Wh Questions

Wh Questions son un grupo de preguntas que se caracterizan


porque en su nombre tienen las letras "wh-" al inicio, excepto
por uno de sus casos. Las Wh Questions son:

 What : qué o cuál


 Why : por qué
 When : cuándo
 Where : dónde
 Who : quién
 Which : cuál
 How : cómo

Si el verbo principal de la pregunta es to be, la estructura de la


pregunta es la siguiente:
Por ejemplo:

 Where is your office?


¿Dónde está tu oficina?
 How are you?
¿Cómo estás?
 When is your birthday?
¿Cuándo es tu cumpleaños?
 Who is your friend?
¿Quién es tu amigo?

En caso que el verbo principal de la oración sea cualquier otro


verbo, debes usar el verbo to do como auxiliar interrogativo. La
estructura debe ser la siguiente:

Por ejemplo:

 What did you do last weekend?


¿Qué hiciste el fin de semana pasado?
 How does she dance so well?
¿Cómo baila tan bien?
Where do you want to lunch?
¿Dónde quieres almorzar?

Las famosas preguntas WH en inglés

Las preguntas WH son los pronombres interrogativos que aportan información


sobre cosas, lugares, tiempo, personas o razones. Aunque en su mayoría
inician con las letras w y h, existe la excepción de how; ahora las veremos una
a una para entenderlas mejor.

What? = ¿Qué? What is that? = ¿Qué es eso?

Who? = ¿Quién? Who is your mother? = ¿Quién es tu madre?

When? = ¿Cuándo? When is your graduation? = ¿Cuándo es tu graduación?

Where? = ¿Dónde? Where is her house? = ¿Dónde es su casa?

Which? = ¿Cuál? Which is your notebook? = ¿Cuál es tu cuaderno?

Why? = ¿Por qué? Why are you awake? = ¿Por qué estás despierto?

Whose? = ¿De quién? Whose jacket is this? = ¿De quién es esta chaqueta?

How? = ¿Cómo? How are you? = ¿Cómo estás?


En este caso también existen otros usos y significados.

 How often? (Frecuencia)


 How long? (Duración)
 How old? (Edad)
 How fast? (Rapidez)
 How many? (Objetos contables)
 How much? (Objetos incontables)

Ahora que sabes cuáles son las preguntas WH, debes entender la estructura
para usar correctamente estos pronombres y expresarte de la mejor manera.

Estructura de una pregunta WH con el verbo to be

WH + verbo to be + sujeto + complemento


Por ejemplo:

 Where are my sunglasses? = ¿En dónde están mis gafas de sol?
