DEFINITION OF ELECTRONIC SPREADSHEET.


An Electronic Spreadsheet (or simply a ‘spreadsheet ’) is an electronic version of
the accountant’s traditional paper spreadsheet, which stores numeric data in
two- dimensional tables that display the results of the calculations performed on
these data. They have been called, with some justification. They are easy to learn.

FEATURES OF ELECTRONIC SPREADSHEET


The features of electronic spreadsheet are as follows:-
Ms Excel is easy to learn and thus, it does not require any specialised
training programme.
Ms Excel basically provides an electronic spreadsheet where all the
calculations can be done automatically through built- in programs.
Spreadsheets are required mainly for tabulation of data. It minimizes
manual work and provides high degree of accuracy in results.
It also provides multiple copies of the spreadsheets.
It presents the information in the form of charts and graphics.
Ms Excel is able to sort the data in ascending or descending order very
easily.
Data can be differentiated using various sheets.
Various functions and formulas can be used to do the easy and difficult
calculations in seconds.
Storing and saving of data.
Entering and editing the data easily.

Advantages of MS Excel
Tables
The table in Excel has many features such as :-

 Tables are easy to create


 Tables are dynamic
 Tables have calculated columns
 Tables are easy to select and refer
 Tables have structured references
 Column headers of the Excel table always stay visible

A Lot of Data
You can store a lot of data in this software. All yearly data can be stored in this
software. You can organize data by using charts and other visualization tools that
are available in this software. You can store millions of rows with your data.

Use Anywhere
You can use this software on android, IOS, Windows and Mac. There is also an
online version of this software that you can use and also collaborate with other
users.

Free Templates
There are many templates available on this software. For Example, you can use
different templates for tables and graphics in it.
DISADVANTAGES OF MS EXCEL
Virus Attack
As you know Excel has macros in it. Due to macros, any person can inject a virus
into the Excel file and your computer will be attacked with the virus also.

High Price
This software has the high price. There are many alternatives to it for example
Open Office is a free tool that you can use for creating spreadsheet files.

Handling Errors
If you apply any wrong formula then your data will become wrong. Also
discovering errors in this software is difficult. As you can store millions of records
in this software so finding errors in it become complex.

COMPONENTS OF MS EXCEL
TITLE BAR
The Title Bar Next to the Quick Access toolbar is the Title bar. On the Title bar, Microsoft Excel displays
the name of the workbook you are currently using. At the top of the Excel window, you should see
"Book 1 - Microsoft Excel" or a similar name.

FORMULA BAR

If the Formula bar is turned on, the cell address of the cell you are in displays in the Name box which is
located on the left side of the Formula bar. Cell entries display on the right side of the Formula bar.

STATUS BAR

The Status bar appears at the very bottom of the Excel window and provides such information as the
sum, average, minimum, and maximum value of selected numbers.

RIBBON

In Microsoft Excel 2007, you use the Ribbon to issue commands. The Ribbon is located near the top of
the Excel window, below the Quick Access toolbar.
