Note:
Instructions: i) Students with even roll numbers should attempt questions at even serial
numbers only, students with odd roll numbers should attempt questions at Odd serial
numbers.
ii) Abbreviations have their usual meanings.
iii) Make suitable assumptions whenever necessary.

Q1. Determine the unit sample response h[n] of a linear phase FIR filter of length M = 5 with
𝜋 𝜋
symmetric unit sample response for which 𝐻𝑟 (0) = 1, 𝐻𝑟 (4 ) = 0.2 𝐻𝑟 ( 2 ) = 0.4.
Determine the phase characteristics of the filter. 4 Marks CO4

Q2. Determine the unit sample response h[n] of a linear phase FIR filter of length M = 5 with

Q3. A IIR digital lowpass filter is to be designed with the following parameters. Passband
ripple ≤ 0.8 𝑑𝐵, Passband edge: 2 KHz, Stopband attenuation: ≥ 35 𝑑𝐵, Stopband edge: 4
KHz and Sample rate: 16 KHz. Determine the order of Butterworth and Chebyshev analog
designs must be used to meet the abovementioned specifications in the digital
implementation. The filter to be designed by performing a bilinear transformation on an
analog system function. 6 Marks CO4

Q4. A IIR digital lowpass filter is to be designed with the following parameters. Passband
ripple ≤ 0.7 𝑑𝐵, Passband edge: 3 KHz, Stopband attenuation: ≥ 37 𝑑𝐵, Stopband edge: 4
KHz and Sample rate: 24 KHz. Determine the order of Butterworth and Chebyshev analog
designs must be used to meet the abovementioned specifications in the digital
implementation. The filter to be designed by performing a bilinear transformation on an
analog system function. 6 Marks CO4

Q5. Use window method with a Blackman window to design a 9 tap FIR filter with
antisymmetric unit sample response and following desired frequency response

Q7a. For the following speech signal segment x[n] = {-2, -1, 0.5, 0.7, 1.5, 3}, find out the
Yule Walker matrix equation for a 4th order AR filter.

Q7b. If you are told to use an AR filter of order 2 for Q7a, solve the Yule Walker Euqations
to find out the values of the filter coefficients. 6 Marks CO5
