a. What is the angle through which the incident ray deviates and emerges out of the prism?
b. Name the instrument where this action of prism is put into use.

ii. A ray of light PQ is incident normally on the hypotenuse of an isosceles right-angled prism ABC as
shown in the adjacent diagram. Copy the diagram and complete the path of the ray PQ till it emerges
from the prism. [3]
iii. Draw the diagram given below and clearly show the path taken by the emergent ray. [4]

i. A lens of focal length 20 cm forms an inverted image at a distance 60 cm from the lens.
a. Identify the lens.
b. Calculate the magnification of the image. [3]
ii. (a) How does the angle of deviation formed by a prism change with the increase in the angle of
incident?
(b) Draw a graph showing the variation in the angle of deviation with the angle of incidence at a prism
surface. [3]
iii. An object AB is placed between O and F 1, on the principal axis of converging lens as shown in the
diagram. Copy the diagram and by using two standard rays starting from point A, obtain an image of
the object AB. [4]

iii. A body of mass 10 kg is kept at a height of 5 m. It is allowed to fall and reach the ground.
a. What is the total mechanical energy possessed by the body at the height of 2 m assuming it is
a frictionless medium?
b. What is the kinetic energy possessed by the body just before hitting the ground? Take g = 10
ms-2. [4]

i. Zaheen fires a gun towards a hill and hears its echo after 5 seconds. He then moves 320 m towards
the hill and fires his gun again. This time he hears the echo after 3 seconds. Calculate the velocity
of sound. [3]

i. An electric bulb is marked 220 V - 100 W. The bulb is connected to a 220 V supply. [3]
a. Calculate the resistance of the filament.
b. Calculate current flowing through the filament.
c. Is the filament resistance of the glowing bulb greater, smaller or same as compared to its
resistance when it is not glowing?
ii. A radioactive nucleus undergoes a series of decays according to the sequence: [3]
If the mass number and atomic number of X 3, are 132 and 69 respectively, what is the mass number and atomic
number of X?
iii. The following circuit diagram shows three resistors 2 ohm, 4 ohm and R ohm connected to a battery
of emf 2 V and internal resistance 3 ohm. A main current of 0.25 A flows through the circuit.
a. What is the pd across the 4 ohm resistor?
b. Calculate the pd across the internal resistance of the cell.

i. A hot solid of mass 60 g at 100°C is placed in 150 g of water at 20°C. The final steady temperature
recorded is 25°C. Calculate the specific heat capacity of the solid. (Specific heat capacity of water-

ii. A piece of ice at 0°C is heated at a constant rate and its temperature recorded at regular intervals till
steam is formed at 100°C.
a. Draw a temperature-time graph to represent the change in phase.
b. Label the different parts of your graph. [3]
iii. The given figure shows a closed coll connected to a galvanometer G. The galvanometer shows a
deflection to the right when N-pole of the bar magnet is brought closer to the coil AB.
a. Why does the deflection occur in the galvanometer?
b. State the observation when:
1) The coil is moved away from N-pole.
2) Both the coil and magnet are moved to the right with the same speed [4]
