Geomative Studio User Manual Guide
WARNING!
The GEOMATIVE GD delivers high voltages and currents.
Always consider all cables and electrodes connected directly orindirectly to the GD to
carry current.
Stay away from cables and electrodes while the system isoperating. Wear electrically
insulating boots and gloves duringfieldwork. Disconnect cables from GD mainframe
/Electrode before connecting / disconnecting electrodes to / from cables.
To avoid accident the operator must always keep all parts of theDevice including
instrument, electrodes, multi-electrode cables etc. under control for unauthorized
personsandstray animals while the system is operating!
The internal 16.8V lithium batteryof GD mainframe needs to be chargedevery three
month.

2)After running for some time, it will pop up the installation note automatically:
When this note appears, the user needs to attend the current operating system, if the system is
Xp, directly click "Yes" to enter the next page.
If operating system is Win7 or higher, double check the run of the installation process, is not
through clicking the right mouse button and selected "run as administrator" to start the installation
process or not, if yes, then click directly "Yes" to the next page. If no, click "No" to exit the
installation. Then right click on Geomative_setup.exe, in the pop-up options, selecting "run as
administrator".See digram as below:
3) When you select "Yes" in the pop-up Geomative installnote, the next page will pop up
and the interface will look like this:
4)Clicking the "Next" button will continue to the next page, See digram as below:
As for install path, the default path for the installer is "C: \ Program Files \ Geomative_steup
\", and the user can click "Change" to change the path.
5)After the path is setted, click the "Next" button to enter the next page. The interface is as
follows:
If there is no doubts for whole process, click "Install". If need to modify the path, click
"Back".
6)Click "Install", the system will automatically install, this process takes a few minutes,
please be patient.
7)Run for a while, will pop up the following dialog box, then start to install the GD driver
8)Click the OK button, the driver will start the installation.
At this point for different operating systems, the installation of the underlying driver will
have a different installation interface:
For the XP system, the interface that pops up when the installation is driven is shown below
For Win7 or higher operating system, install the driver interface as follows
1.3 Post-Installation Check
Check the driver is successfully installed or not
When Geomativecan not connect successfully, " win + R " run devmgmt.msc view Device
Manager or right click on "My Computer" Select "Manage" see "Device Manager" whether
there is a virtual serial port device or not. See as picture.
There are following three device identification that drive the installation is normal, should
plug usb or restart GD to trial whether restore the normal connection or not.

Note: In the installation of the bottom software driver, due to the different operating systems
and a variety of different environments may make the installation of the drive abnormally.Such as
installationfailed or GD can not be correctly identified by the computer, finding questions and
solutions as Section 8.1, "Geomative studio Installation Exception Handling".
02 Mainframe Mangement
Note: the mainframe has been configured according to user needs the corresponding
parameters, it not be modified if the user has no special requirements.
2.1 Mainframe Synchronization
The GD mainframe can be connected with computer By USB cable
Open the GD mainframe and Geomative Studio software, the following dialog box pops up,
select "OK";
Wait seconds,after the software to read the mainframe information, the synchronization will
be successed.
2.2Paremeter Modification
After the GD synchronized, the user can set the parameters of the device, select the device,
right-click, pop-up menu, or click "Manage - Device - Operation".
Select "modify parameters", pop-up device parametersmodified the page, according to the
user needsto select the device parameters.

After entering the related device parameters, click "Save", the following pop-up window "set
parameters successful!" Promptly, then the lower machine GD mainframe parameters modified
successfully.
2.3 IP Windows Modification
Apparent polarizability M0 ~ M6: a typical measured waveform of the following parameters,
where the polarization rate M1 ~M7 sampling time and sampling width can refer to the following
table. From the chart, M1 ~ M7 sampling time and width Fixed,has no relationship with power
supply time. With the power supply time reduced, can not measure the parameters.For example,
when poweredtime is 2S, only M1 ~ M5 can be measured, and M6 and M7 are setted as zero.

When modifying the window, open Geomative Studio, select "equipment - operation -
modify the window" into the device management main interface.
Or select the online device serial number, right click, pop-up menu, select "modify the
window";
In the pop-up window "start" and "width" fill in the appropriate value, then click "Add" to
add, set up, click "Finish" to save. After the operation is successful, the GD window will change
and apply to all test tasks.
03 Create Test Project and Script
3.1 Create Project
After the GD mainframehas successfully connected to the Geomative connection, select
"Project - Main View" to enter the project main interface.
selecting "Project - Operation - Create Project" to enter the project main interface.
The "Project parameters" setting window pops up and the project parameters are mannual
edited into the "Project parameters" window.

After the engineering parameters are set, click "OK" to complete the new project established,
the new project will appear in the file list
Note: The project name is required, the other parameters for the optional, it will contribute to
project management once improve the engineering parameters set as far as possible.
3.2 Download Project Documents
Download the project is to create a good project in the software, import GD mainframe.
Select "function - sync", switch to the "task management" interface, select "new project",
pop-up Geomative in the list of works;
The window input process, entering the script parameters, different devices have different
parameters.
For instance:
1)4PVES Device
When creating a 4PVES device, select "4PVES" choose from under the header file menu.

After each input of the value of a and b, click on the "add", the sounding point data will be
saved to the list of points, when all the test points a, b are edited, then click "Save" save, the script
Create complete. The new script will be displayed in the main interface of the one-dimensional
script.
At the same time, in the new script, the user can modify or delete the sounding
point,Amongthe measurement list, select modifying the measurement points, a, b input need to
modify the value, click on "modify" to finished. If the user needs to delete the sounding point,
select the point to be deleted, click "delete", pop-up delete prompt, click "OK", then the point is
deleted successfully.
In the script main interface, select the script list of the script, then the script properties bar
will display the current script related properties, in the script list, willaslo display the current script
details.
3)3PVES Device
When creating a Dipole Devicedevice, select "3PVES Device " choose from under the header
file menu.
After entering the related parameters, click "Create" to create the script, the script preview
file is displayed with two formats, the left area is displayed in the form of a data list, and the right
area is displayed as a scatter plot.
(1)Parameter Introduction:
①The left area is displayed as a list of data, and each column with the following means
Point number:As for the current test points in the script file serial number, when collecting
in the field, the script file will run in accordance with the order of the order;
A:transmitter A (C1) electrode position
B:transmitterB (C2) electrode position
M:ReceiverM (P1) electrode position
N:ReceiverN (P2) electrode position
K:Pole constant
Number of iterations: the number of iterations of the current measure (the number of
iterations, please refer to the "Number of iterations" in this section)
Number of layers: the horizon of the current survey
Each measurement point in front of a selection box, ticks "√" in the selection box, which
means the measurement point is selected, selecte measurement point with the right click, pop-up
menu;
② The right side of the area to show the script as a scatter plot:
The abscissa indicates the electrode number
The ordinate indicates the layer number
Dot: Each dot represents a measurement point, and the number on the dot indicates the
measurement order of the section. User can scroll the mouse to change the size of the icon to find
aappropraited size for browse.
In the illustration,User can use the mouse to select a measurement point, you can also drag
the selection box to select a region of the measurement points. If the measuring point is selected, it
becomes green, and the corresponding "√" Corresponded to therelated electrode parameter. The
unselected measuring points remain blue-green.Meanwhile,the left side of the corresponding
electrode parameters before the "√" will not be checked.
(2)Measuring points or layers
In the "select the number of layers" option bar to fill in the desired number of layers, click
"OK", the default is all selected.
If the user needs to select some points or individual test, User can select some points in the
scatter pattern area, or choose one by one; you can also play "√" in the selection box before the
left data list.
The selected measuring point, the right side of the dot turned into green, and in the left side
of the display area of the selection box will be "√", while the unselected point is blue, in the left
side of the display area selection box "√" will be canceled.
(3)Set the number of iterations for data collection
In the right side of the scatter plot area, select a measurement point (green), right click with a
pop-up "modify the number of iterations menu" menu; or in the left display area, right click with
the selected point, the same pop-up menu appeared ;
User can select the number of iterations for this number of iterations in this window:
Current point: Indicates the current point, the number of iterations edited only applies to the
current point;
The current layer: the current level, the number of iterations edited for the point where the
layer stay;
The current layer and the following layers: the current layer and all the following layers, the
number of iterations edited for the current layer and below all the layers;
The current layer of layer _: the current layer to a(other) layer, edit the number of iterations
applied to the current layer to a specific layer.
Number of iterations: number of iterations, selectable in the drop-down list, select with a
range of 1 to 255 times.
After setting the number of iterations to set the points or layers, click OK to complete the
iteration setted.
After completed the edit of the script, select "Save" to complete the 2D script; if user do not
want to save the script file, select "Cancel".
The script file will be saved in the 2D script list, which will be used to view the script file
information created in the 2D scripting interface.
The saved script file contains only the points that were previously selected in the script
preview file. Where the order of the points in the script is arranged in the order of the
corresponding points in the script preview file with the ascendingorder.the measurements are
made like this order in real test.
3.5 Create 3D Test Script
Click the "3D ERT" button in the lower left corner of the script interface to switch to the 3D
script management page, select "Manage - Script - Operation - New Script"
If the confirmation is deleted, select "Yes". And a successful operation will pop up when the
deletion succeeds,. If not, select "No".
3.7 Download Script Documents
The script is passed into the GD fromGeomative studio for testing.
In the synchronization window, click the "script" button to switch to the "script management"
page;
In the "Geomative script" list, select the script want to upload, which also support the batch
select the need to upload the script;
Click "Send" and Geomative will start uploading the script one by one to the GD. Each script
file upload success with progress indicates for chek;
If the user needs to delete the script in the device, select the script in the interface, then click
"delete script" to delete the script.
04 Data Management
4.1 Upload Data
Connect the GD to the computer, enterinto the "Sync" page, click "OK", GD and Geomative
studio synchronization successfully, when in the "mainframe equipment in the project" will
display all the projects in the mainframe, click to select the required project, all the tasks in the
project will be displayed in the right box of the "mainframe device in the task" list, select the need
to download the data file (batch selection is available), click "Add", select the data added to the
bottom of the " Need to be uploaded to the Geomative Studio task column "list. If the user needs
to delete the data in the GD, select the data to be deleted in the "Task in the host device" list and
click "Delete". The data in the GD will be deleted.
Note: Users here can change to other projects, and the corresponding "data" in the project is
added to the "need to upload to Geomative Studio task column".
If all of the data is downloaded to the "need to upload to Geomative Studio task list" list,
click "upload", the data files will be uploaded to Geomative Studio in the corresponding project
directory. And the success of the "need to upload to Geomative Studio task column" column of the
task will automatically disappear. If user add the "need to upload to Geomative Studio task
column" list of data, do not need to upload, select the corresponding data, click "delete", the data
will be removed from the list.

Successfully uploaded data will be saved to the Geomative database and presented in the
project management interface, users can browse and edit in this interface, and will automatically
divided into two tasksafter the task which isthe use of auxiliary device upload
2) Select the data list, choose to delete the bad points according to the electrode, enter
the electrode number you want to delete, then the points defining the electrode
number will be deleted.
4.6 Export Data
Users can export the measured data with three forms,such as DAT, Excel and TXT. In 2D and
3D ERT or IP sounding, the exported DAT format file can be used directly for RES2DINV
software processing,and Excel and TXT Format file can view data related parameters.
Select the data file;select "Project - Operation - Export Data" in the toolbar.
Check the data format, click "OK" button, the data export successfully.
05:Other fuctions
In popup add terrain file menu,select the leading-in data as shown below.
Select the file output path in the popup option box,select the dat file to add terrain file(Only
one choose file at a time),open and join the file.
