Types of Test

According to Purpose
Educational
● Content of the test should be education-related
● Measures the gains of learning in the teaching and learning process

Psychological
● Not to measure what was taught/learned in school/subject matter, but the overall mental
social and psychological condition of the student
○ Personality Test - Emotional and social adjustments
○ Intelligence Test - Measures mental ability
○ Aptitude Test - Potential for success
○ Sociometric Test - Likes and dislikes
○ Career Test - Occupational

According to Interpretation
Norm- Students vs other students
Criterion - Students are being defined based on a predefined standard

According to Scope
Survey - Broad scope/coverage
Mastery - Narrow scope, focusing only on specific objectives

According to Difficulty
Power
● Increasing difficulty - Easy, average, and difficult items

Speed
● Balanced difficulty, but the difference is the presence of time pressure.
● Measures the rate and accuracy in which items are accomplished
● E.g. typing test

According to Administration
Individual - One at a time administration of a test
Group - Students can take the items all at once at the same time

According to Administration
Verbal - Words are answers
Non-verbal - Using symbols other than words (e.g. abstract reasoning)

Standardised Test
● Members of the board are the test constructors
● Made by a group of experts
● Uniform administration and scoring
Informal
● Teacher-made test
● More tailored and inclined with the needs of the students

Objective
● Singe definite answer, not based on personal bias of the rater
Subjective
● Several answers possible
● Influenced by the bias/perception of the rater (performance tests, essays)
● Should have a scoring rubric for reliability

According to Format
Selective
● Multiple choice-type test
● Prone to guessing
Supply
● Identification exam
● No choices
