COM20BE S2 Term Paper Assignment

The document provides instructions for a term paper assignment in Construction Management due on November 5th. Students must write a 3000-4000 word research paper in groups of 5 on either how wearable technology can reduce worker fatigue on construction sites, or how it can continuously improve construction productivity. The paper must follow a specific structure and address topics like an overview of wearable tech, types suitable for the chosen topic, discussing findings and gaps in research. Health and safety have long been issues in construction, but wearable tech offers hope through sensors that can monitor workers in real-time.

ASSINGMENT INFORMATION
Health and safety have been a challenge and a subject of concern in construction for
a long period. A surge in Wearable Technology (WT) has brought hope as these
technologies are equipped with sensors that can detect latent health issues such as
fatigue. The technologies further enable real-time monitoring of construction workers’
health and safety. In groups of 5, you are required to write a 3000 - 4000 words
research term paper on one of the following topics by using the respective structures
below to respond to the topic of your preferred research project.

Topic 1: “The adoption of wearable technology to reduce fatigue of

construction workers on site”.
i. Overview of wearable technology?
ii. Types of wearable technology suitable for fatigue risk reduction?
iii. What is fatigue in construction context?
iv. How can fatigue be reduced using wearable technology?
v. Discuss the findings of your research.
vi. What are some of the gaps that were discovered in your research and how
can future studies address them?

Topic 2: “The adoption of wearable technology for continuous improvement in

construction productivity”.
i. Overview of wearable technology?
ii. Types of wearable technology that can be used to improve production?
iii. What is productivity in construction context?
