like to extend a warm greeting to each and every one of you. Please allow me to take this opportunity to
go over a few basic safety measures with you. First I asked you to please fasten your seatbelt and remain
seated until we reach our destination. Second Don’t leave your valuable things unattended. Third always
stay within the group and lastly never forget our bus number, which is number 7. we must keep in mind
that safety is first and everything must be timely. I have 2 things with me. First, I have a whistle, if you
here me blowing this whistle twice and waving this flag means you should stop and lets head back to the
bus and we are going to our next destination.
But before that, let’s have a head count 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 29 and 30. PERFECT! We are all complete.
While we are waiting to our first destination let me tell yous some details about Batanes
Batanes is an archipelagic province in the Philippines, administratively part of the Cagayan Valley region.
It is the northernmost province in the country, and also the smallest, both in population and land area.
The capital is Basco, located on the island of Batan. Did you guys know that There’s almost zero crime rate
in the province?? That is why Batanes is known to be one of the most peaceful provinces in the
Philippines. Another fun fact is batanes island is closer to taiwan than to northern trip of luzon. Distance
of Taiwan from the northernmost islet of Batanes is 218 kilometers while Manila to Batanes is 500
kilometers.
Covering today’s tour, we’ll be roaming around the south of Batan Island.
So WELCOME to our first destination which is the Chawa View Deck it is one of South Batan Island's top
parts in Batanes. The view deck was designed overlooking the West Philippine Sea on a mountainside
between the towns of Basco and Mahatao.
Chawa View deck is just near Basco. The Chawa View Deck has rolling green hills, rock formations and a
panorama of the seascape. The Virgin Mary's Grotto and some cement seats are also open for tourists on
the top of the deck.
The steep stairs that lead to the rocky shore facing the ocean are another main feature of this attraction.
The second tourist destination is the Mahatao Boat Shelter Port, Batanes Inaugurated in 2007, the shelter
port was built to protect Batan Island’s boats from the area’s mercurial weather. At first glance, Mahatao
Boat Shelter Port resembles a grand canal with waters connecting to the West Philippine Sea. It draws the
eye with vessels anchored along the cove, shielded by a huge mountain rock.

San Carlos Borromeo Church. The first church of Mahatao was a small chapel built in 1787.
However, in 1872 a very strong typhoon destroyed this first stone church. That’s why on the same site, in
1873, this church was re-built again. Because of its beauty and excellent state of preservation, this church
is now a National Cultural Heritage Treasure conferred by the National Commission for Culture and Arts
on July 31, 2001. Let me tell you an intresting fact On the grounds of the church, there is also an Old
Spanish Lighthouse.The Batanes Blank Book Archive in the local language is also kept there. It is a
collection of books with blank pages where people can write notes or even make up their own stories.
