SELECTION OF MANAGEMENT TRAINEES / DESIGN TRAINEES – 2023

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):


1. I have completed BE in Automobile Engineering which is not specified in the detailed
Advertisement. Am I eligible for the post of Management Trainee (Technical) / Design Trainee
under Mechanical discipline?

Candidates possessing Engineering degree in a Branch other than branches of engineering specified
in the detailed Advertisement are not eligible to apply.

2. I have completed Integrated Degree Engineering course (B.Tech + M.Tech). Am I eligible to apply
for Management Trainee (Technical)?

Yes, Candidate possessing Integrated Degree in the relevant Discipline and Branch of Engineering is
eligible to apply, provided he/ she has secured the minimum prescribed marks in the Integrated Degree.

3. I have completed 3 years Engineering Degree in Mechanical after doing a 3 years Diploma in
Engineering in Mechanical. Am I eligible for the post of Management Trainee (Technical) / Design
Trainee?

Yes, provided you have scored the prescribed Marks in the Engineering Degree and fulfill other
Eligibility criteria.

4. Can Candidates possessing BCA/MCA/B.Sc/M.Sc (Computer Science) degree apply for


Management Trainee (Technical) under Computer Science discipline?

No. Only candidates with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or its equivalent are eligible to
apply.

5. Can I apply for more than one post viz., Management Trainee (Technical) / Design Trainee by
paying the Application Fee separately?

No. You are required to apply either for the post of Management Trainee (Technical) or Design Trainee
which is most suitable for you. Applying for more than One post will lead to rejection of the candidature
and application fee paid, if any, will stand forfeited.

6. What is the difference between Management Trainee (Tech) and Design Trainee Post?

Posts advertised for Design Trainees are for meeting the requirements of the R&D Centres of the
Company. Similarly posts advertised for Management Trainees(Tech) are for meeting the requirements
of various Production/Overhaul/ Service Divisions of the Company. The function and details of the R&D
Centres and Production/ Overhaul/ Service Divisions can be viewed by visiting the HAL Website.

7. I am not sure about recognition of my degree. Can I apply for the post of Management Trainee/
Design Trainee?

Before you apply, please ensure that the requisite qualification is a Regular / Full Time Degree in
Engineering / Technology, acquired from recognized Universities / Institutions under the 10+2+4 system
as per the detailed Advertisement.

8. I have completed my Degree with 7.7 CGPA. I don’t know about the methodology of converting
the CGPA to Percentage. What should I do?

In case of the methodology for converting CGPA to Percentage is not mentioned in your Mark Sheets
of your Qualifying Degree, you may contact your Institution/ University for clarification. Further, it is
mandatory to submit a Certificate to the effect from the Institute/ University at the time of Interview
tentatively scheduled to be held during the month of October 2023.

9. I am working in a Govt./ Quasi Govt. / Semi Government/ Public Sector Undertaking/ Autonomous
Body. Should I forward my application through proper channel or bring NOC from my employer
at the time of interview?

Candidates employed in Government/ Quasi Government /Semi Government/ PSUs should produce `No
Objection Certificate at the time of Interview from their Employer failing which they will not be allowed
to appear for the Interview and will not be eligible for payment of Travelling Allowance.

10. My Father is an HAL employee. Can I apply as Internal candidate?

No. Only present regular Employees on the rolls of HAL can apply as Internal candidates. Persons who
have been engaged on Contract/ Casual / Apprentice Trainees / Tenure Basis in HAL are not eligible to
apply as an Internal Candidate.

11. I am currently in the Final Semester of my Engineering Degree in relevant Discipline/ Branch of
Engineering. Am I eligible to apply?

Yes. Candidates currently in the Final Year/ Semester of their Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/
Technology or its equivalent / Management (2023-24) may also apply, provided candidates have secured
the prescribed Aggregate Percentage of Marks as indicated above, upto the last Semester/ Year of
Examination at the time of applying. Selection of such candidates will be further subject to their obtaining
minimum prescribed aggregate percentage of marks in the Final Degree. Candidates will have to submit
documentary proof of having passed the qualifying examination with minimum prescribed aggregate
percentage of marks at the time of Interview, tentatively scheduled to be held during October 2023.

12. I have secured 70% marks in Final Semester and I belong to UR Category. Can I apply for the
Post of Management Trainee / Design Trainee?

As per the prescribed criteria, UR, EWS & OBC-NCL candidates should have secured a minimum
of 70% Marks, in the aggregate, of all the Semesters/ Years in their Engineering Degree. Merely
securing 70% marks in the Final Year/ Semester will not make one eligible for the post of
Management Trainee / Design Trainee

13. The qualifying cut-off marks in B.E / B.Tech is aggregate 70% marks but I have secured aggregate
69.99% marks. Am I eligible to apply for Management Trainee / Design Trainee under UR/OBC-
NCL/EWS Categories?

No. Since the qualifying cut-off marks is 70% for Management Trainee / Design Trainee candidates
with Marks less than 70% are not eligible to apply under UR/ OBC-NCL / EWS categories. No
rounding off of marks will be accepted.

14. How will the aggregate percentage of marks be calculated in the Qualifying Examination?

The total maximum marks and total marks obtained for all the Semesters / Years will be
summed up to arrive at the aggregate percentage of Marks and no rounding off will be done.
No weightage will be given to any particular Semester or Year.

15. Can the marks (aggregate) be rounded off to the next whole number?

No. The percentage of Marks cannot be rounded off.

16. Will any weightage be assigned to any particular Semester for arriving at the aggregate?

No. The total Marks obtained in respect of all the Semesters/Years will be summed up objectively
for arriving at the aggregate.

17. I am not sure whether I fulfill the criteria for getting reservation benefit under OBC-NCL category.
What should I do?

The name of caste and community of the candidate must appear in the ‘Central list of Other
Backward Classes’

Your OBC-NCL Certificate must mention that you belong to Non-Creamy Layer (NCL).

You need to furnish your recent OBC (NCL) Certificate not older than six months as on 22.8.2023
as per the format prescribed by the Government of India, from the Competent Authority, at the time
of interview during the month of October, 2023.

Candidate belonging to OBC category but coming in the 'creamy layer' are not entitled to OBC
(NCL) reservation and age relaxation. They should indicate their category as 'UR’ in Online
Application Form.

18. Who is entitled for Relaxation/ Concession admissible to Person with Benchmark Disability
(PwBD)?

PwBDs wtih 40% or more disability will get the benefits admissible to PwBD candidates. It is
necessary to have a valid Disability Certificate issued by the Competent Authority. Candidates
whose degree of disability is less than 40% are not entitled for any concessions admissible to
PwBD candidates. The suitability in relation to the Disability, will be decided on the basis of reports
of the Medical Board attached to the Special Employment Exchange for Physically Handicapped.
PwBD Candidates will be required to undergo the pre-employment medical examination at HAL
with regard other Medical Parameters as per the revised Medical Standards of the Company.

19. I have OBC-NCL certificate which was issued during the year 2022. Am I eligible to apply under
OBC-NCL category?

Candidate is eligible to apply. However, he/she needs to ensure to submit an OBC-Non Creamy
Layer (NCL) Certificate as per the format prescribed by the Government of India from the
Competent Authority which is not older than six months as on 22.8.2023, at the time of interview
tentatively scheduled to be held during October 2023.

20. Who is entitled to apply under EWS Category?

Reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) will be in line with extant Government Rules
as notified from time to time.

21. What are the things required while filling up the Online Application Form?

Before filling the application form the candidate must ensure that all the required details like
scanned copy of latest passport size colour photograph (in JPEG format of not more than 180KB
size), Educational Details like Semester-wise Marks are available. The candidate should also
possess a valid email ID which must remain valid for at least next 6 months. Further, Application

Fee Payment / Challan details in respect of UR/ OBC-NCL/ EWS Candidates will be required to be
filled in the Online Application form.

22. I am continuously facing some errors while applying Online which prevents me from completing
the application. What can I do?

The Online Application Form is best viewed in Google Chrome web browser. Request to refrain
from using Mobile Phones for filling the Application.

23. Can I mail or fax a paper copy of the Application Form?

No. Only Online Applications will be accepted. No other form of Applications will be considered.

24. I have entered the inactive/ wrong Email ID or Address /Category and I want to change it. Is it
possible?

Once entered and submitted, no details can be changed. You are required to register again with
another Email ID.

25. How do I know the status of my Application?

After submitting the payment details, the system will generate the “Application Confirmation”
message.

26. What details should be kept as record for future reference?

The print out of the Application Confirmation page generated after entering the Personal &
Educational details in case of SC/ ST/ PwBD/ Internal candidates. In case of UR/ OBC-NCL/ EWS
candidates, the printout of the Application Confirmation page will be generated after filling up the
details of payment of Application Fee.

27. I have paid the Application Fee in the Bank and submitted the Payment details Online, but did not
take a print out of the Application Number. What should I do?

At any point of time, you can view the Application Confirmation page by entering your E- Mail ID &
Date of Birth, in the link given for registration of Management Trainees/Design Trainees.

28. After submitting the application Online, can it be viewed again?

No. It cannot be viewed.

29. Can I get the syllabus for the Online Selection Test for the post of Management Trainee / Design
Trainee?

The Online Selection Test will be in three parts & comprising of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
Part – I will consist of 20 MCQs on General Awareness. Part – II will consist of 40 MCQs on English
& Reasoning. Part – III will consist of 100 MCQs on the concerned discipline. The syllabus for the
concerned Disciplines for selection to the Posts of Management Trainee (Technical) & Design
Trainee would be in line with the syllabus prescribed for GATE-2023 Examinations in the respective
Disciplines / Branches of Engineering.

30. I have qualified the MT/ DT Online Selection Test-2023. However, I have not been shortlisted for
interview?

The candidates will be shortlisted for interview on the basis of Online Selection Test marks in order
of merit in the ratio of 1: 5 to the number of vacancies in each discipline and category. The same
applies for those candidates finally selected after interview against the posts notified.

31. What is the cut-off mark for interview?

There is no separate cut-off mark in interview for a candidate to get selected for a post notified.
However, candidate must score the minimum qualifying marks in both the online selection test
and interview as is indicated in the detailed notification.

32. What is the date of Written Test?

The Online Test is tentatively scheduled to be held on 09.09.2023, 10.09.2023 and 11.09.2023. Exact
slot and date of Online test will be mentioned in the Admit Card issued to candidates shortlisted
for the Online Test.

33. When will the Admit Card be sent to me?

The Admit Card needs to be downloaded from HAL website as per the Schedule. Admit card will
not be sent to the candidate by Post/ any other mode.

34. Can I change my preference of language opted for the Online Test?

No. The preference once opted cannot be changed. t of Application Fee:


35. Can I make payment by a Cheque / Demand Draft / Pay Order in lieu of Online Payment?

Other than the prescribed method of payment, no other mode of payment is acceptable.

36. Will HAL refund the Application Fee in case my candidature is rejected due to any reason?

Application Fee is non-refundable. You are requested to ensure your eligibility prior to applying.
HAL is not responsible for multiple payments or any type of payment failure.

37. What is the Amount of Application Fees to be paid?

As indicated in the Detailed Advertisement the Application Fees to be paid by the UR/OBC-NCL
and EWS Category Candidates is Rs.500/- (inclusive of GST) (excluding Banking Service charges).

38. What is the last date for paying the Application Fee?

The last date for paying the Application Fee is before 1700 hrs. on 22.08.2023.

39. How would I come to know if there are any changes in the schedule of Selection process?

Any changes and updates with respect to the Selection process schedule will be hosted on the
HAL website (www.hal-india.co.in) under the ‘Careers’ Section. Candidates are advised to visit the
HAL Website on a regular basis. The entire selection process (including qualifying marks in every
stage) will be governed by the extant Recruitment Rules of the Company, uploaded in the HAL
Website.

41. Will HAL publish its Advertisements / Notification in any of the Social Platforms or other Websites
or hire through Consultants?

Recruitment in HAL is carried out through well-established selection processes comprising of


Online Test, Interview, Medical examination, etc. Any recruitment/ selection related information
such as advertisement, eligibility criteria, registration process, contact Email ID, updates, etc. with
respect to this Selection will be hosted only on the HAL Website, www.hal-india.co.in (Careers
Section). Therefore, Candidates are requested not to rely upon any advertisement/ job openings
/announcements posted on any other website, social media platforms or circulated through emails
or messages.

42. I am an Ex-Serviceman. However, I have rendered less than 5 years of Military service. I have gone
through the notification and I am eligible to apply for the post/s notified without any age
relaxation. Since Ex-Servicemen get relaxation in terms of upper age limit only, how do I fill my
application?

As per the notification, Ex-Servicemen/ Commissioned Officers/ Emergency Commissioned


Officers/ Short Service Commissioned Officers who have rendered at least five years Military
Service and who fulfill other conditions as prescribed by the Government of India, will be eligible
to claim age relaxation upto a maximum of 5 years.

However, Ex-Servicemen candidates who are within the prescribed upper age limit for respective
Categories viz. UR/ EWS/ OBC NCL/ SC/ ST, need not claim the same in the application form
against the Ex-Servicemen/ Commissioned Officers/ Emergency Commissioned Officers/ Short
Service Commissioned Officers. Such candidates will be treated at par with candidates other than
Ex-Servicemen in the respective categories. The experience can/ may still be indicated in the
provision made to mention “Work Experience Details” in the online application.

Also, the age relaxation for PwBD category will also continue to be applicable over and above the
relaxation admissible for such candidates.
