• Please read the following articles about the use of ICT in language learning before the
pandemic (2018) and during the pandemic (2020, 2021). Please summarize each of
the article (250 words each), and then
• Comments on the situation.

a. Article 1

The Use of ICT 2018

ICT tools are divided into two types, namely non-web learning tools and web-
based learning tools. Non-web learning devices do not use the internet network, while
web-based learning tools require the use of internet networks for non-web-based
learning tools including radio and television, films, language labs and projectors. While
web-based learning tools include youtube, email, blogs, skype, cell phones, and ipods.

In English language learning (ELT) ICT can cover the four language skills,
namely grammar, writing, reading and speaking Modern ways of teaching and learning
process depend on information and communication technology (ICT). So it becomes a
current need to improve the quality of education.

ICT can have a positive impact on English teaching and learning activities for
both teachers and students. For students, students can have good opportunities with the
use of ICT in the learning process where students can access and choose elements that
meet the student's own learning strategies that are not fulfilled in the conventional
method process. For example, the availability of sources such as images, animations,
videos, and audio that can facilitate the student learning process. These media present
and can practice language learning in different ways. Meanwhile, for teachers, the use
of ICT is also very useful and influential in language learning. With the use of ICT in
the teaching and learning process, teachers can easily prepare learning materials that
will be used in the classroom, besides that teachers can also store learning files properly,
teachers can also display materials using non-web learning devices such as projectors
and can even produce new materials using these technologies.
b. Article 2

The Use of ICT 2021

Based on research conducted by Dewi Chirsta Kobis together with Michel


Tomatoala, the researchers stated that the level of knowledge of the implementation of
information and communication technology (ICT) EFL in Kotamobagu, North
Sulawesi was categorized as sufficient or sufficient to operate Microsoft Office such as
Microsoft word, spreadsheet, power point. as well as in the use of e-mail. As for the use
of the internet and social media networks have a good level such as the use of whatsapp,
facebook, Instagram etc. On the other hand, the people of Kotamobagu are very weak
and can even be categorized as not having the ability to conduct teleconferences.

Regarding teachers' attitudes towards the implementation of information and


communication technology (ICT), it was reported that they had a positive attitude
towards the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in the teaching
and learning process of English. In the sense that the teacher gives a positive response
to the entry of something that may still be unfamiliar to do. then it was also reported
that respondents used Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the
students' classrooms for various reasons but mostly used it to teach writing and
listening. Lack of facilities is reported as a major problem that teachers often face
during ICT implementation.

c. Article 3

The Use of ICT 2022

Many students have problems in learning English. Learning facilities can give
a contribution to the learning process, especially in school. Internal and external factors
of learning problems are divided into Internal and External factors. In order to improve
the result of learning, it will be effective if the learning facility is provided. ICT
(Information and communication technology) can be a learning facility.
Many schools use ICT because it is practical, economic and easy to be used. It
makes learning more interesting and easier to be implemented wherever and whenever.
The concept of Industrial revolution 4.0 in education is characterized by the use of ICT
in order to make the learning process continuous without space and time limitation.
Students are expert at some skills like MS Word, MS Power Point, Searching and
Browsing at Internet, Social networking, Email, File attachment, and Computer games
but less skilled or poor on other skills like using digital library, Discussions forums,
and Blogs. Alfarwan (2019) found ICT devices which are accessed and used by students
in learning English. Researcher found that There are 15 ICT applications accessed by
English students at the University of. Bengkulu. The use of ICT application in English
teaching and learning can help students to master the English language skills. However,
it depends on how the lecturer and students use it to create an effective English learning.
First, the data indicate that there are 15 ICT applications accessed by English students
at the University of Bengkulu.

Comments

In 2018 prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of information and


communication technology (ICT) was not yet widely used in the teaching and learning
process. . However, as time goes by, the use of information and communication
technology (ICT) is becoming more and more common, especially after the COVID-19
pandemic, which requires teachers and students, like it or not, to use information and
communication technology (ICT) in the teaching and learning process. Even in 2021,
almost 100% of teaching and learning activities are carried out online (on the network).
