A. Safety Precautions
(1) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
(2) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position:
- on the ground service panel to tell persons not to pressurize the Green and
Yellow hydraulic systems,
- on the panel 40VU, to tell persons not to pressurize the Green and Yellow hy
draulic systems.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
Make sure that the wheel chocks are in position for the wheels that are on the gro
(1) und.
Make sure that the Green and Yellow hydraulic systems are depressurized Ref. AM
(2) M TASK 29-00-00-864-001.
(3) On the panel 110VU, make sure that the PARK BRK control switch is set to OFF.
Make sure that the tool that you installed during the removal of the brake is in pos
(4) ition:
- PROTECTIVE CONE (J47779), or
- PROTECTOR (F46754-1000), or
- CONE-PROTECTIVE (98D32403006200), or
- GUIDE CONE (Q47323-1), or
- PROTECTOR, WHEEL AXLE (98D32403007200).

A. Preparation for Installation
Clean the axle protective sleeve (5) and the studs (11) with Non Aqueous Cleaner-
(1) - Petroleum Based - (Material Ref. 08BBB1).
Do a visual inspection of the axle protective sleeve (5) to make sure that it is in th
(2) e correct condition.
Lightly lubricate the studs (11), bolts (12) and nuts (8) with Grease-Thread Anti-s
(3) eize Graphited and Petrolatum - (Material Ref. 03LBB1).
If you removed the brake unit but you did not send it to the overhaul facility, do th
(4) e steps that follow:

(a) Do a test of the locking function of the nuts (8) and the bolts (12):

1 Tighten the nuts (8) with your hand:

If the shanks of the bolts (12) are flush with the ends of the nu
a ts (8), or come out of the nuts (8):
- Replace the nuts (8) and tighten them with your hand.

(b) If you replaced the nuts (8) in step (a):

Do the test of the locking function of the nuts (8) and the bolts (12) a
1 gain:

If the shanks of the bolts (12) are flush with the ends of the nu
a ts (8), or come out of the nuts (8):
- Send the brake unit with all the nuts (8), bolts (12) and
washers (7) to the overhaul facility for inspection, refer t
o the manufacturer CMM.

(5) If necessary, install the brake temperature sensor retained at removal of the brake

B. Installation of the Brake
Before you install the brake unit, examine the brake flange bushings to make sure
(1) that they are correctly attached.
Install the brake unit (1) on the wheel axle (6) with the CRANE 100KG (220 LB) a
(2) nd the HOISTING DEVICE (F27220000) or HANDLING TOOL (1324A).
(3) Install the washers (7) and nuts (8) on the bolts (12).
(4) Make sure that the studs (11) are in the correct position in the axle (6).

(5) TORQUE the nuts (8):

Calculate the torque wrench setting for the adaptor you will use, to get a tor
que value to between 20 and 22 m.daN (147.49 and 162.24 lbf.ft) at
the nut Ref. AMM TASK 20-21-11-911-001. Use a ADAPTOR (M46292) or a
ADAPTOR - BRAKE UNIT NUT (98D32403005001) or a SOCKET STANDARD
(a) with an EXTENSION.

TORQUE the nuts (8) to between 20 and 22 m.daN (147.49 and 162.2
(b) 4 lbf.ft).

NOTE: The specified torque value is the torque that you must apply to the
nut and not the torque wrench setting.
(6) Remove the PROTECTIVE CONE (J47779) from the wheel axle.
Make sure that the retaining ring (4) of the axle protective sleeve (5) is in the corr
(7) ect position.

B. Installation of the Brake
Before you install the brake unit, examine the brake flange bushings to make sure

(3) Install the washers (7) and nuts (8) on the bolts (12).

(5) TORQUE the nuts (8):

Calculate the torque wrench setting for the adaptor you will use, to get a tor
que value to between 23.7 and 24.4 m.daN (174.78 and 179.94 lbf.f
t) at the nut Ref. AMM TASK 20-21-11-911-001. Use a ADAPTOR - BRAKE U
NIT NUT (98D32403001000) or a ADAPTOR - BRAKE UNIT NUT (98D324030
(a) 05000) or a SOCKET STANDARD with an EXTENSION.

TORQUE the nuts (8) to between 23.7 and 24.4 m.daN (174.78 and 17
(b) 9.94 lbf.ft).

NOTE: The specified torque value is the torque that you must apply to the
nut and not the torque wrench setting.
(6) Remove the PROTECTIVE CONE (J47779) from the wheel axle.
Make sure that the retaining ring (4) of the axle protective sleeve (5) is in the corr
(7) ect position.

que value to between 22 and 24 m.daN (162.24 and 176.99 lbf.ft) at
the nut Ref. AMM TASK 20-21-11-911-001. Use a ADAPTOR (M46292) or a
ADAPTOR - BRAKE UNIT NUT (98D32403005001) or a SOCKET STANDARD
(a) with an EXTENSION.

TORQUE the nuts (8) to between 22 and 24 m.daN (162.24 and 176.9
(b) 9 lbf.ft).

NOTE: The specified torque value is the torque that you must apply to the
nut and not the torque wrench setting.
Remove the GUIDE CONE (Q47323-1) or the PROTECTOR, WHEEL AXLE (98D3240
(6) 3007200) from the wheel axle.
Make sure that the retaining ring (4) of the axle protective sleeve (5) is in the corr
(7) ect position.

C. Connection of the Hydraulic Quick-Release Couplings
Remove the blanking plugs from the hydraulic quick-release couplings (2) and (1
(1) 4) and from the brake-unit self-sealing couplings (3) and (13).
(2) Connect the hydraulic quick-release couplings as follows:

Make sure that the lockwires installed between the hydraulic quick-release c
(a) ouplings (2) and (14) and their brake hoses are in the correct condition.

(b) If the lockwire(s) is (are) loose or broken:

WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU RE


MOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOC
KWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOS
E LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/
OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
1 Cut, remove and discard the lockwire(s).

Remove the hydraulic quick-release couplings (2) and (14) from their
2 brake hoses.

Do a visual inspection of the hydraulic quick-release couplings (2) and


3 (14) and the mating surfaces of the brake hoses for damage:
- If there is no damage, install the brake hose(s) again on the hy
draulic quick-release coupling(s) (2) and/or (14) and torque th
e hydraulic quick-release coupling(s) (2) and/or (14) Ref. AMM
TASK 32-11-12-960-801.
- If there is damage on the hydraulic quick-release coupling(s)
(2) and/or (14) and/or on the brake hose(s), replace the two p
arts.

During the bleeding procedure of the normal and alternate braking systems, do a l

(3) self-sealing couplings (3) and (13).
If you find leaks on the hydraulic connection(s) and/or on the brake unit(s) (1), go
to Para. 4.F.

mm CRES Nickel Alloy - (Material Ref. 14QFB1).

Cut, remove and discard the lockwire(s) from the brake-unit self-seali

Remove the brake-unit self-sealing coupling(s) (3) and/or (13) from the bra
(d) ke unit(s) (1) Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-27-000-004
Do a visual inspection of these two parts for signs of wear or damage on the
internal mating surfaces.
If there is damage on the brake-unit self-sealing coupling(s) (3) and/
1 or (13) and/or on the brake unit (1), replace the two parts:
- Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-27-000-001 and Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-2
7-400-001,
- Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-27-000-004 and Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-2
7-400-004.

If there is no damage, make sure that the two parts are clean and ins
tall the brake-unit self-sealing coupling(s) (3) and/or (13) again Ref.
2 AMM TASK 32-42-27-400-004.

Install the hydraulic quick-release coupling(s) (2) and/or (14) on the brake-
(e) unit self-sealing coupling(s) (3) and/or (13).
