saying my phone number didn’t pass security checks or that my phone validation was
unsuccessful.

Can I use a cell phone to complete the program?


You’ll need a PC for this program. We don’t support mobile phones for the learning experience,
but a mobile phone is required for a one-time authentication during the onboarding process,
and a cell phone or tablet can be used to sign up for the M365 developer plan . Back to top

Can I use a MacBook to complete the program?


The use of a MacBook is permitted, but you will be limited in some of the course modules, as
some downloadable Microsoft products modules (like Power Automate Desktop and Power BI
Desktop) are for Windows only. See Power Up Product Requirements for more details. You can

Please ensure you have checked your SPAM folder for any missed cohort-related
communication. Also, if you have used your work email to sign up for the Power Up Program,

UPDATED October 4: How do I access the Program Schedule and other files
on the program’s OneDrive?
Program documents for the Power Up Program are hosted publicly on the program’s OneDrive.
If you’re having trouble opening these Adobe Acrobat PDFs, copy the links below into a private
browser or one that is not signed in to any Microsoft products. Using a private browser (such as
InPrivate in Edge or Incognito in Chrome) solves many problems! For the best viewing

How do I get support if I have questions about the program, setting up


developer environment accounts, or the program curriculum?
We recommend these support resources, in this order:
1. Watch all the Getting Started videos in the learning management system.
2. Search this document to see if your question is answered as an FAQ.
3. Search for an answer in Power Up Product Requirements.
4. For questions about the Power Up Program or setting up your Microsoft 365 Developer
Account:
a. Email your question (and a screenshot if appropriate) to powerup-
[email protected].
b. Post your question and a screenshot in the Program and Technical Support
discussion board in the LMS.
5. For questions about completing the activities each week in the learning plan, see Which
discussion board should I use to make sure my question gets answered? in Section 2 of this
document. A Power Up Champ (subject matter expert) will respond.

Section 2: Learner account sign in and learning


management system access

How do I access the learner hub and learning management system?


To access the Power Up learner hub and learning management system, sign in to
powerup.microsoft.com with the [email protected] credentials we
provided. Back to top

I can't get into the learning management system. My email and password
don’t work. I've even tried clicking the link from the Power Up Program
email.
You’ll need a PC as described in Power Up Program Minimum Technology Requirements. We
don’t support mobile phones for the learning experience, but a mobile phone is required for
authentication during the onboarding process. See the other sign in FAQs for more details that
may be helpful.
The use of a MacBook is permitted, but you will be limited in some of the course modules, as
some downloadable Microsoft products modules (like Power Automate Desktop and Power BI
Desktop) are only for Windows. See the Power Up Product Requirements for more details.
Make sure you’re using your …@learnwithpowerup.onmicrosoft.com account provided by the
Power Up program to sign in. Also, sometimes being signed in to preexisting accounts and/or
multiple accounts in the browser may cause conflicts. Close all browser windows and sign in with
a private browser. Use one browser for the LMS and another browser for Microsoft products.
Use a third browser for signing in to sites or services not related to the Power Up Program with
your personal accounts.

• The combination of Windows and Safari is not supported
• Firefox is supported only for learner roles, not instructor roles.

I can’t access the curriculum and videos in the LMS


Cohort 003: Watch this video: Introduction to the LMS learning plan. Open this video in an
InPrivate or Incognito browser and sign in to the browser with your
…@learnwithpowerup.onmicrosoft.com account provided by the Power Up Program.
Cohort 002 only: Before you can access the curriculum and videos in the learning management
system, you must first select and enroll in an Instance for each course in the learning plan. For
the Getting Started course and the Week 1-12 courses, select Default instance, and then select
the blue Enroll or Update Enrollment button at the top of the page (see screenshot). Now you
can watch the Getting Started videos. You must complete 100% of the required Getting Started
videos before you can access Week 1 curriculum. For the courses that are live virtual events like
Account Setup Office Hours and Q&A sessions, select the time zone Instance that works best for
you, and then select Update Enrollment at the top of the page. Watch the Enrolling in your LMS
learning plan video for details. Open this video in an InPrivate or Incognito browser and sign in
to the browser with your …@learnwithpowerup.onmicrosoft.com account provided by the
Power Up Program.

Which discussion board should I use to make sure my question gets
answered?
We have boards for program and technical support, announcements, the Microsoft products
covered in the curriculum, and social. In all cases, we recommend that you make a new post
instead of making a comment on an existing post. A Power Up Program support team advisor
will answer your questions in this Cohort x Announcements board and the Program and
Technical Support board. Use this guide for where to post:
• Program and technical support: If you have a question about the program or need
technical support with setting up your Microsoft 365 and Power Apps developer
environments, post here with a screenshot (see the next FAQ for how to upload a
screenshot to a board). Before posting here, we recommend that you check out the
Power Up Product Requirements: a week-by-week guide to help you understand system
requirements with helpful information to manage your accounts, environment, and the
Power Platform products. If you post a question for a Power Up Champ in one of these
boards, a support team advisor may ask you to move your question to the product
boards for the fastest response. You can also email us program and account setup
questions at [email protected].
• Cohort X announcements: The Power Up Program team posts announcements such as
links for the live Q&A sessions here, and other updates

If I forget my LMS password, how do I reset it?


1. Go to the Power Up Program home page.
2. Select Sign in.
3. Enter the learnwithpowerup.microsoft.com email you received from the Power Up
Program.
4. Select Forgot password and follow the prompts.
5. You will receive a link to reset the password in the email account you used to sign up for
the Power Up Program.

How do I post screenshots in the discussion boards?


To help the support team understand your technical or program-related question, please
include a screenshot (or a Word doc with several screenshots) demonstrating the issue when
you post. To take a screenshot when using Windows: open the Start menu and type Snip to get
options to select either the Snipping Tool or Snip & Sketch, take the screenshot, and then save
your screenshot to your device.
To include a screenshot or document in a discussion board post:
1. Select the Upload File icon.
2. Drag and drop your screenshot or Word file from your PC to the box shown below.
3. Compose your post, and then select Post. You may need to refresh your screen to see
your post.

I’m getting an SSO error when I try to sign in to the LMS. What should I do?

I’m getting an “Invalid sign-in attempt” error when I log into the LMS. What
should I do?

This login problem occurs when you are signed into other products or services in a browser.
Close your current browser and follow these instructions:
1. For learning management system (LMS) access, please use a new private browser
window (Edge or Chrome).
2. Clear the cookies and cache before you attempt to sign into the Power Up Program
home page.
3. Make sure to use the “…@learnwithpowerup.onmicrosoft.com” account provided by the
Power Up Program.
For signing into other Microsoft products, use a different browser. Clear your cookies and cache
and use a private browser window. Use a third browser for signing in to sites or services not
related to the Power Up Program with your personal accounts.
Using three different browsers is the best way to avoid sign in issues, because sign ins may
conflict across private browser windows/tabs and cause conflicts.

Section 3: Cohort and Weekly Learning Plan

How do I access the links for virtual live sessions?


You can find links for the Ask Me Anything tool and the Teams meeting for all live sessions in
your cohort’s program schedule:

Why can’t I start my next weekly course?
For Cohort 002 only: You are probably attempting to start a course after the course completion
deadline. You must enroll in each weekly course before you can access the course modules. If
you can’t access the modules, select the General course instance from the Instance menu. Then,
select the blue Enroll or Update Enrollment button at the top right of the learning path screen.
We recommend that you enroll in all required courses as soon as possible. Optional courses do
not have completion dates. Back to top

Some activity modules in Microsoft Learn ask me to use a virtual machine


(VM). Can I use my developer environment instead?
Yes! Use your developer environment instead of a VM. Back to top

How do I save my progress on Microsoft Learn activities?


No technical connection exists between Microsoft Learn activities and the LMS. This is why we
don’t ask you to sign in to Microsoft Learn. Instead, we save your progress by recording when
you select the Mark as complete button in the LMS after completing an activity. Here are the
steps to follow.
1. When you select an activity in the LMS learning plan, notice that the Mark as complete
button is inactive:

2. Select the bright blue Go to Activity URL button, which takes you to Microsoft Learn in a
new browser tab. Work through the steps. When you’re finished, go back to the LMS
browser tab and notice that the Mark as complete button has become active. Notice
that the newly active Mark as complete button is not as bright as the Go to Activity URL
button.

3. Also note that this is a time-sensitive process: if too much time elapses from when you
complete the Microsoft Learn activity and when you return to the LMS tab, the Mark as
complete button will be grayed out again, and you’ll have to return to the activity and
page through it again.
4. Knowledge checks in the Microsoft Learn activities are optional. If you complete the
knowledge check and see the Congratulations screen below, we recommend that you
select the x in the top right corner to close this window and return to the LMS tab when
you complete a module. Don’t sign in to Microsoft Learn or choose any of the other
options.

5. You have probably noticed that green checkmarks show up in the learning plan when
you complete a self-paced module or mark an activity complete. If you’re not seeing
these checkmarks after you mark an activity complete, please email a screenshot that
shows the affected activities to [email protected].

When I try to play videos in the LMS, I get an error. How can I fix it?
This error occurs when the system date and settings are not correctly defined in Windows.
Review How to set your time and time zone - Microsoft Support to fix this error so you can play
videos.

How do I submit my final app challenge video?


From the learning plan view, use the Instance menu to select an instance based on your last
name:

After you enroll in your instance, you will see Submission pending: Upload file:

If you click the blue course name Final App Challenge to go to the course page, you'll see:
After you successfully upload your video, you will see "Submissions Awaiting Approval"
and the name of your file. Follow the instructions in the two Final App Challenge Assessment
modules to create your video, and then click Upload File when you're ready:

After you successfully upload your final app challenge video in the LMS, you will see
Submission Awaiting Approval and your video's filename. This learner chose to name his file
with his name, Frederick (which is a good way to name your file). At some point this will change
to Submission Approved, which means that the Champs are reviewing your video.

What is the final app challenge submission review process?
After you submit your final app challenge video by the due date and time (see your Cohort
Program Schedule for these details), Power Up Champs will review your video.
You may receive an email notification or see in the LMS that your submission is Approved or
Rejected.
Approved status confirms that the submission was successful and is under review.
Rejected status indicates that there may have been an issue due to low quality video or
corrupted video file that prevented the Champ from grading your submission. If this happens,
you will be directed to sign in to Adobe Learning Manager to resubmit your video wi thin 24
hours for consideration.
Approved status does not determine your final app challenge outcome. The final program
graduation outcome will be announced by email approximately two weeks after the submission
deadline. Back to top

I’m not seeing green checkmarks after I complete the Getting Started
course or my course is locked. What do I do?
For Cohort 2 only: If a weekly course is locked, choose an instance (General or Default) from the
Instance menu, and then select the blue Update Enrollment button in the top right corner) to
enroll in the course. Contact [email protected] if you still have trouble.
For Cohort 3 only: If you are not seeing green checkmarks for completed modules in the
learning path view (which shows all the courses), select the blue course title (shown in
screenshot) to go to the course page view. Checkmarks sometimes take a while to display. You
can speed this up by refreshing the course page or signing out of the LMS and signing in again.
Always work the modules from the course page. because that page often has valuable
additional information for the modules that does not display on the learning path view. We have
your completed status in the back end of the LMS regardless of whether you see the green
checkmarks. For the Cohort FAQs and Product Requirements modules, you only need to open
the file for the LMS to consider them complete.

Section 4: Developer environment account setup and
sign in

Which email account should I use to sign up for the M365 Developer
Program?
To sign up for the Microsoft 365 Developer Program, use a personal email address to create
your own onmicrosoft.com account. Use this newly created
[email protected] account to access any Microsoft products you’ll use
throughout the course (SharePoint, OneDrive for Business, Excel, etc.). To return to the M365
Dashboard, use the personal email address you used to sign in to the M365 Developer Program.

To sign up for the Power Apps Developer Plan, use the [email protected]
M365 developer credentials you created when you signed up for the M365 developer program.

Which email account should I use for the Power Up program?


The Technical Support for Account Setup video (also in the Getting Started course) explains the
various email accounts in detail and how to avoid browser account conflicts. To summarize the
recommendations in the video:
• Use separate browsers for your learner account and developer account.
• Use private browser windows to sign in.
• Sign out completely of Power Up program to sign in to personal or work or school
accounts (or use a third browser).

When signing up for the Microsoft 365 Developer Program, I received this
error: “Provisioning is not enabled at this time. Try again in a few days.”
You might receive the error message, “We’re unable to complete this request. Sandbox
provisioning is currently disabled due to a technical issue. Please try again in a few days.” This
means that Microsoft is temporarily throttling the sign-up process as a security measure. You
can take these actions:
1. Close all browser windows and open a new private browser window
2. Clear the browser cookies and cache
3. Restart the sign in process. You can use the same personal email address or try others.
4. Please keep trying until you are successful.
(For common phone validation issues, search for “validation” in this document.)

How do I get OneDrive for Business to connect in Power Apps?


1. Using an InPrivate or Incognito browser, navigate to OneDrive for Business.
2. Select Sign in (in the top right corner of the page) and enter your
[email protected] account you created when signing up for the
Microsoft 365 Developer Plan. Do not use your @learnwithpowerup.onmicrosoft.com
account.
3. Leave OneDrive for Business open in the browser tab and navigate back to
make.powerapps.com.
4. Connect the OneDrive for Business connector.
5. Use the browser version of OneDrive, not the desktop version.

Which environment should I use in my M36 Developer Program and my


Power Apps Developer Program?
Be sure you choose your own developer environment from the top right of the screen while
completing coursework in the M365 Developer Program and the Power Apps Developer
Program. The developer environment will have your name in it, and it will not contain the word
default. You must select your environment again each time you sign in. This screenshot shows a
circled example of a Developer Environment for Tom Moore:

Why do I see FNU LNU instead of my name in my Power Apps developer


environment?
When you sign in to Power Apps and select Environment in the top right corner, you may see
FNU LNU instead of your name. (FNU LNU stands for first name unknown and last name
unknown.) This is a known issue that occurs when the personal Microsoft account that a learner
uses to sign up for the M365 developer environment is a Gmail address and the learner’s name
is not specified in the Microsoft account. You have two options:
1. Update your Microsoft account to include your name (and wait for a few hours for the
update to take effect)
2. Pretend that FNU LNU is your name and choose this environment where your work will
be saved

Can I use an existing work email address to sign in to the Microsoft 365
Developer Program and other products?
You should use the [email protected] account that you created when you
signed up for the Microsoft 365 Developer Program instead of work accounts. Back to top

I received an error when attempting to create new environments as


required in the learning modules. What should I do?
Creating a new environment requires Dataverse capacity to support the new environment. Since
you already have access to a developer environment, you can skip the environment creation
steps in the learning modules. This screenshot shows the note on the Week 1 course page that
explains this. As a best practice, review the course page when you’re working through the
modules in a course, because that page often contains additional information that is not visible
on the learning plan view (where all the courses display).

Power Automate Desktop won't allow me to use the developer


environment and keeps reverting to the default environment. What should I
do?
There are two solutions to this issue:
1. In the top right banner of the Power Automate Desktop app, a diamond icon is followed
by the prompt Go Premium. Select Go Premium and then select Start Trial. You will get
a 90-day trial to Power Automate Desktop Premium, which will allow you to use the
developer environment.
2. Alternatively, create your Power Automate Desktop flows in the default environment. If
you move to Power Automate Cloud App to run flows, you will need to use the default
environment. If you have any licensing or access issues with the cloud application, g o to
powerautomate.microsoft.com and select Start free. Sign up with your developer
[email protected] account and trial licenses will be assigned to your
default environment.

Why isn't Power Automate Desktop working on my device?


As described in Power Up Program Minimum Technology Requirements, Power Automate
Desktop only works on PCs running Windows 10 Pro or Windows 11 Pro. Windows Home, earlier
operating systems, and mobile or cellular devices are not supported. Power Up Product
Requirements provides some options for MacBook users. You can access the LMS with a

Program?
Copilot is a preview feature in the United States and is not yet included in the Power Up

What do I do if I’m blocked on a learning module because my device is not


supported or I run into a technical error?
If you become blocked in a specific module, post your questions on that week’s discussion
board so others can support you. While waiting for a response, you can proceed to the next
topic and explore Microsoft Learn. If you remain blocked, try using a virtual machine (as offered
in most of the Microsoft Learn modules). Note that VMs are temporary environments where
your work may not be saved if you close the browser window or leave the window unattended.

Where can I find out more about the product sign up requirements for each

Each week’s curriculum will teach you new product skills and will require new product sign ups.

I keep having issues when I sign into products. How can I avoid these
issues?
This guidance should smooth your experience and prevent most credential and login issues as
you work through the Power Up Program.
1. For LMS access, use a unique browser (like Edge). Clear your cookies and cache and only
use that browser for LMS.
2. For product logins, use a different browser (like Chrome). Clear your cookies and cache
AND use a private browser window or tab.

3. Using two different browsers is the best way to avoid login issues, because logins may
conflict across private browser windows/tabs.
Always aim to use your developer environment with your name, which already has a database
created. If you are trying to use the default environment, you will run into access issues.
Each time you log into a Power Platform product, check in the top right banner that your
developer environment is selected. We’ve identified one case where using a developer
environment may not work; we’ve documented that in the Power Up Product Requirements
(refer to the Using Power Automate Desktop section). Back to top

Can I access my developer environments after the Power Up program ends?


Yes, you’ll have access as long as you’re actively using the environments! In fact, you’ll have
access to all products in these screenshots that display when you sign up for th e developer

If I forget my development environment password, how do I reset it?


1. Go to the development environment (Microsoft 365 Developer Program or Power Apps
Developer Plan)
2. Enter the email you used to sign up for the environment.
3. Select Forgot password.
4. You will receive a link to reset the password in the email account you used to sign up for
the environment.

How can I find out if I have access to a specific Microsoft product?


Throughout the course you'll need to access multiple products. If you followed the steps in the
M365 developer plan and Power Apps developer plan sign-up video (also in the Getting Started
course), you'll already have access to most of the required products. You can check whether you
have access to any product by going to the home page for the product you need (for instance,
OneDrive for Business) and signing in with your [email protected] developer

UPDATED October 26: Updated When signing up for the Microsoft 365
Developer Program, I got an error saying my phone number didn’t pass
security checks or that my phone validation was unsuccessful.
Here are screenshots of phone-related errors you may encounter, followed by recommended
actions. (For another common error, search for “throttling” in this document.”)

Try these actions:


1. Clear browser cache and cookies.
2. Try entering a different phone number if you have one. A VOIP phone number like Google
Voice will not work—it must be a number from a physical phone. The phone number should
not be associated with any other Microsoft accounts.
3. For security validations, there could be multiple factors causing this issue while signing up
for M365 dev plan. Sometimes if you repeatedly try signing up, Microsoft may block your
phone number temporarily and will unblock it after few days for security reasons.

Unfortunately, we cannot bypass these security validations. You could wait until the
temporary block is lifted and try creating the account after 2-3 days.
4. Try a different browser in private mode.
5. Try a different personal email.
6. If possible, try using a different laptop or computer.
7. Try signing up with your phone or tablet. If you used your phone number to sign up with a
laptop or PC and got an error, you can still try using your phone or tablet to sign up.
8. If these steps don’t work and you can’t try using a different laptop or computer, wait 24
hours and try again.
If you still need help, contact [email protected] and provide a screenshot of

Tip: Use Microsoft Edge “Profiles” feature to set up your accounts to switch seamlessly if you are
not comfortable using InPrivate/Incognito browser mode. Learn how in this blog article. Other
