5. Scaffolding (building on strengths):

Use semantic maps to help students understand new vocabulary.

Incorporate realia and images to make vocabulary more tangible.

Employ gestures and body actions to facilitate comprehension.

Utilize cognates and similarities between L1 and the target language.

Encourage group work and peer support.

6. Review: Briefly review the greetings and basic introductions covered in the previous lesson

to provide context for today's lesson.

7. Vocabulary:
Greetings: Hello, Hi, Good morning, Good afternoon, Good evening

Common questions: How are you? What's your name?

Basic answers: I'm fine, My name is...

8. Teach the Material: Introduce the new vocabulary through visual aids, gestures, and simple

sentences. Engage the students in pronunciation and comprehension exercises. Explain the use

of greetings and basic questions in everyday conversations.

9. Guided Practice: Conduct drills where students practice greetings and asking simple

questions. Provide sentence frames to support students in forming responses. This guided

practice should involve both teacher-led and peer-led activities.

10. Independent Practice: Organize role-playing exercises where students engage in

conversations using the new vocabulary. For example, pair students up and have them take

turns greeting each other and asking questions. Encourage them to use gestures and facial

expressions to enhance communication.

11. Differentiated Instruction Options:

For students with lower language abilities, provide additional visual aids and simplified

sentence frames.

For advanced students, introduce more complex questions and encourage them to use the new

vocabulary creatively.

Consider various learning styles by incorporating visual aids, auditory exercises, and

kinesthetic activities.
12. Formative Assessment: Observe students during guided and independent practice to assess

their ability to use the new vocabulary and sentence structures in context. Take note of

individual strengths and areas that may require further support.

13. Summative Assessment: For the summative assessment, students will participate in a role-

play activity where they will greet and introduce themselves to a partner, engage in a brief

conversation, and respond to basic questions. Their performance in this assessment will

demonstrate their ability to meet the lesson objective.

14. Closure: Conclude the lesson by reviewing the key vocabulary and phrases learned. Ask

students to share one thing they found interesting or challenging about today's lesson.

The Natural Approach emphasizes the gradual acquisition of language through immersion and

meaningful communication. By incorporating scaffolding, realia, and interactive activities,

this lesson aims to engage students in the target language and build their proficiency at the

Novice-Mid level.
