In terms of academics, students has their own different learning styles that help
them cope up with their studies. According to Erick (2018), there are 4 types of learning
styles: 1.) Visual, 2.) Auditory, 3.) Kinesthetic, and 4.) Reading/Writing. Each students poses
one of these types or more as their preference when it comes to studying. In a research
conducted by Truong (2016) about integration of learning styles to e-learning, it was said
that learning styles are important and by understanding them teachers could improve the
students' learning process. Purnawati, Fauzan and Rasidin (2019) made a mathematics
learning tool with the application of learning styles and ur have been proven that it is
effective, practical and valid. The students' grades increases to 80.24% and it made the
students more academically active. With the help of learning styles integration into different
learning materials and methods, not only students have benefited from this but also the
teachers.
Learning styles has variety of forms. Erick (2018) explained that there are some
students who doesn't poses only one style. Everyone could fall into multiple types and some
aren't even aware of their own preference. She said that by not understanding the diversity
of learning styles, students could lead to poor academic performances. In the other hand,
learning styles affects our daily life as Wyman (2011) said. These preferences would not only
help in academics but also in everything a person do. If you aren't aware of your style, then
you'll most likely to have a hard time to cope up with everyday challenges. If you know your
style, by understanding them you could use this to your advantage to learn best.
This study aims to know the different learning styles of the students and their ways
of establishing techniques to deal with academic challenges.
This research focuses in learning styles of the students in Luis Y. Ferrer Jr. Senior
High School. We used open ended surveys to know their different learning strategies and
how did that affect their academic performances. This research was conducted during the
second semester of S.Y. 2019-2020.
This study would rebound to the betterment of education considering the different
styles of learning students do. Thus, schools that would apply this recommended teaching
strategies based on the students' learning preferences would be able to produce more
academically inclined students.
