The VLSI design of an Integrated Circuit depends on the availability of a Process Design
Kit (PDK) for both Analog and Digital flows. We will use the flow and the PDK design
for implementing a mixed signal VLSI design, which will include Digital and Analog
Abstract blocks, as well as IO pads, power distribution, and clock network.
The project will include 3 parts: (1) First, we will use a standard commercial technology
such as Skywater 130nm for designing a full chip with Digital and Analog blocks, and
IO pads, (2) PDK Library Development: the students will learn how to design digital
standard cells such Inverters, NAND, … from schematics, till layout, and make SPICE
extraction for use in delays estimation in both analog and digital designs. They will also
learn how to define layers and Design Rules Check (DRC) rules, and (3) Use the
developed PDK to redesign the ASIC designed in Part (1) of the project.
Employment Opportunities: The students will learn the flow for ASIC layout of Custom
Analog ICs, Basics of Digital flow from design to layout, and the basics of PDK
development. This will make them candidates for jobs as Layout or EDA engineers

We all know that "Water is elixir of life." Although the earth's 71% is
covered by water, only 0.08% of this water is accessible direct to human
being to make use for drinking, domestic purposes, sanitation,
manufacturing, leisure, agriculture etc . For this reason, water management
is essential, especially at houses, to maximize its water and minimize its
wastage. A well designed combination of artificial intelligence (AI)
technologies and the internet of things (IoT) infrastructure can yield an
appropriate solution for smart water management.
Objective: Design, simulation and implementation of an Internet of Things
(IoT) based physical layer module that senses water consumption data, in
addition to an AI module for processing this data.

Mixed Traffic Environment
Connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) are an imperative emerging technology for the future
intelligent transportation systems (ITSs). Early research shows that CAVs can alleviate vehicle collisions,
fatalities, traffic congestion, and energy consumption, and can enhance driving comfort. However,
undeniably, the future deployment of CAVs will be alongside the pre-existing human-driven vehicles
(HDVs) in the legacy road and traffic infrastructure. There are many existing research challenges in CAVs,
including reliable communication in intermittent vehicular networks, accurate vehicle state estimation, safe
longitudinal and lateral movements, efficient vehicle routing, and energy efficiency, to name but a few.
Mixed traffic introduces even more challenges.
Abstract
Recently, machine learning (ML) has been used for classifying and training CAVs in different aspects.
Both supervised and unsupervised ML algorithms are being used in solving different issues in CAVs.
Certainly, there is still a huge research gap and opportunities to develop improved ML-based techniques
to solve many existing challenges in CAVs. Some of the challenges of ML-based techniques for CAVs are
efficient computation, neural architecture, reward functions design, adaptability, generalization, verification
and validation, safety, etc.

Project Title Machine Learning for IoT Applications and Digital Twins
Abstract The Internet of Things (IoT), one of the emergent technologies that has improved the living environment of
human beings, is the source of Big Data generation. In IoT networks, there are many ubiquitous
interconnected sensors from different machines or devices. There is a necessity of having novel tools and
techniques for processing the huge volume of data and transform them to knowledge. In addition, machine
learning techniques have been used comprehensively for a variety of IoT applications. Analysis of IoT
sensor data with machine learning algorithms is key for achieving useful information for prediction,
classification, data association. and data conceptualization.
On the other hand, Digital Twin integrates IoT, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning with Software
Analytics to create digital living.

Remotely Controlled Garbage Identification and Collection Robot
Project Title
Using Wireless Communication Technology
Today, the world is facing a major garbage crisis due to rapid economic growth,
overcrowding, poor urban planning, corrosive corruption, and political dysfunction. This
is mainly due to the rapid increase in population as well as physical resources. The present
tried and tested strategies of trash collection have been proven ineffective. And the world
nowadays is looking at smarter ways to overcome the garbage assortment problem. This
Abstract project uses an Arduino microcontroller to present the Remotely Controlled Garbage
Collector robot for a footpath. The robot is built on a metallic base, which is powered by
a battery of 12V. The robot is designed to collect Garbage from a footpath, public places
(parks, schools, and colleges), mostly cemented paths and beaches. In addition, the robot
will have an embedded camera to identify and classify garbage types to facilitate the
recycling process of the collected garbage.
