Quarter FOURTH
Time

CONTENT STANDARD: Demonstrates understanding of key concepts of probability.

PERFORMANCE Is able to formulate and solve practical problems involving probability of

STANDARD: simple events

COMPETENCY: The learner finds the probability of a simple event. (M8GE-IVh-1)

INTEGRATION: A. Competency Integrated within the Curriculum:

Counts the number of occurrences of an outcome in an experiment:
(a) table; (b) tree diagram; (c) systematic listing; and (d)
fundamental counting principle.*
B. Competency Integrated Across the Curriculum
Predict phenotypic expressions of traits following simple patterns of
inheritance (S8LT-IVf-18)

I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the students shall be able to:
a. Find the probability of a simple event.

II. TOPIC PROBABILITY OF A SIMPLE EVENT

Instructional Materials:
 Laptop
 Work sheets
 Marker
 Chalk
 Chalkboard
III. Methodology A. Preliminaries
1. Prayer
The teacher calls a student to lead the prayer.
2. Checking of Attendance
The teacher takes note of the absent students.
3. Review
What is probability?
What do you mean by the following terms in probability?
Experiment
Outcome
Event
Sample space
4. Motivation

* The teacher will select five students using the spinning wheel.
* The teacher prepared circumstances which the students will choose
between four choices:

a. Your Aunt is going to have a baby. It is going to be a boy.

b. You will find money on the floor today.
c. You flip a coin. It lands on tails
d. Your nose will grow if you tell a lie.
e. You will see a horse on your way home from school,
5. Presentation of Lesson Objectives
The teacher will present the objectives stated above and will show the
students a short video.
B. Lesson Proper
A. Activity
* The teacher will group the class into three.
* Each group will be given different tasks involving probability of a
simple event.

Group 1- Fruits in Grandma’s Basket

Grandma has basket full of fruits. What is the probability that the first fruit
you pick is
a. An orange
b. Strawberry
c. Apple
d. pear

Group 2 – Candy Jar

You put all the chocolates inside the jar and pick one without looking.
What is the probability that the first chocolate you pick is
a. Caramel
b. Lemon
c. Coffee
d. Hazelnut
e. strawberry
Group 3- Bowling
Todd is a beginning bowler! If he were to knock down only one pin
on his first try, what is the probability that he knocks down
a. an orange pin?
b. A pin with a letter before E?
c. A pin with a letter I
d. A pin with a letter between b and f?
e. A pin with a letter after D

 The students will be given ten minutes to complete their task.

 Each group will choose a representative to report their output to
the class.

B. Analysis
How did you answer your activity?
Do you find it easy or difficult? Why?
What are your strategies in finding the probability of each event?

C. Abstraction
* How do you find the probability of a single event?
* What is the range of probability
* What does it mean of getting 1 in probability?
* How about getting 0?
D. Application
Parent 1: homozygous Round seed
Parent 2: homozygous wrinkled seed
If: Round seed is dominant over wrinkled seed. What is the probability
that the result of the offspring is Round Seed and Wrinkled seed?
Additional questions:
How can you apply probability in real life situations?
What are the things you should do to increase the probability of
succeeding in life?

IV. ASSESSMENT Direction: Solve the probability of the problem.

A bag has 2 red marbles, 5 green marbles, and 3 blue marbles. You will
pick 1 marble. What is the probability of getting:
a. Red marble;
b. Blue marble;
c. Blue and green marble;
d. Not red marble;
e. Orange marble?

V. ASSIGNMENT Have the learners answer this problem involving compound event.
1. On a library shelf, there are three Geometry and five Algebra
books. Books are replaced after someone borrow it. If two books
are taken, what is the probability that the first book is Geometry,
and the second book is Algebra?
