screaming dervishes in the media! NDT.

- 11 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

"They'll soon recognize it and avoid being

offended." El Ahzêb. V. 59.
• It helps tame carnal instincts,
• It's a sword that cuts through demonic
thoughts!
• It's also social prevention against the
various forms of nuisance thrown at her by
betraying glances, and tongues that damage
women's reputations.
• The hijab also protects modesty: that state
of being rooted in the soul, which
encourages virtue and repels vices.
In truth, if we carefully study the merits and
benefits of the hijab, by reading the texts to
exhaustion, we will certainly conclude that these
benefits are many, varied and very valuable.
In any case, if a woman is decent on the
outside, she's certainly decent on the inside too, as
the saying goes: "plenty of it.

- 12 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

from the heart, the mouth speaks" (every thing

reflects by its appearance what it hides inside)."
This is w h y Allâh has made the garment of
piety a garment that covers both body and spirit.
Allâh - Exalted be He - says on this subject: "O
children of Adam! We have sent down a garment
to hide your nakedness, as well as ornaments. -
But the garment of piety, that is better." El Acrâf. V.
26.
Ar-Rahmên Ibn Aslem (may Allâh have
cAbd

mercy on him) explained this verse as follows:

"He (the son of Adam) will fear Allâh piously and
hide his nakedness (his cAwra), this is the
garment of piety."
So now you know, O Muslim sister, the
obligation of putting on the hijab, its merit, its
fruits; you also know that it is truly Allâh's
command and His wish for His sincere servants.
In this sense, Allâh - may He be Most High -
says "And Allâh wants to welcome your repentance.
But

- 13 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

Those who follow the passions want you to incline

greatly (towards turpitude as they do)." An-Nisê'.
V. 27.

This means: those who follow their pleasures

that hold false and low attitudes, who encourage
fornication to excess and libertinism as well as
other actions that Allâh has forbidden, want you
to deviate from the true path and overstep the acts
that Allâh has allowed you so that you fall into
His disobedience! They want to see you like them
in your pursuit of illicit passions and sins!
This is why Allâh has described them
according to their blameworthy passions and
unfortunate behavior.
The poet speaks the truth in declamation!

Don't be fooled by certain people who

encourage you to deviate from
guidance!

- 14 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

They were given no assistance to follow the

truth!
Blind hearts! From their guide, they all
diverted,
For they have all disbelieved in Allâh by imitating
their elders!

Finally, it does not escape me to thank the

virtuous brother, Professor Aboû Fahîma cAbd Ar-
Rahmên El Bidjê'î, for the attention he pays to
this kind of epistles dealing with these issues; and
this, in a time when many problems are raised
concerning the subject of the hijab which is an
Islamic cult and not a custom that can be
subjected to unscrupulous dealings!
Certainly, what follows is an epistle with
strong arguments at the antipodes of the arrogant
slanders and rumors, directed by the advocates
o f vileness! Those who call for unveiling,
nudity and debauchery.

- 15 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

I therefore thank him for this faithful

translation; and it is to Allâh that we ask to
make his writings accurate and his translations
conform.

WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

PREFACE TO THE SECOND EDITION

NOTICE TO READERS

L Praise be to Allâh who has completed the

religions with the religion of
righteousness, and revealed the Qur'ên and
Sunnah for guidance.
man and woman to success. And may prayer and
salvation be upon the ultimate Prophet and
Messenger; the guide of mankind on the path of
truth: Mohammed Ibn cAbd Allâh; as well as
upon his pious wives, his noble family and his
honorable and praiseworthy Companions.
We'd like to make it clear that translating
Islamic works is only a temporary means of
understanding Islam. The fruit of this is only
proportional and very limited!

- 17 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

Good learning cannot be effectively achieved

without Arabic. Other languages, being transitory,
can never replace it.
The experience of any French or French-
speaking reader is proof enough.
Having said that, it's clear that learning Arabic is
the first step for every non-Arabic-speaking
Muslim. For it is the central pivot in the acquisition
of religious knowledge in Islam, and indeed a great
necessity.
That's why we invite all our French brothers
and sisters to make the effort to learn this
beautiful language, and discover it in all its
grandeur.
Imam Ibn Taymiyya (may Allâh have mercy on
him) said: "Certainly, the Arabic language is the
symbol of Islam and Muslims.

- 18 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

And languages are the most important

symbols by which nations distinguish
themselves from one another. " 2

The eminent Hadîth scholar Ahmed Châkir

(may Allâh have mercy on him) said: "...
Certainly, the nation of the Arabic language with
which the Noble Book (the Qur'ên) was sent
down is duty-bound to spread its religion (Islam).
Likewise, it is incumbent upon it to propagate its
language (Arabic), its customs and its rules of
ethics, among other nations.
By doing so, she will be calling for the
guidance and truth brought by her Prophet
(Muhammad).

single nation, with the same religion, the same
Qibla and the same language.

They will also have the same values (criteria)

that will build its personality. Thus, it will be a
nation of the golden mean3, whose individuals
(Muslims) will be witnesses to people (in the
hereafter).
It is therefore up to anyone wishing to join this
Muslim group to :
• believe in his religion (Islam),
• comply with Sharia law,
• follow his lifestyle,

PREFACE TO THE FIRST EDITION

foundations of purity, righteousness and guidance.

The Lion of Sunnah in our time, Shaykh Al-
Albânî (may Allâh be merciful to him) said in his
famous book6 "Jilbêb El Mar'a El Mouslima (The
Jilbêb of the Muslim Woman)": "We have
carefully studied the Qur'anic verses, the authentic
Sunnah and the texts of the predecessors (Salafs)
which had a bearing on this subject, which is of
great importance. It [thus] appeared to us that the
woman, when she leaves her home, must cover her
body completely, and that she must not wear
anything that is not her own.

5 Khadijah died before this verse was revealed. But every

Muslim knows that she would have been the first to apply it,

revelation. May Allah be pleased with her and all t h e

3. It should be thick, not transparent.
4. Make sure it's wide and not tight-fitting.
5. Let it be unscented.
6. May it not resemble men's clothing.
7. May it not resemble the garments of
miscreants.

is not obligatory. NDC

WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

INTRODUCTION

J e praise Allâh - may He be Most High - as He

should be praised, for the Splendor of His Face,
and the Grandeur of His Sovereignty. And may
Allâh's Peace and Salvation be upon His Noble
Messenger, who has traced the path that leads t o
Allâh's pleasure and to His Paradise. Indeed, this
path of exemplary rectitude is bordered by
dignity, beautifully garnished with noble morals
and adorned with the finery of purity, modesty
and chastity. This path leads the two constituents
of human society, man and woman, to the spheres
of tranquility and bliss.
here below and in the hereafter.
Among [these jewels] is the obligation to wear
the hijab that Allâh - blessed be He - has
instituted for women. This is to protect her
chastity,

- 30 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

to preserve his honor and be proof of his faith.

This is why the society that strays from Allâh's
path, that deviates from His right path, is
[inevitably] a morbid society. It needs a remedy
that will lead it to recovery and happiness.
There are images that prove that such a society
is far from the path of Allâh, and that accurately
demonstrate the intensity of its deviation and
libertinism, the image where we perceive the
expansion of sexual exhibition and unveiling
among the vast majority of young women.
Sadly, we see [nowadays] that this scourge has
become a feature of Muslim society, even though
the wearing of Islamic garb is also widespread.
So what are the causes of this deviance?

- 31 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

To answer this question, we asked different

categories of girls. From this, we discovered the
existence of ten main excuses. But after much
checking, we realized just how inconsistent these
excuses are!
Muslim sister! Let's read these lines together to
learn about the causes that lead us to turn away
from the hijab, and then tackle them one by one.

- 32 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

THE FIRST PRETEXT

The first of them says: "I'm still not convinced that
we should wear the hijab!"

To this sister, we ask two questions:

The first question: is she fundamentally
convinced of the authenticity of Islam?
Obviously, his answer will be: yes! I'm
convinced! Because not only does she say: "Lâ Ilêha
Illa Allâh" (there is no deity worthy of worship
except Allâh), which is accepted as her dogmatic
conviction, but she also says: "Mohammed
Rassoûlou Allâh" (Mohammed is the Messenger of
Allâh), which is accepted as her dogmatic
conviction. And she also says: "Mohammed
Rassoûlou Allâh" (Mohammed is the Messenger of
Allâh), which is accepted as her recognition of the
Charî'a [Islamic legislation]. In short, we conclude
that she is convinced of Islam by espousing its belief
- 33 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!
[El 'Aqîda], its legislation, and its way of life.

- 34 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

The second question: is the hijab part o f

Islamic legislation and its obligations?
If this sister is truly sincere, and seeks to
know the truth as one who truly seeks it, she
will certainly say: yes, the hijab is part of Allâh's
legislation and obligations.
Allâh, to Whom she devotes her worship, has
indeed commanded women in His Book to wear the
hijab. Likewise, the noble Messenger, whose
message she believes in, has also commanded her to
wear the hijab in His Sunnah. Allâh - The Most
High - says: "And do not flaunt yourselves after
the manner of women before Islam." El Ehzêb. V.
33
So what do you call a person who is convinced
of the authenticity of Islam, but does not apply
what Allâh - the Most High - and His Noble
Messenger (commanded) him to do?
In any c a s e , this person is not one of those
described by Allâh in this verse: "The only
response of the believers, when called upon

- 35 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

to Allâh and His Messenger, for the latter to

judge between them, is to say, "We have heard
and we have obeyed!" These are the successful
ones." An-Noûr. V. 51.
In short, if this sister is truly convinced of
Islam, how could she n o t b e convinced of
its commandments?!

- 36 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

THE SECOND PRETEXT

The second sister says: "I am convinced of the
obligation to wear the legal garment [the hijab],
but my mother forbids me to put it on. And if I
disobey her, I will be doomed to the Fire [of
Hell]!"

The most noble of Allâh's creatures, Allâh's

Messenger, responds to the excuse raised by this
sister with a concise and wise word:
"No obedience to a creature when there is
disobedience to the Creator."
Without the slightest doubt, the place of
parents in Islam, and in particular that of the
mother, is very high. Indeed, Allâh has linked the
place accorded to parents to the most important of
works, which is His worship and [the realization]
of His Oneness (Tawhîd). This is stipulated in
several verses of the Qur'ên, including this one
where Allâh - the Most High - says: "And
- 37 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!
worship Allâh and do not

- 38 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

associate nothing and be good to your parents."

An-Nisê'. V. 36.

Thus, nothing limits obedience to parents except

one thing, namely disobedience to Allâh. The Most
High says: "And if they compel you to associate
deities with Me of which you have no knowledge,
do not obey them." Louqmên. V.15.
And disobeying them with regard to a sin in no
way prevents charity towards them and filial piety.
Allâh - the Most High - says: "but continue to
obey them daily in what is proper." Louqmên. V. 15
In short, how can you obey your mother and
disobey Allâh who created you and your own
mother?!

- 39 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

THE THIRD PRETEXT

As for the third sister, she says, "my financial
capacity doesn't allow me to change my clothes
for new ones that conform t o Islam!"

Our sister falls into one of two categories:

• It is either truthful and sincere,
• or she's a liar, shirking the legal hijab in
favor of an immodest9 , garishly colored,
fashionable and very expensive hijab.

9 I .e.actually unveiled and not conforming to Islam by

being too short, not thick enough, transparent, too showy,
too open, etc. NDT

- 40 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

1) we start with our sincere and truthful

sister:
Dear sister! Do you know that under no
circumstances is a Muslim woman allowed to
leave her home until her garment meets the
recognized conditions of the legal hijab (charcî)?
Every Muslim woman must be aware of these
conditions!10
To learn the things of everyday life, you do it
easily, so how can you not learn the things that will
save you from Allâh's punishment as well as His
Wrath after death! Didn't Allâh - The Most High -
say, "So ask the people of reminder [the scholars]
if you don't know." An- Nahl. V. 43. So my sister!
Learn the conditions of hijab.

10 Carefullyread the eight conditions cited in the preface to the

second edition. EDITOR'S NOTE

- 41 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

If you absolutely must leave your home, then

do so only if the conditions for legal hijab are
met. Do this to please the Most Merciful and
humiliate the devil.
This is because the harm of your going out
unveiled and unclothed is greater than the benefit
of your going out for [any] necessity.
My sister! If your intention is sincere and your
resolution true, know that countless people will
come to your aid, and Allâh will make things easier
for you. Is it not He who says: "Whoever fears
Allâh, He will give him a favorable outcome. And
will grant him his sustenance in an unhoped-for
way." At-Talâq. V. 2-3
2) As for our sister who wants to escape [the
hijab obligation], we say to her:
Dignity and high esteem in the sight of Allâh -
The Most High - are not manifested in
embroidered garments, flashy colors, or in
conforming to contemporary dress fashions.
Rather, they are manifested solely i n
obedience to
- 42 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

Allâh and His Messenger by practicing pure

Islamic legislation and wearing the authentic
Islamic hijab. Read [my sister] the Word of Allâh
- The Most High -
"Surely the noblest of you with Allâh is the most
pious." El Houjourât. V. 13
In short, to acquire Allâh's pleasure and His
paradise, anything dear and precious to us (a
loved one or a material possession) loses its value
and enjoys little consideration...

- 43 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

THE FOURTH PRETEXT

The fourth sister says: "In my country, the
climate is very hot and I can't stand it. How
could I stand it if I a l s o wore the hijab?"

To people like this, Allâh - the Most High - says:

"Say, "The fire of Hell is fiercer still!" If only
they understood!" At Tawba. V. 81.
How can you compare the heat of your country
with that of Gehenna! Know - my honorable sister
- that Satan has cast you one of his vulnerable
nets to lead you from the warmth of this life to
that of Hellfire. Save yourself from his trap!
Therefore, consider the heat of the sun as a
blessing and not a harm, knowing that it reminds
you of the severity of Allâh's -The Most-
punishment.

- 44 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

High - many degrees hotter than the earth.

From t h e n on, you will [certainly] surrender t o
Allâh's command and sacrifice the ease of this world
for the sake of your salvation in the Hereafter by
protecting yourself from the Fire. This fire whose
inhabitants have been described by the Most High in
this verse: "They will taste neither freshness nor
drink. Except boiling water and pus." An-Naba'. V.
24-25
In short, Paradise is strewn with difficulties
(he who overcomes them gets in) and Hell is
littered with passions (he who succumbs to
them gets in)...

- 45 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

THE FIFTH PRETEXT

Let's hear the fifth sister's excuse: "I'm afraid if
I wear the hijab assiduously, I'll take it off later.
I've seen a lot of girls do that!"

To this one, I'll say: "If all the people adopted

the same reasoning as you, they would have given
up the whole religion. They would have given up
prayer, because some are afraid to give it up.
They would also have abstained from fasting,
because many are afraid to break it, etc."
Have you seen [my sister] how the devil has
once again cast one of his nets over you and
prevented you from following the path of
guidance! Allâh
- the Exalted - likes his servant to persist in the
practice of good deeds even if these

- 46 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

are few in number or only recommended. What if

these good deeds are obligatory, as is the case
with the hijab?
Allâh's Messenger said, "The best work with
Allâh is that which is performed continuously,
however small it may be!"
Why didn't you find out what caused these
sisters to take off their hijab, so that you could
distance yourself from them and work to avoid
them?
Why did you not look for the causes that
strengthen the person on the path of guidance and
truth and cling to them [i.e. the causes]?
Among these causes: frequently invoking Allâh
so that He may strengthen your heart in religion,
as the Prophet did.
. There is also prayer and humility: Allâh
- the Most High - says: "And seek help in
endurance and prayer: certainly, prayer is a
heavy obligation, except for the humble." El
Baqara. V. 45

- 47 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

Another of these causes is the observance of all

the practices prescribed by Islam, including the
hijab. Allâh - the Most High - says: "If they had
done what they were exhorted to do, it would
certainly have been better for them, and it would
have strengthened them." An-Nisâ'. V. 66
In short, if you had grasped the causes that
lead [by Allâh's permission] to guidance and if
you had tasted the sweetness of faith, you
would not have abandoned Allâh's orders after
putting them into practice...

- 48 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

THE SIXTH PRETEXT

What pretext does the sixth sister offer? She
says: "I've been told that if I put on the hijab no
man will want to marry me! Because o f that,
I'm going to refrain from wearing it until I get
married!"

A husband who wishes to see you unveiled and

disobedient to Allâh is not worthy of marrying
you. This kind of man is indifferent to the
prohibitions of Allâh that are committed, and this
kind of man does not care about you or show the
slightest interest in you. Such a husband will not
help you enter Paradise and save you from the
Fire.
A home built from day one on the transgression
of Allâh and on acts that incur His Wrath is a
home that deserves misfortune and sorrow here on
earth and in the Hereafter. In accordance with the
words o f Allâh - the Most High
- 49 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

High: "And whoever turns away from My

Reminder, will certainly lead a life full o f genes,
and on the Day of Resurrection we will bring him
to the gathering, blind." Tâha. V. 124
What's more, marriage is undoubtedly a favor
from Allâh that He gives to whomever He
pleases. How many veiled girls married without
any difficulty! And how many non-veiled girls
remained single!
On the other hand, if you say to yourself, "My
unveiling and coquetry is a means to a noble end,
which is marriage." [I say to you]: "In Islam, a
noble goal in no way justifies illicit means to
achieve it. If a goal is noble, the means to achieve
it must necessarily be noble too.
This is because an Islamic rule from the
foundations of jurisprudence states: "The

- 50 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

means have the same legal status as ends. "11

In short, We ask Allâh not to bless a
marriage based on disobedience and
immorality!

11 This means that if the end is obligatory, so is the means

to achieve it, as long as the means is lawful, and conversely,
if the end is forbidden, so is the means to achieve it, even if
it is lawful. This golden rule is just one of countless enjoyed
by our religion. The lucid reader will understand the
difference it makes with the Machiavellian postulate that
"the end justifies the means!" Islam draws the Muslim's
attention to the "quality" of the end. If the end is bad, he will
not use means to make it lawful, but will avoid it. Whereas
the motto :
The "end justifies the means" principle drives its proponent
to use any means to achieve its ends, even if both are
wrong. Reality proves these facts! NDT

- 51 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

THE SEVENTH PRETEXT

What will you say, O seventh sister! She says: "I
don't wear the hijab because Allâh says: 'And as
for the blessings of your Lord, share them with
others', and how then shall I hide my beautiful
hair and alluring beauty that Allâh has given
me?!"

Dear sister! I see that you only follow Allâh's

Book and His orders when they do not contradict
your passion and understanding! Otherwise, when
those same orders displease you, you abandon
them!
Otherwise, why don' t you apply yourself in the
realization of His Word: "And show of their
beauties only what appears of them". An-Noûr. V.
31, as well as in the practice of His Word: "O
Prophet! Tell your wives, your

- 52 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

daughters, and the wives of believers to cover

themselves with their Jalêbîb "12. El Ahzêb. V. 59.

12 Important note: It's important to point out in passing a

widespread misconception circulated by a few people hostile to
modesty and virtue. Some claim that the jilbêb does not exist
in Islam! Others say it's a sign of archaism
(b a c k w a r d n e s s or retrograde thinking)!
To answer the first category of these individuals, who are
basically ignorant of the truth of Islam, the aforementioned
verse is enough for them. In fact, this is why we have
chosen not to translate the Arabic word jilbêb. A person
who is interested in his religion, and therefore necessarily in
its language: Arabic, should be well aware of the meaning
of the word in question (jilbêb).
But now, in addition to their ignorance of Islam, their
ignorance of the Arabic language makes t h e jilbeb issue even
more complex - for them. However, once they have learned of
the existence of this verse and its meaning, they will then be
informed of the seriousness of their error, and of their
defamatory accusations against virtuous sisters who adorn
themselves in the garb of greatness: the jilbêb. This is because
these hateful individuals call them all sorts of contemptuous
names. But Allâh says: ((And those who

- 53 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

offend the believing men and believing women without

their having deserved it, burden themselves [certainly]
with a slander and an obvious sin)). El Ahzêb. 58. The
second category, which is the one we are most interested in,
is generally made up of a few perplexed people who have
lost their religious bearings. The purity of Islam weighs too
heavily on their hearts. They want to change the mores of
decency and exemplary practices for "the habits of the
discarded".
(The word rebut means: that which is rejected, left aside,
considered worthless). Synonyms: déchet, lie, ordure,
résidu, etc. cf. " Dictionnaire des synonymes : Hachette.
And, Dictionnaire des synonymes de la langue française ;
Pierre Ripert". Whereas the word (la) lie (which is among
the synonyms of rebut) means, according to Larousse: what
is worst, vilest in a society.
Without a doubt Allâh - Purity be to Him - has rejected,
and disapproved of, even forbidden unveiling. The Qur'an
and Sunnah attest to this. There is only a person with a sick
heart who does not admit this truth).
These are men and women who conceal a monstrous
hatred for Islam. They would like to see one day the
Muslim woman, to whom Islam has restored value and
honor (which the colonial bully took away from her),
drown in Western exhibitionism. These pro-Westerners,
blinded by the neglect of religious practices and the
- 54 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

For, by the words you have spoken, dear sister!

You have allowed yourself to legislate what Allâh
has rightly forbidden: the unveiling and display of
your beauty. The reason is that you don't want to
apply yourself to religion.

followed by their passions are enemies of Muslim female

purity. They want to laugh at the Muslim woman as they
have laughed, and are still laughing, at the unbelieving
woman. In reality, the archaism lies not in covering up, but
quite the opposite, in uncovering oneself like the
"Amazon primitives". So we know - perfectly well - that
the archaic, par excellence, are those who encourage this
unveiled mode. Finally, we mention a strong command by
which Allâh - Exalted be He - has reminded humans to be
on their guard. Let us hope that some consciences will
awaken and realize this enormous matter. Our Creator says:
((O children of Adam! May the Devil not tempt you, as
he took your father and mother out of Paradise, tearing
off their garments to expose their nakedness)). El Acrâf. 27.
And ((If then they turn their backs... then Allâh knows
well the sowers of corruption.)). Êl cImrân. 63. Finally, it is
Allâh who holds the guidance of hearts! NDT

- 55 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

The greatest favor Allâh has bestowed upon

us is that of faith and guidance. So why didn't
you highlight this and why didn't you mention
this important grace that Allâh has bestowed
upon you, of which the hijab is a part?!
In short, is there any greater benefit for
women than that of guidance and hijab?!

- 56 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

THE EIGHTH PRETEXT

Now we come to our eighth sister, who says: "I
know that the hijab is obligatory, but I'll put it
on when Allâh has guided me!"13

13 This is a very serious statement, because this sister justifies

her unveiling by Allâh's destiny. W h a t she says is
t a n t a m o u n t to saying, "I don't wear the hijab, because
Allâh has not yet guided me!" This word and this way are
those of the disbelievers who justify their polytheism by
Allâh's will! Allâh says, warning against this satanic path:
"The polytheists will say: 'If Allâh had willed, neither we
nor our ancestors would have been polytheists, nor would
we have declared anything forbidden." This is how their
predecessors called the messengers liars until they tasted
Our rigor. Say: "Have you any science to present to us? All
you do is follow conjecture and lie". Al-A'âm, V.148. All things
are predestined, but our sister's words were not spoken out of
sadness or regret, but to justify her act, and this is
reprehensible in Islam. The believer does not justify his evil
deeds by destiny, for this leads him to perdition and
persistence in his misguidance. On the other hand,

- 57 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

We ask this sister about the steps she took to

become deserving of divine guidance? We
certainly know that Allâh - The Most High -, by
His Wisdom, has made everything have a cause
[that leads to its realization].
That's why the sick person has to take medicine
to get better. Similarly, the traveler uses his car or
rides an animal to reach his destination. There are
so many examples that it's impossible to count
them all.
Did our sister then work firmly in the search
for guidance? Did she provide the necessary
causes [efforts]?

justifying a catastrophe or misfortune by fate is permissible,

because it is not something chosen by the person, but
suffered. For example, when one loses a child or is afflicted
by an incurable disease, it is fair to say that this is Allâh's
fate, I accept it and I thank Him in any case... NDC

- 58 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

Among these causes :

• The invocation of Allâh - the Most High -
while being sincere, as t h e Exalted One
says: "Guide us to the right path". El
Fâtiha.V, 6.

• She will endeavor to associate with pious

women, for they are a better support for
obtaining guidance and remaining in it, so
that Allâh may guide her, increase her
guidance, inspire her with righteousness
and reverential fear.
• After that, she will devote herself to
carrying out the Commandments of the
Most High, and to putting on the hijab that
Allâh has ordained for believing women.
In short, if this sister had been truly firm and
resolute in her search for guidance, she would
have undertaken the causes for it, and thus
surely achieved it...

- 59 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

THE NINTH PRETEXT

What does the ninth sister say? She says: "The
time has not yet come for me to wear the hijab
because I am still very young! I'll wear it when
I'm older or after I've completed the Hajj!"

My dear sister! The Angel of Death is a visitor

who stands on your doorstep waiting for the
command of Allâh - the Most High - to take your
soul at any moment. - The Most High - says:
"When their term [death] comes, they cannot
delay it b y an hour, nor can they bring it
forward." El A'râf. V. 34
Dear sister! Death does not distinguish between
the old and the young. Death may come to you
while you are in that state of great disobedience;
that of fighting the Lord of

- 60 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

Power by revealing yourself and your beauty.

O my sister! Hasten to obedience with those who
hasten in response to the call o f Allâh - the Most
High: "Hasten to a pardon from your Lord as
well as a paradise as wide as the heavens and the
earth." Al-Hadîd. V. 21
O my sister! Do not forget Allâh - the Most
High - otherwise He will abandon you by
distancing you from His Mercy in the present life
as well as in the Hereafter and by making you
forget your own person by not giving it its right
(to the person) of obedience to Allâh and of His
worship.
Allâh - The Exalted - says about the hypocrites,
"They have forgotten Allâh and He has then
forsaken them." At-Tawba. V. 67
And also says: "And do not be like those who
have forgotten Allâh; [Allâh] then made them
forget their own persons. These are the perverse
ones." El Hachr. V. 19

- 61 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

My sister! Even if you're still young, keep

away from all disobedience, including leaving the
hijab on, for Allâh is harsh in punishment. Indeed,
on the Day of Judgment, He will question you
about your youth and every moment of your life.
In short: How blind the hope of living a long
life is! How can you guarantee even tomorrow to
be alive!

- 62 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

THE TENTH PRETEXT

Finally, the tenth says: "I'm afraid that if I apply
myself to putting on the Islamic garment that I'll
be attributed the name of a specific group, and I
hate partisan spirit!"

O sister in Islam! There are only two parties in

Islam, no more. Allâh the Immense has mentioned
them in His Noble Book:
1. The first party is that of Allâh, whom Allâh
causes to triumph because His followers
obey His commands, and steer clear of
disobedience.
2. The second party is the devil, the stoned one,
who disobeys the Most Merciful, and
multiplies corruption on earth.
You, when you carry out Allâh's orders and
through them the hijab, you affiliate yourself with
the party
- 63 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

of Allâh whose members are those who reap

success.
Conversely, when you take off your clothes,
showing off your finery and revealing your
charms, then you're boarding the boat of the devil
and his allies among the hypocrites and
disbelievers, and what bad company you'll be in!
14

Do you see how you flee from Allâh to join

Satan?! Do you see how you change the good for
the bad?! Flee then my sister to Allâh and put into
practice His prescriptions: "Flee then to Allâh. I
am for you, from Him, an explicit warner."
Adh-Dhâriyât. V. 50

14 And this is how the preachers of libertinism who

attack the honor of the Muslim woman wish to see you.
They know full well that you are the main cell in the fabric
of society. Your moral dissolution will lead to the
destruction of the educational values of the community and
of individuals. O Muslim sister! Beware of the
executioners of virtue: all those who call you out of your
nature to transform you into an object of pleasure and
enjoyment, if only by the glance. NDT

- 64 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

The hijab is a highly honorable form of

worship. This worship does not bend to people's
opinions, orientations or choices! Indeed, the One
who legislated it is indeed The Creator, The Wise.
In short, to please Allâh - the Most High, to
hope for His clemency and to win His paradise,
pay no heed to the words of devils, be they
human or jinn!15 Cling scrupulously to
religion. Take as your model the mothers of the
believers (wives of the Prophet), the
companions (wives of the companions) who
were learned and who fought on the right
path...

15 Yourunveiling is their first ploy to achieve their ends.

Block their way! NDT

WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

APPENDIX
OTHER COMMON PRETEXTS16

This article completes the ten pretexts

mentioned above. Here are some new excuses
from our sisters who don't wear the hijab...

MAY ALLÂH GUIDE US ALL TO THE

PATH OF PARADISE!

16The appendix is not part of the original text written by the

author Houwayda Ismaïl, but this addition is that of the
proofreader, Abu Hamza Al-Germâny. We have deemed it
useful to add a few other pretexts heard here and there,
particularly in France and the West, in the knowledge that
the author may have omitted some of these pretexts as he
does not live in the West. NDC

- 66 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

THE ELEVENTH PRETEXT

The eleventh sister said: "Me al-hamdoulillah, I
don't steal, I don't lie... I don't think it's that
serious not to put on the hijab! It's better to be
like me than to put on the hijab and at the same
time lie, slander, steal like I know! And besides,
don't they say that religion is all about
behavior?"

Dear sister! Meditate on this word of Allâh: "O

you believers! Enter fully into Islam, and do not
follow in the footsteps of the devil, for he is a
declared enemy to you." Al-Baqara, V.208
And ponder also this one, may Allâh make
your heart bloom: "Are you going to believe in
part of the Book and reject part of it? Those of
you who do so deserve only humiliation in this
life, and on the Day of Resurrection, they will
be led to the harshest

- 67 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

punishment, and Allâh is not inattentive to what

you do. 86. These are those who exchange the
present life for the future life." Al-Baqara, V.85-86
Dear sister! These verses clearly show you that
it is a Muslim's duty to follow all the obligatory
precepts of Islam. Acknowledging your sin is
better for you than shamelessly declaring that
neglecting one of Allâh's obligations is no big
deal! You think it's insignificant, whereas for
Allâh it's enormous! And even if you claim that
it's not so serious (which it isn't), then don't
consider the smallness of the sin, but the greatness
of the One you've disobeyed!
Dear sister! All that's left for you to do is follow
this recommendation from Allâh, for this
recommendation is an obligation: "Also tell the
believing women to lower their gaze, preserve
their chastity, and show of their beauty only what
appears of it. Let them draw down their veils
over their breasts..." An-Noûr. V. 51.

- 68 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

In short, it's not honest to condemn the

behavior of some veiled sisters by claiming that
they lie or slander when our own behavior may
be more to be pitied. So we advise this person to
look at these sins before those of others, therein
lies the key to success:

Start with yourself, by forbidding your deviation,

If it ceases to be deflected, you are certainly gifted
w i t h reason.

At that moment, your word will be accepted and

you'll be an example.
What you say will be taken into account, and
your teaching will be of use.

Do not forbid behavior that you yourself commit,

Shame on you for doing what you yourself
condemned.

- 69 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

THE TWELFTH PRETEXT

The twelfth sister says, "The veil like faith, it's
in the heart!"

Dear sister in Allâh! Meditate on this word of

Allâh and consider the purpose for which we were
created:
"He who created death and life in order t o
test you as to which of you is better in deeds." Al-
Mulk, V.2

Which of you is the best in deeds! Works

play a vital role in the life of the sincere Muslim.
Often in the Koran, you'll find faith linked to
works, for they are inseparable. Allâh says: "By
Time! 2. Surely, man runs to his doom, 3.
except those who believe and do good deeds,
commend to themselves the truth and
commend to themselves endurance." Al-Asr, V.1-
3

- 70 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

Allâh also says: "Surely, those who believe and

do good deeds will dwell in the Gardens of
Paradise, 108. Where they will dwell forever,
desiring no change." Al-Kahf, V.107 & 108
The reason we're here on earth is to prove our
faith, to prove our love and submission to Allâh.
But how do we prove it? With our actions! It's
all very well to say to someone: "I love you", but
if your actions don't follow, they'll soon realize
that it's all a lie...
The Prophet said, "All my community will
return to Paradise except the one who doesn't
want to." It was then said to him, "O Messenger
of Allâh, who then would not want to return to
Paradise!" He replied, "Whoever obeys me will
enter Paradise, and whoever disobeys me does
not want to enter Paradise." Reported by Boukhâry.
Righteousness in religion is expressed by inner
and outer obedience. Faith is proclaimed by heart,
tongue and deeds.

- 71 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

To say that faith and religion are only a matter of

the heart is false and leads to misguidance.
Your love for Allâh must be proven every day
by your submission, humility and love, which are
the pillars of worship.
He is mentioned in a poem:
Disobedient to God, you greedily pretend to
love him,
This behavior, I swear, is very bad reasoning!
/If your love was sincere, you would certainly
have obeyed him,
The loving person, of course, obeys the person
he or she cherishes.

In short, it's fair to say, dear sister, that

faith is that which is firmly anchored in the
heart and proven by deeds, of which the hijab
is one...

- 72 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

THE THIRTEENTH PRETEXT

The thirteenth sister says: "I'd like to wear the
hijab, but I can't help it, I love my freedom and
independence too much, and for that I have to
work, and in France no one wants veiled women
at work! And first of all, don't they say, "work is
worship!"

Dear sister, meditate on these magnificent words

of Allâh, which show you how the sincere Muslim
should view the life o f this world: "Know that the
present life is but play, amusement, vain
adornment, a proud competition between you
and a rivalry in the acquisition of wealth and
children. It is like rain that makes vegetation
grow, marvelling the cultivators; then it fades
and you see it yellow; then it becomes dust. And
in the Hereafter, there is a harsh punishment,
and also forgiveness and pleasure from Allâh.
And life

- 73 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

The present is but deceptive enjoyment." Al-

Hadid, V.20

Freedom is not a virtue when it leads you to

Allâh's disobedience! After this verse Allâh gives
you the free choice to follow, in the hope that you
will be one of those who, when they listen to what
is said, follow the best of it. These are the ones
Allâh has guided, and they are the ones gifted
with intelligence!
So Allâh says: "Hasten to a pardon from your
Lord and a Paradise as wide as the heavens and
the earth, prepared for those who believe in
Allâh and His Messengers. Such is the grace of
Allâh that He gives to whom He wills. And Allâh
is the Owner of immense grace." Al-Hadid, V.21
May our sisters in this situation know that
"Allâh's promise is truth. So let not this present
life deceive you, and let not the Deceiver (Satan)
mislead you about Allâh!" Louqman, V.33

- 74 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

According to Abu Hourayra, the Prophet said:

"Woe to the slave of the dinar, the dirham and
expensive clothes!" (Reported by Al-Bukhâri)
As for the phrase that's being thrown around:
"work is worship", it doesn't come from either the
Koran or the Sunnah, and it's really laughable! If
work, which in itself is an honorable thing,
prevents you from worshipping your Creator,
then try to find another job where you'll be
respected for what you are, and where you'll be
able to dress in the pure, modest garb of Islam.
If you can't find one, ask your husband to
provide for you - it's your right as a wife!
Nevertheless, know that despite everything,
your home is better for you, my beloved sister!
Allâh your Lord and Creator says: "Stay in your
homes, and don't show off like the women of
the first period of ignorance. Perform prayer,
pay Zakât and obey Allâh and His
Messenger." Al-Ahzab, V.33

- 75 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

In short, true freedom and independence are

those we acquire by freeing ourselves from our
passions and unhealthy desires...

- 76 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

THE FOURTEENTH PRETEXT

The fourteenth sister says: "It's too late! I've been
too delirious... Allâh will never forgive me!"

Dear sister, we are convinced of your sincerity,

but meditate on what Allâh your Creator says:
"Say: "O My servants who have committed
excesses to your own detriment, do not despair of
Allâh's mercy. For Allâh forgives all sins. Yes, He
is the Forgiver, the Most Merciful. And return
repentant to your Lord, and submit to Him,
before the chastisement comes to you, and then
you will receive no help. 55. And follow the best
revelation sent down to you from your Lord,
before the chastisement comes to you suddenly
and unexpectedly. 56. So that n o soul may say:
"Woe to me for my shortcomings!

- 77 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

towards Allâh, for I was certainly among the

mockers." 57. Or that she should say, "If Allâh
had guided me, I would certainly have been
among the pious." 58. Or when she sees the
punishment, she may say: "Ah, if only I could
return to this world! Then I would be among the
beneficent." 59. Yes, you would! My verses came
to thee, and then thou didst treat them as lies;
thou wast puffed up with pride and wast among
the disbelievers. 60. And on the Day of
Resurrection, you will see the faces of those who
lied about Allâh, darkened. Is it not in Hell that
there will be an abode for the proud? 61. And
Allâh will spare those who have been pious,
rewarding them. No evil will touch them and they
will not be afflicted." Az- Zumar, V.53-62
Meditate also on what your Messenger says:
"Allâh exalted stretches out His Hand at night to
accept the repentance of the daytime sinner and
by day to accept the repentance of the nighttime
sinner; and this, until the sun rises from the
West." (Reported by Muslim)

- 78 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

Everyone sins, especially when the

environment around us is bad and pushes you to
disobey Allâh. Your case is not the only one, but
above all, never despair, and be part of those who
know how to stop one day and get back on the
road to success and piety!
In short, if Allâh and His Messenger tell you
that it's not too late, how can you believe that
Allâh will never forgive you! Question yourself
and return to Allâh now, without delay! May
Allâh preserve you from all evil, dear beloved
sister!

- 79 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

THE FIFTEENTH PRETEXT

The fifteenth sister says: "The hijab isn't for me,
I look too ugly in it! And people's looks mean a
lot to me!"

Dear sister! It's true that beauty is praised in

Islam. The Prophet says: "Allâh is beautiful and
He loves beauty." (Reported by Mouslim)
But in Islam, the beauty that is praised is that
which is for Allâh and not to appear beautiful in
front of others and to be proud of oneself! Hence,
the ugliest in our eyes on earth can be the most
beautiful in Allâh's sight, if He is pleased with
her!
Beauty must help us obey Allâh and fulfill His
orders. Blamable beauty is that which is
submissive to this world, for reasons of power,
false pride and to show off, or to fulfill some
unhealthy desires. This also includes cases where
- 80 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!
beauty is an end in itself for a person.

- 81 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

and is all a person cares about. Many people have

no other concerns in life. This life and this person
are not to be envied! Only Islam, the religion of
the golden mean, allows a woman to show off her
finery and charms to her husband, and allows a
woman to reveal herself to her immediate family
(grandfathers, brothers, uncles, etc.).
Allâh must be worshipped by means of the
beauty He loves in words, deeds and attitudes, not
artificial beauty that has nothing to do with faith...
A poetess says:
To prefer "appearing" to "being" is insane!
It's proof of a dehumanized void...

What must count is inner beauty, which shines

through in deeds and relieves unhappiness!

Islam asks us to purify our hearts, to make the

effort of inner jihad.

Ineffable yet eternal beauty

- 82 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

Exists only in the gardens o f Eden

So let us be slaves to the Perfect Creator,

rather than slaves to the outer image...
What are you afraid of, sister? Mockery! To be
laughed at! Insults! Meditate on these verses and
take your pain in patience and trust in Allâh who
does not make vain the works of the believing and
virtuous:
Allâh says, referring to the story of our Prophet
Noah (peace be upon him): "And he built the ark.
Whenever the nobles of his people passed by,
they laughed at him. Noah said: "If you mock us,
then we will mock you, just as you are doing now.
39. And soon you will know who will be touched
by a chastisement that will humble him, and on
whom a lasting punishment will fall!"" Houd, V.39-
40

Allâh says referring to the poverty of the

polytheists at the time of our Prophet Muhammad:
"The criminals mocked the believers. 30. When
they passed by them, they would

- 83 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

mimics. 31. When they returned home, they were

happy with their misdeed. 32. And when they saw
them, they would say, "These are truly
misguided!" 33. But they were not sent to be
their guardians. 34. On the Day of Resurrection,
it is the believers who will mock the unbelievers,
35. On the couches, they will contemplate their
Lord and His benefits. 36. Were the unbelievers
rewarded for what they did?"
In short, dear sister, mockery is nothing
new. The Koran often mentions the verbal
outrages suffered by Allâh's Messenger.
Among the ordeals he endured were all kinds
of mockery, derision and unhealthy,
misleading descriptions aimed at denigrating
his message and the believers who followed
him. Indeed, his people called him a liar, a
forger, a poet, a sorcerer, a soothsayer, a
madman, a bewitched man, a disinherited
man... They called those who followed him
wretched and simple-minded, and mocked
them unfairly. Today, this mocking sibling has
not been forgotten.

- 84 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

contemporaries cultivate the same derision as

their ancestors, a common heritage is passed
down from father to son...
"How many prophets did we send to the
elders! Not a prophet came to them without their
mocking." Az-Zukhruf v.6-7

WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

THE SIXTEENTH PRETEXT

The sixteenth and last sister says: "Why should I
wear the hijab when most Muslim women don't!
Just like in a democracy, I'm the majority!"

We tell our sister that truth is not subject to the

many! If in order to know the truth and reach it,
or even come close to it, we had to base ourselves
on the majority, then the whole world would be
doomed to perdition! Certainly, he who blindly
follows the majority sinks into mediocrity.
Would the hijab itself become obsolete because
most Muslim women don't wear it?! What a huge
injustice! And what enormous ignorance! The
truth does not always conform to t h e opinion
of the

- 86 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

majority. To believe this is to go against the

Koran and common sense...
Meditate then on what Allâh says about the
majority: "Surely, I have forsaken the religion of
a people who disbelieve in Allâh and deny the
future life. 38. And I have followed the religion of
my ancestors, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. It is
not fitting for us to associate anything with Allâh
in worship. This is a grace Allâh has bestowed on
us and on people, but most are not grateful."
Yusuf, V.37-38

But also: "If you obey the majority of the

inhabitants of the earth, they will lead you
astray from the path of Allâh. They only follow
suppositions and invent lies. 117. Surely your
Lord knows better than anyone who strays
from His path, and He knows best those who
are guided." An'âm, V.116-117
But also: "And most people - despite your
ardent desire - do not believe." Yusuf, V.103
So may Allâh praise the minority over the truth:
" " O family of David! Be - by your deeds -

- 87 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

grateful!" Yet few of My servants are grateful."

Sabaa, V.13

You're still not convinced! Meditate on this verse

then: "And without Allâh's grace upon you and
His mercy, you would have followed the Devil,
except for a few." An-Nissê, V.83
After a few verses Allâh says: "And most of
them do not believe in Allâh, except by
associating other deities with Him." Yusuf, V.106
Follow your Lord's commandments and do not
look at quantity, for it leads astray more than it
guides. Do not be like those people described by
your Lord: "Or do you think that most of them
hear or understand? Rather, they are
comparable to cattle, and are even more
misguided." Al- Fourqane, V.44
The great sage Al-Fudayl Ibn Iyyad said
something apt on this subject: "Follow the path of
guidance, and do not be deceived by the small
number of those who take this path! Beware of the
ways of

- 88 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

and do not be seduced by the great number of the

damned!"
In short, the many prove nothing, only the
truth is to be taken, even if you're the only one to
grasp it! Doesn't truth emanate from heavenly
revelation? Isn't truth the most likely to be
followed?
The truth is, for the Muslim, dearer than his
person! Didn't our pious ancestors say that
consensus (which logically implies a large
number) is to hold on to the truth even if
you're the only one who has it!
Allâh says: "Surely, We have brought you the
truth; but most of you hate the truth." Az-Zukhruf,
V.7817

CONCLUSION18

Dear sister! I'm now going to have a frank

discussion with you. Your body is on display in the
devil's market for a l l to see, tempting people's
hearts:
• Visible strands of hair,
• Clothes that are too tight and mold the
shape of your body,
• Clothes that are too short and show off
your legs and feet,
• Beautifully embroidered, brightly colored
and fragrant.

preserve her!
- 90 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

Here is an outfit that provokes the Wrath of the

All-Clement and leads to the satisfaction of
Satan!!!
Every day that passes by persisting in this
behaviour only increases your distance from
Allâh and your closeness to Satan!
Every day that passes, a curse and wrath rise up
in heaven against you until you repent!
Every day you get closer and closer to the grave,
so that the Angel of Death can take your soul:
"Every soul will taste death! But it is only on the
Day of Resurrection that you will receive your
full reward. Whoever is kept out of the Fire and
taken into Paradise has certainly succeeded. And
the present life is but an object of deceptive
enjoyment!" Êl 'Imrân.
V. 185

• Hop on, dear sister, before the penitence train

[At-Tawba] leaves the station!

- 91 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

• Meditate today, my sister! on that famous

Day when your deeds will be exposed [The
Day of Resurrection] without putting it off
until tomorrow!
• Now consider this dreadful Day before it's
too late!

WORDS FROM THE HEART19

Dear sister, if you have decided to wear the
garment prescribed for you by your Lord, always
remember that hijab is above all virtuous
behavior. This behavior must be as exemplary as
possible. Virtue, like a garden adorned with roses,
must be continually watered and strengthened.
Allâh says: "O children of Adam! We have sent
down to you a garment to hide your nakedness,
as well as ornaments. But the garment of piety,
that is better. It is a sign from Allâh, that they
may remember. 27. O children of Adam! May
the Devil not mislead you, as he took your
father and mother out of Paradise, tearing off
their garments to expose their nakedness. He
sees you and your descendants from where you
do n o t see them. We have designated the

devils for allies to those who do not believe."

Al-A'râf, V.26-27

My sister! Respect for the foundations of Islam

and modesty are your shields. Good company
helps to make your life worth living again. A
virtuous friend will help you to do what is good
and remind you of Allâh; she will enjoin you to
do what is good and forbid you to do what is bad.
Together, hand in hand, you'll be the pride of our
community. The Prophet said: "The case of the
good companion and the bad companion is like
that of the musk seller and the blacksmith. As for
the musk seller, either he gives you a little, or
you buy it from him, or at least you leave
having breathed in its good smell. Whereas the
blacksmith will burn your clothes, or you'll leave
having inhaled his disgusting smell." (Al-Bukhari
and Muslim)
Allâh shows you the regrets of bad company in
the following verse: "The day when the unjust will
bite both his hands and say:
"[Alas for me] If only I had followed the

- 94 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

with the messenger! Woe is me! Alas! If only I

hadn't taken "so-and-so" for a friend! He has,
indeed, led me astray from the reminder [the
Qur'an], after it had reached me." Al-Fourqane,
V.27-29

Choose your clothes in accordance with the

eight above-mentioned conditions, and choose a
sober color. Know, my sister, that the road to
Allâh is not always easy and that it involves
difficulties, but Allâh helps all those who devote
themselves to him with sincere worship. When
you decide to put on your hijab, know that Allâh
accepts you and blesses you. Be patient in the
face of scorn, and know that patience is a key to
Paradise...
Dear sister, you who are not yet ready to take
the plunge, know that you are still our sister, and
nothing loosens the bond of brotherhood except
unbelief. We advise you to repent as soon as
possible, because death mows down without
distinction. Always ask yourself these questions:
Why don't I wear the hijab? Am I not afraid of
my Lord? Am I not a Muslim? Ask yourself
- 95 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!
these questions, because

- 96 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

in reality, no one is forbidding you to wear it

except your soul, which is pushing you to sin...
The hijab is a fundamental and obligatory
worship. Do not listen to those who claim, after
fourteen centuries during which all our scholars
have demonstrated its obligation, that the veil is a
mere tradition...
Islam imposed the hijab as a sign of freedom,
respectability, dignity and chastity, not as a call to
subjugate women and degrade their condition.
Know, my sister, that inner peace is a
universal need. There's no one on this earth who
doesn't aspire to inner peace. And it's not a
modern phenomenon; everyone has aspired to it
throughout the ages, regardless of color, creed,
religion, race, nationality, age, sex, wealth or
technological advancement.
People have taken various paths to try to find
inner peace: some have

- 97 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

Some found it in money, drugs, music or

meditation, while others looked for it in their
significant other, in their professional career or
through their children, and so on.
Yet for most people, this quest is perpetual.
Nowadays, we've been led to believe that
technological advancement and modernization
can bring us physical comfort through which
inner peace is possible. But this is utopian, and
the facts prove it.
My sister! Inner peace comes from accepting
Islam in your heart and living your life based on
its principles. To acquire this peace, the hijab for
you is indispensable, the hijab for you is a
priceless treasure...
My sister! If you make an effort to change your
habits, your behavior and your perspective on
what surrounds you, Allâh will bring positive
changes to your life and lead you to success. And
even if the world around you is

- 98 -
WHY DON'T YOU WEAR THE HIJAB?!

restless, petty and cruel, Allâh will give you the

means to live in peace with him and t o
experience true inner peace.

WE HOPE THIS BOOK WILL HELP IMPROVE

YOUR LIFE.
MAY ALLAH PROTECT YOU, MY SISTER, AND
FACILITATE EVERY STEP YOU TAKE TOWARDS
MODESTY AND DIGNITY!
PARADISE IS CLOSE AT HAND FOR THOSE WHO
REALLY WANT IT...
