High-speed response during rapid change
of cascade setting signal
1, Outline
The instrumentation introduced here is an example of @ flow control loop in which a flow signal
can stably follow a setting signal at high speed when a cascade setting signal changes rapidly.
2. Flow control loop.
Fig. 1 shows a flow control loop.
In the early stage, the SLPC used as a flow controller had a built-in PID program. In this contro!
loop, flow signal (PV) response obtained when a cascade signal (SV) is rapidly changed in steps
of 25% of full scale, a shown in Fig. 2, required about 30 to 40 eoe. until the flow cignal (PV)
! response stabilized.

Yokogsna Blectic Corporation ‘September 25, 19863. Achievement of high-speed response
In order for SV to follow PV with fast, stable changes, such changes are fed forward to a
manipulated signal (MV) and its programming changed as shown in Fig. 3, (dotted section ).
After the change, PID constants and P09 (FF Gain) parameters are readjusted and the response
shown in Fig. 4 obtained, allowing PV stabilizing times to be reduced to 1/6 of the initial value,
thereby enabling high-speed response.
