are raised for the purpose of meat production. This type of poultry birds producing
meat in short period of time. Today most of commercial broilers reach slaughter weight

reach a slaughter weight of about 1.2 and 1.7 kg in only 4 to 5 weeks.

2.0 2.1 SELECTION OF A GOOD LOCATION FOR PRODUCTION

Due to Broiler chicken behaviors, the selection of a very good location is required for
starting broiler production. There must be a calm, quite, noise and pollution free place
and also free from residential area.
Ensure availability of water, electricity and transportation facilities in your selected
land.

3.0 PRODUCTION AND MANAGEMENT

A good care is needed for successful broiler poultry farming business. It will keep the
birds healthy and hence maximum production. Regular monitoring the healthy of the
birds by vaccinate them timely and keep a good contact with a VET in your area.

Mostly ,To raise (DOC) to Maturity Date/ Marketing Stage , requires the following
costs
DESCRIPTION (PER 1 CHICK) UNIT PRICE (TZS)
Day Old Chick 1,500/=
Chicken Feeds and Medicines 2,700/=
Management Fees 800/=
TOTAL 5,000/=
The cost of production to raise a (DOC) to maturity date may vary in price.

So, The cost of production to raise a DOC during inflation period, the costs will be
DESCRIPTION (PER 1 CHICK ) UNIT PRICE (TZS)
Day Old Chick 2,000/=
Chicken Feeds and Medicines 3,000/=
Management Fees 800/=
TOTAL 5,800/=

Since The goal our goal in the present business phase is to hold a revolving stock of
100,000 birds per 4 and 7 weeks, The cost of production will be

DESCRIPTION NUMBER OF UNIT PRICE TOTAL

CHICKEN
Day Old Chick 100,000 1,500/= 150,000,000/=
Chicken Feeds and 100,000 2,700/= 270,000,000/=
Medicines
Management Fees 100,000 800 80,000,000/=
TOTAL 5,000/= 500,000,000/=

So, The cost of production to raise a DOC during inflation period, the costs will be
DESCRIPTION NUMBER OF UNIT PRICE TOTAL
CHICKEN
Day Old Chick 100,000 2,000/= 200,000,000/=
Chicken Feeds and 100,000 3,000/= 300,000,000/=
Medicines
Management Fees 100,000 800/= 80,000,000/=
TOTAL 5,800/= 580,000,000/=

4.0 RISK MANAGEMENT

In this project there is only three types of risks which do exists, which are as follows

• Occurrence of loss due to natural calamities or disasters, such as floods,

earthquakes, tsunami, volcanic eruption, chicken outbreak diseases and etc.
If this occurs you will incur the loss of the whole investment. This risk can not
be controlled since its not a humanmade factor, But in our country its very
rarely for this calamities to occur so the possibility of such risk in the project
is just a very small percentage like 1%.
But if your having such fear, there is insurance companies that can insure
such risks, with the premium price TZS 450/= and 499/= per every chicken.
Mostly the premium price is paid per every intake of production. The best
companies that’s provide the broiler poultry insurance are AAR INSURANCE
And JUBILEE INSURANCE COMPANY.

• Occurrence of loss due to Management risks, such as poor broiler houses

infrastructures, poor or little feeding and watering and poor medication, this
may lead to death of chickens. But since it’s a risk that can be controlled,
There must be a proper, skilled, educated, experienced and committed
management team and good infrastructure so as to insure the chickens gets
all the required needs at the right time and proportions.

• Natural death risk, you rear living things and that is broiler chicken, they can
also die due to different reasons, but biologically this type of death its range
from 2% to 6% of the number of chicken that you rear. So in order to insure
this type of risk doesn’t affect your capital. Broiler suppliers they tend to give
extra 10% chickens of the number you want to rear. This extra number of
chicken is given for free without any additional cost.

Example, For 100,000 chicks you will get additional (10%) of 100,000 chicks,
that is 10,000 chickens. Which makes total of 110,000/= chicks that you will
rear monthly.

5.0 MARKETING

Marketing broiler chickens is not a problem, it is a very common and popular meat
throughout the country. Both demand and market price are good. So you will be able
to sell easily in the local market.
Through both traditional and modern ways you can create awareness of your product
to the public and obtain more customers.

Traditionally you can use Different and professional agents to sell the product. In
modern way, You can advertise your products through social networks. So as to meet
a wide range of customers. But also the following is required for storage, delivery
and marketing purposes,
• Refrigerator cars for temporary storage during delivery of frozen
chicken
• Caged car for delivery of live chickens
• Slaughter house
• Freezers or cold room for temporary storage
• Chicken Transportation Plastic cage
• Chicken shops especially to populated and local areas
• Chicken packages
6.0 RETURN ON INVESTMENT (ROI)

In every month you will be getting a 10% to 17% ROI (Return On Investment) of the
amount or capital invested per chicken.
That is can be illustrated as follows,

CAPITAL PER INFLATED MARKET INFLATED

1 CAPITAL PRICE PER 1 MARKET
CHICKEN(TZS) PER 1 CHICK(TZS) PRICE PER 1
CHICK(TZS) CHICK(TZS)
5,000/= 5,800/= 5,500/= 7,000/=

Since The goal our goal in the present business phase is to hold a revolving stock
of 100,000 birds per 4 and 7 weeks, The (ROI) will be

MARKET NET PROFIT NUMBER OF TOTAL

PRICE PER 1 PER 1 CHICKEN(TZS) PROFIT(TZS)
CHICKEN(TZS) CHICKEN(TZS)
5,500/= 500/= 100,000 50,000,000/=

The ROI during inflation period will be,

INFLATED NET PROFIT PER NUMBER OF TOTAL
MARKET PRICE 1 CHICKEN(TZS) CHICKEN(TZS) PROFIT(TZS)
PER 1
CHICKEN(TZS)
7,000/= 1,200/= 100,000 120,000,000/=

7.0 CONCLUSION
Therefore, Poultry demand situation in Tanzania,
Prominent economic reviews on Tanzania’s economy (The World Bank, African
Development Bank, Deloitte and the like) rate Tanzania’s economic condition as being
gradual but stable. While observing that a slowdown in the economic system has
greatly impacted individual liquidity squeeze, business attrition and slow private sector
growth, the reviews generally concur that the economy will continue to enjoy a
prolonged, stable growth.
As an economy grows, disposable incomes increase and eating habits change. Locally,
the changes have witnessed a preference for poultry, following consumers’ awareness
of dangers pertinent in the extended consumption of red meat. These factors are
prevalent not only in Tanzania but also other countries in the sub-region. Despite this
common backdrop in the sub-region, relative political and social stability obtaining in
Tanzania coupled with a ban to import poultry has driven an unprecedented foreign
investment in poultry in the country, thereby making it an important poultry supply
source not only locally but also to some of the other members of the sub-region. This
milieu makes poultry farming in Tanzania a profitable venture to invest in.

It is our mission to provide the market with healthy food choices through supply of
organic poultry products.
