Graduation ceremonies have been held around the globe for numerous decades, and recently, I just had a taste of what it is like to be a part of one. Personally, I believe the meaning of holding graduation ceremonies, is not just to celebrate the accomplishment of the required school degrees, nor is it just for saying goodbye to the departing graduates, rather, it is a tribute to all the memories the students have shared through the past years, the laughs, the tears, and the hugs. Just like a ship on its maiden voyage, the graduation ceremony is also a launching port that sends the graduates embarking on a new course in life. In order to achieve this kind of graduation ceremony, I would plan it with less guest speeches and award ceremonies in mind, and focus on the things that touch peoples hearts most. One way to do this would be to send graduates in to a Hall of memories, where snapshots of their most memorable moments in school would be projected along a hallway. As they walk down to the hallway, it would literally be like travelling through a time machine and watching your memories fly by in reverse motion. In order to congratulate the graduates who are about to make a new leap in life, I would set up an event in which the graduates have to leap across a barrier dividing the entrance gate of the school and the outside world, signaling that they are now free doves and can explore the world in total freedom. Finally, they would have to give each of their classmates, who are waiting outside the school gates a hug, as a means to strengthen their already tight bonds, and to show that their friendship will be eternal. By planning so, it would make for a graduation ceremony of my dreams. 309
