The document discusses speed control of DC motors. There are three main methods of controlling speed: flux control, voltage control, and armature resistance control. The experiment described uses armature resistance control, where a potentiometer is connected in series with the motor armature. By varying the resistance with the potentiometer, the motor speed can be increased or decreased. The results showed that increasing the load resistance decreases motor speed, while decreasing resistance increases speed. Therefore, armature resistance control provides a way to vary DC motor speed.

Title –Speed control of dc motor

Outline –
Direct current is used to power a Dc motor, which converts
the electrical energy it receives into mechanical energy. This
causes the gadget to rotate differently, giving power to run
different apps across separate domains.

One of the most practical aspects of the motor is its ability to

control speed. You may change the torque of the motor by
adjusting its speed.
What is speed control of dc motor ?
Speed control of dc motor is used to influence the rotational
speed of motors

Controlling the motor's speed allows you to change it in

response to the situation and get the desired outcome.
There is various type of speed control of dc motor.
3 Main type of speed control are-

1.Flux control
2.Voltage control
3.Armature resistance control
Circuit diagram
Design procedure –
At first the MOSFET’s gate was connected to
Potentiometers output . Then the Drain was connected to
positive side of voltage source And the source was
connected through positive side of motor . Potentiometers
Vcc was connected to voltage source positive and gnd was
connected through the negative side of voltage source. The
motors negative part was connected to negative of voltage
source .
Methodology –

The flux per pole and the speed of a DC motor are inversely
related. So, speed can be enhanced by reducing flow and
vice versa. A rheostat is connected in series with the field
winding to control the flux.

Adding more resistance in series with the field winding will

increase the speed as it decreases the flux.
Result and Discussion –
By varying load resistance from 0k to 10k . the MOSFET was
used as switch .

By varying resistance we can see motor speed was increased

and decreased .

When resistance load was increased speed was decreased and

while resistance was decreased , motor speed increased
Conclusion
By the project , it is cleared that dc motor speed can be
controlled by resistance .

The armature resistance control method is the most common

method employed to control the speed of DC series motor.

The voltage control method is rarely used because it involves

high cost.
