CHAPTER 3 Final Print

This chapter discusses the research design and methodology used in the study. It will use a qualitative approach involving non-numerical data collection and analysis to understand respondents' concepts, opinions, and experiences. The study will use grounded theory and narrative research to collect evidence. It focuses on determining the effectiveness of distance learning on the academic performance of Grade 12 students at Amparo High School. A non-probability sample of 50 Grade 12 students will be used. Open-ended questionnaires distributed via Google Forms will be used to collect data, which will then be analyzed using simple percentages.

CHAPTER 3

Research Design and Methodology

This chapter covers the research design and methodology,

including sampling, population, establishing rigor during and after data

collection, ethical considerations, and data analysis.

Research Design

This study will take up a qualitative approach, that includes

collecting and analyzing non-numerical data to understand the concepts,

opinions, or experiences of the respondents. It can be used to gather

important insights into a problem or generate new ideas for the research

study. This study will require Grounded Theory and Narrative research

for the evidence and data needed. Grounded Theory involves collecting

data on a topic of interest and developing theories. While on the other

hand, narrative research examines how stories are told to understand

how respondents perceive and make sense of their experiences. This

study focused to determine the Effectiveness of Distance Learning in the

Academic Performance of Grade 12 Students of Amparo High School.

Likewise, it aims to describe the effectiveness of Distance Learning on the

respondents using the data or information from the interview and

observation.

Population and Sample of the Study

The researcher used non-probability sampling which is commonly

used in qualitative research. This sample is selected in a non-random

way.

The respondents came from Grade 12 Students of Amparo High

School. The researcher distributed Fifty (50) questionnaires which is

equal Fifty (50) respondents from Grade 12 Students of Amparo High

School to be the respondents of the study entitled “The Effectiveness of

Distance Learning to the Academic Performance of Grade 12 Students of

Amparo High School”.

Research Instrument

This study used open-ended questionnaire which is distributed

through the usage of google forms. This was used to gather data faster

than any other methods, since the students are more literate, they can

easily read and answer the questions. The copies of the questionnaire

have personally distributed to respondents and after answering it is also

retrieved personally by the researcher itself.

Validation of Research Instrument

This study tried to decipher concerns regarding the validity and

reliability of research tools employed in academic studies.

The data collecting tools (research instrument) are made in such a

way that they can measure the desired construct under inquiry reliability

and guarantee that the study results are relevant. The research

instruments that were used were questionnaires using google forms and

which can reach a large number of people relatively easily, it also can

provide legitimate answers and it’s easy to analyze. Using questionnaires

were less-time-consuming than interviews or observation.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researcher made a questionnaire using google form.

The questions of the survey were based on the statement of the problem

of the study then the researchers sent the link to the selected students

from grade 12 of Amparo High School through messenger and collected

the data from the responses of the respondents.

Statistical Treatment

The response from the students describes their

demographic profiles in terms of age, gender, and family income. Also,

the challenges encountered by the respondents is also presented, for

instance the effectiveness of learning resources, learning environment,

time spent on doing activities a day, and active communication between

students and teachers.

The study's data requirements were used to statistically

assess the Senior High School student’s questionnaire responses. With

the use of the study's data collection tools, students were statistically

assessed considered are descriptive statistics such as percent. The

following statistical procedures were used to interpret the data gathered

from the respondents of the study.

1. Simple Percentage

The Demographic Profile variables of the respondents were analyzed

using the simple percentage with the following formula.

P = F / N (100)

Where:

P = Percentage

F = Frequency for each category

N = Total number of respondents

100 = Constant multiplier
